What is by far the hardest part in learning Blender and becoming an artist? I suppose finding the right guys at the sheer internet wilderness, from whom you can learn something. Like this fine professor Derek Elliot, or should I say pedagogue. You are bookmarked at my top ten forever. Derek, this lesson is perfect for anyone who's already experienced in 3D and is trying to migrate to Blender. Got me from almost zero Blender knowledge to producing a professional level image in just a few hours...This new Blender is nothing short of amazing. It's unbelievable it's free. (Migrating from MODO here, mostly working with Industrial Design and product visualization).

Little tip when adding a camera : blender adds the camera looking in the direction where you are looking in the viewport (kinda like the "image to plane" part). So if you don't wanna struggle setting up the camera by changing all the location and rotation values, just go in front view, add the camera, then just bring it back and up to get in front of your subject. honestly one of the best tutorials. I loved it. I am trying to figure out how to do a champagne top now. The cage is throwing me for a loop. I did think about just tracing the outline of it with the foil on top which would follow your example.

Derek, the seem you're fighting around 21:00 seems to exist in many actual bottles. I think the glass below that point there the body is vertical shrinks a little more during cooling down resulting in this artefact. It seems to be particularly visible in green bottles including the non-Derrk-branded one (sorry!) I'm sipping right now. That said, the Derrk brand is selling the ideal bottle of wine so of course there is no place for such imperfections of the real world :)

I was having some difficulty having the label fit nicely with this so I added a shrink wrap modifier to the label, 0.01m offset and snap mode to outside surface. Worked really well with this.

Great course, so professional. Thank you for making it free and by the way you do have teacher skills, which is very hard to get and even harder to find in the Blender world, in my experience. I had the closest thing to having fun in the program ever since I started trying to learn it again. You explain the steps clearly, which is really important for Blender as a lot of things can go wrong for newbies and it's nice if someone says out loud what they're doing. The whole thing except for final rendering and video compositing took me 10 and a half hours in the span of 4 days I think. It was so nice to learn a bit about animation and make a cool camera shot. I think part of what made this course so great was I could see a practical outcome of the work; another was that it had a designer approach to the matter, and the objects looked sleek and professional. Great idea to have another designer produce a wine label specifically for the project. The practical side of this tutorial was so apparent for me I was immediately able to import an old wine label for a client and visualize it (although I kind of failed at parenting the new label for an animation) and I could visualize a business card for a client and eventually for the printing service. All these skills I learned for a few days. So cool.

Hi. My method to make label - is using Shrinkwrap modifier: 1) select some polygon loops at the body of the bottle (which will be the body of label) 2) Push Shift+D to duplicate 3) Push P to make them a separate object 4) Select one vertical edge loop of label and make one vertical seam through all the height of label with U--->MARK SEAM to cut the label in the backside of backside of label 5) Unwrap label (Select Object in Edit Mode-->A---->U-->Unwrap) 6) Add Shrinkwrap modifier to Label object and Select our bottle as the Target in checkbox of Shrinkwrap modifier. Voila! Label snaps to our bottle and corresponds it's geometry (because of duplicating geometry of bottle). Play with the settings of Shrinkwrap modifer (Snap mode and Offset) to correct the snapping of our label. Now you only need to add a texture to our label. Greetings from Belarus!
