Thankyou for sharing. Two things you may or may not have tried for "spot punching" 1) Protecting the adjacent area with heat shields (just Cardboard wrapped in aluminium foil) will localise the punch more precisely and stop unnecessary surrounding deformation. 2) heating the head of the punch. Same effect.

An excellent education in complete boot fitting, Dude is the man. Re: 3pc vs 2pc. Pidgeon holing either boot as race or park only does a disservice to both, even Dude didn't come down hard. It should be pointed out that the original 3pc Raichle Flexon Comp was one of the most successful World Cup race boots of it's day before being adopted by the nonrace competitors. As the old saying goes...It's no the sword, it's the swordsman.

@LucasCatania17
@LucasCatania17 6 месяцев назад
yah agree! i think dude was just saying more the most common use cases that people utilize the different boots for. its more common that park skiers are gonna use a 3piece boot vs 2piece and more common that a downhill racer is gonna use a 2 piece vs 3piece, but as with everything in skiing - it all comes down to personal preference.

Secondly, base grinding, edge beveling, and waxing are are also topics I am not very familar with. Would be great to see more videos like this one about equipment and the fine tuning of the equipment.

Good job documenting the fit process. I'm not sure if the boots have an option for cuff alignment, but checking upper cuff contact / clearance while standing on the footbed w/o the liner may have been worth checking before canting. Asymmetry of the shin can result in canting that can be solved by cuff alignment.

Great episode. I have significant external tibial rotation (way more than 3 degrees!) and use a combination of shimming, orthotics, and also mounting the bindings externally rotated (so that the ski faces forward when my naturally externally rotated foot is facing out). I suspect this is an unaddressed issue for lots of skiers.
@LucasCatania17
@LucasCatania17 6 месяцев назад
Wow that’s interesting! Thank you for sharing !
@tawp4415
@tawp4415 6 месяцев назад
I have a similar tibial rotation. I was always curious if this would be a solution for me. I only notice it on like narrow traverses and times I need my skis to be close together, my right knee bends inward. Anything else you can share? My worry was it would feel awkward for my foot to be diagnol on the ski and not being able to get the proper edge leverage
@mattkaden3483
@mattkaden3483 6 месяцев назад
It’s an interesting question. I can’t answer scientifically, but My feeling is that any loss of leverage is made up for by the ability to get a higher edge angle (because your internal femoral rotation is no longer limited) and as you note the benefit of being in a natural position when straighlining. Also your uphill ski will track in more of a straight line.

Is there any disadvantage to using a cant between the binding and the ski? This would eliminate modifying the boot. The obvious advantage to canting the boot is it it will work with all of your skis.

I prefer 3 piece boots. I tried to go back last year and just couldn't do it. I dont like the sensation of the tung and spine separating or yhe tung pushing to the side when flexing into the boot. I love the feeling of the cuff bending wirh me. I think Dalbello does it the best. I also really prefer wrap liners

@TheBrignac
@TheBrignac 6 месяцев назад
Depends on the boot, how much work you have done (e.g. custom footbed) and where you have it done. If you get the whole thing, expect to pay around $1,000. That can go up or down a bit depending on the boot.
@LucasCatania17
@LucasCatania17 6 месяцев назад
i'm not saying that the other person is wrong in what they are saying, but the boot fitting process here was significantly cheaper than $1,000. the footbed can be pretty expensive ($100-300) and the boot fitting process was about another $150 here with dude.

Do not put just any boot in an oven. Only boots with non moldable structure in them are meant to be heat molded. Otherwise you will completely ruin the integrity of the boot/shell. If the boot says it’s not heat moldable, do not put it in a boot oven.
@treeflip7
@treeflip7 6 месяцев назад
Also, when he first heat molded the boots, he should have put a pad under the socks in high pressure areas. That would have moved the medial toe area more and made punching unnecessary.
