I have the VKB version of the stick, extension, base, and desk mount. They're incredible. If you're a Tomcat driver, you'll love it.

Good job Tankie. Nice kit, I love using the V.F.X. grip for all my Tomcat needs!! I ordered the curved extension to go with my V.F.X. stick way back in june. Their store site didn't mention it, but after I contacted Virpil to enquire about my order they informed me that they no longer send orders of less than €150 to the UK after Brexit.

I would love to see a Mirage III/F1 grip. The cover that protects the bomb release button flips over the top of the grip and acts as a trigger, which is so cool.

I have 2 VFX grips..100mm extension..200mm extension..and desk mounts...Virpil has improved its VFX and the weapon selector is so much smoother.

I had been using the Thrustmaster Warthog F-16/A10 flight stick and base and the Warthog throttle to fly in DCS and I was really having a hard time with the precise fine control needed to do carrier landings and air to air refueling and even just to have good landings at land-based airports. I just could not maintain constant speed and altitude or a constant descent rate. I’ve mostly been flying the F/A-18 and I kept hearing from everyone how easy it is to fly because of it’s fly-by-wire and FCS, so I was really beginning m to think that it was just me being a shitty pilot. I watched lots of videos on how to set up dead zones and curves in DCS for the Thrustmaster controls, so I don’t think my control settings had anything to do with my issues. So I decided try the Virpil Constellation stick, VPC MongoosT-50CM2 Base, and VPC MongoosT-50CM3 Throttle. Holy cow! It’s like I am flying an entirely different airplane. Flying the F/A-18 on DCS with the Thrustmaster Warthog stick, base, and throttle make me feel like I was flying the Spitfire and comparatively, flying the F/A-18 with the Virpil controls finally feels like I’m flying the easiest and most stable fighter jet that everyone described the F/A-18 to be. It’s literally like night and day. A lot of people rave about Thrustmaster Warthog stick and throttle, now after experiencing the Virpil controls, I think people get fooled by heavy weight, build quality, and appearance of the Warthog controls. Also most people who upgrade to the Warthog are switching from really bad entry level flight control under $100. I was one of those people. I upgraded from crap Logitech controls to the Warthog stick and throttle. I’m not exaggerating. The I mprovement that I experienced when upgrading from the logitech controls to the warthog controls, feels like less than the improvement I’ve experienced when upgrading from the warthog controls to the Virpil controls. Not just the build quality, but my ability to control the aircraft with an incredibly precise and fine level of control. Both the Virpil throttle and the flight stick are an enormous improvement over the Warthog controls.

The heavy weight isn't a trick or gimmick, it's exactly what it should be. I know we gamers like lightweight input devices, but the designs of aviation (to this day) disagree. Even in general aviation, a pilot needs to use a LOT of force to full deflect control surfaces on an airplane. We can easily design aircraft that are controllable with finger tips to achieve full deflection but it is an active choice to not do this. I think you should ponder why. It's perfectly valid to ditch that idea for games/simulations, but there's a reason for it and it's feature. Many of this in the realistic simulation space prefer it as well. If you couldn't land precisely with a TM Warthog, that was you. I'm sorry...that's just you. Carrier landing, air to air refeuling -- all of it is easily controllable with a TM Warthog both throttle and stick and if you can't, you fundamentally don't know what you're doing. Whatever the difference is with Virpil, is a placebo. You feel like "Top Gun" because you want to like it, but plenty of virtual pilots will kick your ass with "TM Warthog" gear - including me. In DCS, you should never be controlling your aircraft like a maniac. If you are, you're doing it wrong. Even in a dog fight it should be smooth and coordinated movement. High resistance around center is desirable because if you're giving any input off center axis, you should know very clearly based on feel. You can't always go by how/where the aircraft is flying because that is influenced by other factors and the most immediate detection for an unwanted input is to know that you're pulling the stick in a direction and "let go." I think for other use cases, you need to learn (and apply) how to trim an aircraft. If you're a space simmer, then the TM Warthog is probably not for you. It's heavy and not meant to be for jerky, exaggerated correctional, and reactionary movements to aim for stuff. In DCS, you don't need to have high reactionary and reflexing skill to hit targets. If you hit it, it's because you set up your ingress/approach, used reliable and accurate sensors, and delivery settings. Tip for deflecting the A-10 stick: use the bend of your wrist back, forward, or to the side to initiate and fine control movement around the center. If you move the stick with your arm muscles primarily trying to the stick from the top, you're doing it wrong. That's why it's not accurate and tiring. Sure, a lighter stick with less resistance will allow you to use this terrible technique more effectively, but bad is bad.

How is the 200mm extension on the WarBRD? Was under the impression it wasn’t recommended for the WarBRD to have large extensions like that, only the small ones.

+GrimReapersAtomic *VIRPIL® Controls does a good job of accommodating the majority simpit with the MongoosT-50CM2® stick gimbal and V-FX™ control grip.* Most manufacturers, unfortunately, do not attempt to replicate the DUNLOP® control column actually used on Gloster (GBR) (first use: Meteor F.II), English Electric (GBR), Hawker Siddeley (GBR), and Grumman (USA) combat aircraft during the Golden Age of Jet Aviation, which has the pitch pivot at the base and the roll pivot a half meter above the base - think airliner roll-pitch column at half scale. The WarBRD™ stick gimbal and Constellation ALPHA-R™ control grip would better approach the RIO joystick.

Are you sure its 3 sets of 4 cams? last I checked there are only 2 cams per set, while the Winwing and warbird base comes with 4 cams
@WhiteHawk77
@WhiteHawk77 2 года назад
Was going to get the CM2 base to use that extension but read there’s a asymmetric force problem with the design which hasn’t been fixed for at least two years, probably because of using only one cam per axis instead of two like the WarBRD. So sticking with the WarBRD base till they sort the design.

Does this base allow for per-axis control of automatic re-centering? I want to use a HOSAS setup with the left stick only automatically re-centering the lateral axis but allowing me to leave the stick in position for fwd/back, so I can use it as a full range throttle. Not sure if I need to get the MongoosT-50CM3 for that or not.

@@Husker5454 the base itself had no trouble with the grips. I used mine with the centreless cams, strongest springs and a 100mm extension (I know its not recommended, so its a use at your own risk deal). I had the base mounted to a wheelstand pro, so I had no problem with it moving about, I can not say how well it would do sitting on a desk, although with the setup I had, i think it would have moved around...
