When using flash, you may want to turn off "Preview Exp./WB in Manual Mode". Should be under User Settings>Screen settings. It'll allow you to see your subject regardless of exposure settings almost like viewing through an optical viewfinder. Also, have you considered shooting tethered?? That way you won't have to disturb your setup with removing the sd card and such. Looking forward to seeing what else you produce.

Rich, I knew tethered or bluetooth shooting would solve the problem of having to get the SD card out but thanks for the tip on the preview mode. I kept thinking there must be a way around this. I will look into that immediately! Thanks again.

Forgot to mention, the table I have is 2.4 metres long and has an electronic height adjustment. I tend to put the mannequin nearly at the end of the table. Thanks again in advance for your advice if you have time.❤

Hey great video. I'm looking to get the Fuji X100V for general everyday life, but I'm making an e-commerce store and want to utilise the camera also for shooting products, over and above my iPhone (surely the X100V is better than an iPhone!). I'm an absolute beginner and do not have all your lighting equipment; all your set-up and preparation is amazing dedication to the craft, but I have no idea how to do that nor the assets. Do you have any resources or links to be able to do something similar to what you did for shooting products - but for beginners? Thanks so much in advance!

Thanks for the comment. The x100 is an awesome everyday camera. It is a great camera to learn photography on. It is hard to get at the moment as even used ones are selling for more than they were originally. It is not the ideal product camera but is certainly better than an iPhone. The smaller your product the less I would use the x100. If you're shooting perfume bottles or bigger then you should be fine. All the best as you search one out!

Why did the word " Automatic " flash on white you were talking . . .? Just did seem like it fit . . .

I slipped and said, "manual focus" when I meant to say auto

Hi Todd from Australia. I’ve really enjoyed your video. Could you please advise me of a camera best suited for product photography for Esty and EBay. I sell mostly silk scarves I pose on a 3/4 mannequin on a white table. I would love to capture the iridescence of some of the scarves which I find particularly difficult. I had a Leica Q2 a few years ago which I had to sell unfortunately. I was tossing up whether to save up to the Q3 and I have been drawn to the fuji s100, however you mentioned that its not the best for product photography. I am also wanting a camera for travel if I get the chance. If you could give me your input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for watching! The x100 isn't great for product because of the lens. Typically, you'll want a longer focal length for product photography. Fuji makes several cameras where you can change the lens that would be good. Canon also is a good choice. An R7 or R8 sell for about $1500. For etsy or eBay you don't need huge resolution so I would think you don't need to spend a lot of money. As for the iridescence, I would think some of that will need to be achieved through your lighting. That is a different matter but look into the right kind of lighting to make your product shine.

Hi Todd great video! Just curious what are the set ups you have for product photography? Been looking for something to use but can’t find anything, thanks ahead!

Thanks for the comment! As for my set up, I am thinking that you are asking about lighting? Any studio strobe system will do well for you. Costs can be a big factor as you can spend a little or a whole lot. My system needs to be plugged in so location shooting is not easy with these lights. So, if battery operated is a need for you then you'll have to consider that. A radio trigger is essential. However, those are not too pricey. I am a fan of the Paul C. Buff Einstein lights. Not that they are so much better than others but they are reasonably priced and easy to use. They also have an "action" mode that takes the flash duration to a much faster level which allows for stopping motion better. I have had kids jump and wave their arms and not gotten any blur from these lights. Here is a link, let me know if you meant something else and I can explain more. www.paulcbuff.com/einstein-flash-unit.html

Todd Kuhns thank you for the reply! What about the platform you use for your product photography. Every time I type backdrop they’re all giant ones 😂 thanks again for the response!

@@wehavefamily What I have been using lately is a small plastic fold out table made by Lifetime. It has the ability to raise and lower. You can get them anywhere, Target, Home Depot, etc. Then I just hang white paper or whatever surface I need. www.walmart.com/ip/Lifetime-4-Fold-In-Half-Adjustable-Table-White-Granite/20690050

Do you have the "Rich & Fine” filter (recommended for food and other tabletop photography)? I shot this photo on my Fuji XF10 yesterday using Monochrome [NIR] www.pexels.com/photo/grayscale-photo-of-high-rise-building-5147456/

I do not have the Rich and Fine filter. Where would I find information on that? Nice B&W image, by the way!

@@Todd_Kuhns Hi Todd, that's interesting, the XF10 has more advanced filter options fujifilm-x.com/global/products/cameras/xf10/specifications/ than x100v but less film simulations fujifilm-x.com/global/products/cameras/x100v/specifications/

@@peterfleming6870 Oh, got it, it's in the camera system. I'm not seeing that throughout the menus. I shot the image in the video in raw and any adjustments were in post. Which in this case were minimal. Thanks for the info, I'll do some more looking into this.

Sounds like you need to do some lens shopping to get rid of your G.A.S.
