Although they're often called "silencers," sound suppressors actually REDUCE the sound of the muzzle blast. They don't completely eliminate it, regardless of what you see in Hollywood spy thrillers! Andrew Wright from SureFire joins Caleb to give us an overview of his company's suppressor lineup. The main function of a suppressor is to lower the decibels of a gunshot to a level that won't damage your hearing or at least requires less extensive hearing protection. If you have to discharge a firearm in a confined space, such as during a home-defense emergency or law enforcement / military operation, the sound of that gunshot can do irreparable hearing damage. More and more HUNTERS are also using suppressors, both to protect their hearing and to avoid scaring away all the game in the vicinity when they take a shot.
Most of SureFire's suppressors are made of an alloy called Inconel, which maintains its structural integrity at high temperatures, ensuring a long service life. The cupped-and-vented baffle system reduces back-pressure, which helps gas-operated guns cycle reliability. SureFire's Fast-Attach® mounting system offers easy "click on/off" operation, with minimal to zero shift in point-of-impact (POI). You can remove your SureFire from one gun, put it on another, then swap it back onto the first gun, and the POI will be virtually the same.
A good rule of thumb is that shorter barrels need a longer suppressor, while you can get the same amount of quieting on a longer barrel with a shorter suppressor. On a short barrel, a short suppressor will be louder and generate more flash. It's all about tradeoffs. "There's no free lunch," says Andrew. Fortunately, SureFire offers plenty of choices.....
WARDEN: This is actually not a suppressor but a blast diffuser or mitigator that fits over any SureFire suppressor mount. Unlike a traditional muzzle brake, it directs all the concussion of the muzzle blast FORWARD. The folks on either side of you on the firing line at a public range will appreciate a Warden on your gun.
SOCOM556 RC2: Great for barrels 10.3" and longer, but if you have a barrel 14.5" or longer, you might prefer the shorter SOCOM556 MINI2 suppressor. (The "longer barrel can use a shorter suppressor" rule!) SureFire makes the SOCOM556 SB2 for barrels 9" or shorter. The SB2's bore is a larger to avoid baffle strikes from bullets that haven't fully stabilized when they exit the muzzle.
The SOCOM762 is for both gas-operated and bolt action rifles. It's available in both RC2 and shorter MINI2 configurations. If you need SOCOM762 suppression but the 17 oz. RC2 is a too heavy, the SOCOM762 TI2 made of Titanium tips the scales at a mere 11 oz. The TI2 is great for applications with slow rates of fire, such as hunting rifles.
SOCOM300 SPS: Purpose-built for guns chambered in .300 Blackout, and amazingly quiet when shooting subsonic ammo. If you're shooting steel targets, the "ping!" of the bullet hitting the target will be louder than the rifle going off!
Now, to definitively answer that question, watch our video, "Smith Busters: Is It a 'Silencer' or a 'Suppressor'?"

I trust Surefire suppressors in part due to the quality control, quality materials, and years of suppressor manufacturing experience. I have twice had to return suppressors to Surefire for service (bad seal on one, lock ring problem on the other). In each case Surefire provided warranty service at no cost and even re-cerakoted the cans. Only negative is that they are not as quick on service as other suppressor manufacturers.

After a 265 day wait I was able to pick up my SOCOM RC2 5.56 a couple days ago. I was shopping for a .30 cal suppressor to put on my AR-10/SR25 and was looking at the SureFire 7.62Ti. They market it for bolt guns. I called their customer support to ask if there would be any issues with it on an AR-10 style rifle. They told me that if there was ever any issues with the suppressor and it was used on a AR-10 that SureFire would NOT warranty the suppressor. Very well… my Thunderbeast Arms Magnus should be available to pick up in about 200 days.

Yep! Surefire customer service sucks butt. I asked them what the minimum barrel length for 5.7 was. The guy on the phone LAUGHED AT ME and called me stupid, and said that 5.7 wouldn't fit though a 5.56 mm bore (actual measured bore is like 7.8mm). When I emailed them, they said to go buy a 308 suppressor and that the 5.7 wouldn't fit through the rc2, and the rc2 couldn't handle the pressure of a 5.7 round, and if I ever used 5.7, my warranty was void! I have the Warden, and I do like it. It works well. I also have a suppressor trainer, and it works so much better than the Warden as a linear compensator directing blast downrange. The only downside for me is it is heavier than the Warden. But then again, putting a suppressor will feel the same, I suppose. They're not gonna tell us that, they're afraid of not selling through the rc2s. Considering what happened to Hudson it's not a bad idea.
@enlightenedatheistphotogra3329
Like he said, they won't tell us. Suppressor tech is pretty slow and the market wasn't that big back when AAC was coming up. It's basically a metal tube with some venturi cones welded together, a few design tricks and you have a serious can even nowadays. Now the market is growing and flow through and coaxial designs are maturing, even 3d metal printing magic is starting. I imagine surefire only began seriously developing a new design recently when sig got their contracts and this market boom happened. Despite all the best efforts, throwing your favorite/best suppressor on an AR is a difference that can be indiscernible to the average shooter and is unimportant in combat. Gas to the face however is very noticeable. Despite the 300sps being great in 300blk Surefire main asset is the reliable and durable image. The US military would have been fine with an m4-1000 and we'd be buying a modestly updated can from AAC for $1000. That said the RC2 is still worth it because they nailed the design so well.

Thanks for the interest in our suppressors! For 10" and up, we recommend the RC2. As mentioned in this video at about the 8 minute mark, the SB2 is for barrels 9" and under. As far as standoff from the rail, if you have a 10.5" barrel and a 10" handguard, you will have enough room to mount the RC2 on a SOCOM adapter. Surefire tech support has told me that their rc2 5.56 is not strong enough to handle 5.7, so I really don't care what their stupid rep has to say. They also said that the 5.7 cartridge is too large to fit thorough their 5.56rc2 even though it's exactly the same diameter as a 5.56 bullet.
@kommando5562
@kommando5562 Год назад
