The question is, is Lp(a) a marker for thrombotic vascular inflammation or is it a cause? Is it an arsonist or a fireman? I've seen information for both sides and I'm confused 🤔

Research the Pauling Therapy. Get a LP(a) blood test. You can buy them for $50 online. It will be your baseline. Then implement the Pauling Therapy for 12 months. Get another LP(a) blood test. You got nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Why do some elderly people with very HIGH (lifetime) levels of Lp(a) have perfectly normal coronary arteries (i.e. ZERO plaque) and pristine aortic valves (i.e. NO calcium whatsoever)?
@Miguel-jv8rf

Good question. I've seen many comments from people on RU-vid with very high LP(A) but without CVD.

Exactly. As one who has been dealing with this for 20 years this sounds a lot like other numbers we chased only to learn later it was not a cause.

According to Pauling and Rath they must have been ingesting lots of vitamin C. C helps repair damaged arteries so there is no need for LPa (or LDL) to be deposited as a repair.

@@randyblanton5580your forgetting it's Lysine and Proline that bind to Lp-a in the blood to neutralize Lp-a or at least bring it down to a low level like mine. Vitamin C will repair the damaged exposed strands of Lysine and Proline. My Lp-a level is 20mg/dl

I’m a Dr from the U.K. who had this done last week. I’m 44 years of age, my VO2 max is 42ml/min/kg, I’m a type I diabetic, with 23% body fat but 47% muscle (dexa equivalent scan), on Atorvastatin 20mg nocte, last HbA1c of 61 mmol/L (I know 🙄), very active, zone 2, powerlifting, BJJ, moderate ETOH, never smoked and my Lp(a) has come back at 176 mmol/L!? 75mg/dL). There is NO ASCVD in my family except for my mothers brother who had a fatal MI aged 58, after getting on a treadmill, he was unfit and a lifelong smoker and he is one of 13 kids, all otherwise well and some I n their 70’s and a mild MI in my paternal grandfather and that was at 71 following AAA surgery and he had alcoholic neuropathy from his 40’s, smoked 60 a day (you read that right) for over 50 years (with the naturally accompanying emphysema) and the only exercise he ever took in his life was going to and from the pub. The Old man and his brothers all smoked 60 a day for at least 25 years but did physical work their whole lives, now aged 73, 74 and 75 and the eldest lad with DM II has mild ASCVD the other are 2 fit as; my cousins like the rest of the family (I have at least 50), have no Hx of stroke/TIA/angina/MI so out of 70 or so people there is a soupçon of ASCVD in people with significant risk factors and nothing else. How in Gods name is my Lp(a), that high? Poorly controlled diabetes? I’m a Dr and I’m scratching my head here, so any advice would be appreciated 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@motorcitycobra2009 to further lower ldl, you could add zetia to your statin... another option would be to use a shot of repatha every two weeks which would lower ldl and actually lowers lipoprotein a by an average of 27 percent (pcsk9 inhibitor).... however, repatha does not have fda approval to lower lipoprotein a and might not be covered by insurance ( cost is about 600 dollars per month)... pelacarsen is a great drug and lowers lipoprotein a very well but likely wont be fda approved until 2025 or 2026...

My LPa is 413 NMol/L. I've had triple bypass and one stent. I've asked my cardiologist about any clinical studies and he doesn't seem interested in helping me. He wants my LDL as low as possible and says thet's the only thing I need to do aside from diet and exercise. How do I get in touch with someone for a study?

How do I find out if I am Lp(a) null? I have done a DNA test through 23 and me. Is the data already in there to be found? In my case I have good reason to doubt my non-detect Lp(a) level is genetic as the literature states. I am wondering if my non-detectable level Lp(a) might be an epi-genetic effect of my rare combination of diet (low carb/carnivore and OMAD) and exercise metabolic regime (long distance thru-hiker who spends months on-trail hiking 10 to 12 hours per day). None of my 3 siblings have Lp(a) levels that are non-detect. With respect to Lp(a), the literature does not speak to the effects of a zero carb/carnivore diet or daily high intensity long duration exercise. From what I have been able to discern, my combination of diet and exercise constitute a metabolic regime for which there is no published data or research. My Lp(a) is non-detect (

You keep repeating, behavioral influencers have nothing to do with risk. Did I miss the part where you cite the studies to back this alarmist opinion? This is absurd when it's obvious that smoking, high carbohydrate and high triglycerides and a sedentary lifestyle will absolutely influence outcomes in this and all populations. I don't think we need a study to prove this.
@jonbroome9049
@jonbroome9049 Год назад
That’s not what he said. Behavioural factors - diet, exercise, smoking, weight etc. - have minimal effect on Lp(a) levels which is A single risk factor. However, they all lower the overall risk level of a heart attack etc.
@larsnystrom6698
@larsnystrom6698 Год назад
Does lowering LDL also lowers Lp(a)? If it does, this might be why lowering LDL seems to be good statistically. But why it probably would have no effect if the Lp(a) is low. This is purely speculation by someone rather ignorant. But perhaps someting a researcher would like to find out. The reason for this speculation is that I think there's something odd about LDL levels having any effect. Hign level in older people seems to be good for mortality, contradicting that lower levels are good. If there's something in my speculation, that might leed to some kind of explanation of that.
@danteburritar2822
@danteburritar2822 Год назад
LP(a) is a type of LDL : therefore lowering LDL lowers LP(a). LDL per se is not bad, but small dense LDL which is what you end up with with LP(a) is bad. Cholesterol is good and healthy unless it is LP(a) or another type of small dense LDL. Big fluffy LDL for example is very good.

I am Lpa null.(rs41259144). I have a cytosine to thymine substitution at position 160601075 of chromossome 6 that less than 1 in 1,000 people have that causes truncation and loss of function of Lpa protein. Several people in my family have lived to be over 100 including my great-uncle who is still alive at 105(I am 43), but I don't know if this is related to that or not. My blood work shows non-detectable Lpa and VLDL particles. I also have a missense variant of APOB gene at rs72653092 that causes a substitution of an actine for a thymine that and change in coded amino acid that results in extremely low levelsof LDL-c with elevated triglycerides. My blood work confirms LDL-c of 20 mg/DL. Oddly, my triglycerides are alsolow mostly because I eat little fat. This misense mutation occurs inn 1 out of 800 people.

Are you saying that your family has low LPa as far as you know? I wonder if that is what has helped so many reach 100? Also, do you happen to know the diet of your uncle who is 105?!
@petercoderch589
@petercoderch589 Год назад
@@plants_and_wellness1574 No, I have a very rare null allele of the LPA gene that causes complete loss-of-function of the gene and impairs the maturation of LP(a). Also, because the allele is autosomal dominant, just one copy from one parent results in no detectable LP(a). And diet has no effect on LP(a) level. It is determined alsmost 100% by genetics.

@plants_and_wellness1574 Год назад
@@petercoderch589 I’m aware that diet doesn’t affect Lp(a) but it DOES affect LDL-C/ApoB and the very atherogenic LDL-small which is very important. It also affects Lp-PLA2 which shows vascular inflammation and is also a independent risk factor for heart disease/stroke/heart attack.

The cheapest and easiest way to learn your Lp(a) is just test it directly, it's a common lab test, costs about $50. You can order it yourself online. You only need to get tested once, it is genetic, doesn't vary much up or down. I have been tested 7 times, always 328 nmol/L plus or minus ~5. Your doctor can order it (if he's even HEARD about it), or I can tell you where if you need to.
