Many people mock Kung Fu these days, with all the frauds with their no touch-nonsense. But even now a reassurance is happening, Styles such as Choy Lee Fut, Hung Ga, Pak Mei etc.. are beginning to gain notice from many. Choy Lee Fut has a lot of history, the story of Lau Bun is incredibly important. I honestly shed a tear.
The film footage from the 1960's was taken by Clifford Wong's father. Clifford was one of Sifu Lau Bun's students, and later went on to become a doctor.
yes i have one pic of dr cliffor wong. he had a practice near chinatown. we have the other fooage i think my sifu owmed on super 8 film that contained prof. lau bun in it
@@hungsingkwoonusa650 Yes, I am. After Clifford's father took the home movies, when modern videos came along, the films were transferred to video and distributed to different people. I wouldn't know specifically who gave it to you.
I highly recommend the book, "Striking Distance: Bruce Lee & the Dawn of Martial Arts in America," by Charles Russo. The entire first chapter is about Sifu Lau Bun. Chapter 13, "Incident at the Sun Sing Theater," is about how Kenneth Wong, a student of one of Lau Bun's senior students, beat Bruce Lee in a little demo contest. The end of chapter 4, "The Little Dragon," tells a story about how Lau Bun chased a young Bruce Lee out of Hung Sing. The book also has other chapters on other Kung-Fu notables around at the time, as well as some history of the Chinese in America, and what they went through.
SIR, I am of Lau Bun's lineage. I am Lau Bun's 3rd generation. my sifu is Dino Salvatera the current successor of the Lau Bun lineage. I appreciate your input, but look out for my book on OUR lineage of CLF. Russo's story was good. but wasn't totally accurate in some parts. but yes know how kenneth got on stage and blocked everyone of Bruce's lee's punches in front of the entire audience. there are other stories of how bruce lee came into the hung sing kwoon screaming cause lau bun's students handled his students. when he saw it was lau bun who came out of the office, bruce lee tucked tail cause he knew he was in trouble then. thanks, but you're preaching to the quoir
Yes, I realize of course that for you, I'm preaching to the choir. But I wanted folks in the general public who see this video, who aren't from Lau Bun's lineage, to know about this. I was one of Lau Bun's students, my name is Michael Wong, Dino knows me. I'm in one of the still photos in your video, if you look at minute 22.20, the still photo of Lau Bun wearing a suit and tie in a group photo of his students in his club, I'm the skinny kid on the far left in the first row. This was taken when I was in high school. I am interested in your book, please let me know when it comes out, I'll buy it. Thanks.
@@michaelw7867 damn im forgetting the guys name in front of you...last name lau i think. but we went to his funeral. buat that's you huh? i have those pair of couplets behind you. I believe Lau Bun did the calligraphy on them.
Choy, Hung, Lau, Ng, Mok were the five major southern styles. Choy Li fut is a combination of Choy Gar and Li Gar with strong northern influences. I think it also had influences from the southern Hung Gar style too.
