“Is it true you shouted at Professor Umbridge?” “Yes....” “You called her a liar?” “Well, yes - ” “Have a biscuit, Potter” “Have - what?” Best scene ever
@@anuvakhanna7213if I recall the books correctly, even HE mounted his own subtle rebellion against Umbridge in his own way. Have to genuinely be the worst person to have SNAPE of all people to hate you. 😂
Her actress is honestly god-tier. She sounds all sweet and bubbly but there's always this hint of malice in everything she says. That must have been hard to perfect.
Exactly. She _almost_ captured Dolores Umbridge in the books. Almost, because she looks beautiful and not like a toad trying to look like girly and lovely which is twice as appalling (which she is in the book 😂)
Not only Imelda Staunton is a brilliant actress - and singer! - with an amazing range; but one of the sweetest, most entertaining people out there. She also narrated quite a few audio books for children. Quite entertaining, with Umbridge in mind. :D
She’s hated, but that’s exactly why she’s a great character. The fact that no matter how much the characters hate her, they can’t do shit because she has politics on her side. That’s a pretty unique way to make your character hatable.
fun fact: everybody hated umbridge so much that even the actress that played her hated the character. shows how much she has skill she even hates her own character 🤠
Yeah and I thought that Umbridge was bad in the books because she only inflicted her punishment method on Harry and Lee as well as getting Fred, George, and Harry a lifetime ban from playing Quidditch.
I’m surprised they cut out the twist that it was Umbridge who sent those dementors after Harry and his cousin Dudley. Would have loved to see a scene of that happening. Something like this: Umbridge: Very well. You give me no choice, Potter. As this is a matter of Ministry Security, you leave me with... no other alternative. The Cruiciatus Curse ought to loosen your tongue. Hermione: NO!!! Professor, that's illegal! The Ministry wouldn’t want you breaking the law- Umbridge: [Putting a picture of Fudge face down] What Cornelius doesn't know won't hurt him. [prepares to curse Harry] Harry: [Suddenly puts two-and-two together] It was you! You sent those dementors after me and my cousin that summer. That was no accident! Umbridge: Yes, I did. Someone had to act. But then Dumbledore had to get you out of trouble. I knew then he would try to ruin everything we the Ministry created. But I've learned this much: take what you can... WHEN YOU CAN. Harry: Then you've learned nothing! Umbridge: [Gives a sadistic look] Have I? [Points wand at Harry] Allow me.
In a franchise completely overflowing with gigantic talents, Imelda Staunton just absolutely killed it as Umbridge. She utterly commanded attention in pretty much every scene she was in and made the character so very known and relatable to horrible people we all have experienced in real life. She should win every award there is for her portrayal.
Fred: We loved him, he died Sirius: We loved him, he died Lupin: We loved him, he died Tonks: We loved her, she died Dobby: We loved him, he died Hedwig: We loved her, she died Dumbledore: We loved him, he died Lily: We loved her, she died James: We loved him, he died Cedric: We loved him, he died Umbridge: We hate her, *she's still alive* 🤬
I've met Imelda Staunton in a book store in London few years ago. She was nice enough for me to just shake hands with her, take a picture together and I told her that I'm a fan and I politely said to her "I hate you in Harry Potter" she laughed hard when I said that to her, she responded "I know, I hate Umbridge too". Yes Imelda hates Umbridge as much as we all do 😂😂 She's a nice person irl, i enjoyed meeting her for just about 5 minutes. I hope i get to see her again someday 🤗
I think it is often overlooked that Imelda gave life to umbridge like literally i can’t see any other actress play umbridge greatly than her. From the giggles to the expressions.
You can easily see that Imelda Staunton must've dealt with awful people like Umbridge before in her life who were an inspiration for the role. Her acting is so spot on.
She’s basically the King Joffrey of the Harry Potter series. We all wanted to see something bad happen to her. And for that, the actress who played her did a phenomenal job.
@@joaniekeyser4036yeah, the kid was a natural talent for playing such a despicable character. That’ll always bother me: people hating certain hatable characters so much, they take it out on the actors who, more often than not, are genuinely the sweetest, kind and nicest people imaginable. Probably because they’ve seen or KNOW people who act like that in real life and make that into their work as the natural talents they are. It’d be a different story if the actors themselves were just as bad, if not somehow WORSE, than the characters they’re playing. But that’s a completely different story. Not the case for Jack though… seriously swell and great guy, with so much potential for that sort of thing.
I actually love how Snape's scandalised expression when Umbridge interrupts Dumbledore is the most emotion we see from him until the pensieve memories... 😂
2:28 idk why but i love this scene Not because of that pink girly girl toad Because it shows that the teachers also hate her, and that they’re not zombies who just teach. I’m not sure if it’s just me, but maybe like if you agree? If not, thats fine
In the book Umbridge is deranged, psychological Sadist, full of hatred for Harry and Dumbledore and far more despicable woman than what is portrayed in the movie. In the movie they have added a comic touch to her character.
I was seriously in love with her actingi where she played the role of a bad mistress under the facade of smiling and looking-to-do-good teacher. Not to forget she is an oscar winner
Fun fact: ( or not so fun actually ) As we all know, Umbridge got taken away by Centaurs. In mythology, Centaurs are brute human/animal hybrids that usually cant control their more "beastly" urges. They are known to abduct and rape human women and are from time to time more beast than man. Long story short: you can probaly guess what happened to Umbridge...
if that's how she was on the books and it made her live the character to the movie series then she's the great actor ever played that role and if she made your blood boil then she gotta win the Oscars , Golden Globes , and whatever worlds awards choices as she made emotions by just playing an imaginary person from books.
As someone who booth reads books and watched movie, I really appreciate prof McGonnagal. She always stood for her students while encouraging them to be nice to Dolores and leave it to her. She was literally like: "Behind me kids, I will take care of this"
Truly one of the greatest evil performances in cinema history. On par with Nurse Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (which deservedly won Louise Fletcher an Oscar).
0:19 Umridge: *Stands up* Dumbledore: *Wait im not done talki-* Snape: v i s i b l e c o n f u s i o n Students: *I-Is she the new plumber here at Hogwarts?* Mcgonagall: *Hmm she might be very nice to our students!* Also Mcgonnagall: *Ok she's a fat pinky musty crusty rusty person.* The other proffesors: *bruh theres nothing more scarier than a pissed Dumbledore so dont piss him off*
I have the same amount of hatred that I have for umbridge that I have for Voldemort, Dudley, Petunia, Vernon, Rita skeeter, Fudge, Grey back. but times it by 10000000000000000000000.
Imelda seems like such a wonderful woman in real life, and she usually plays caring and gentle characters. That she was able to pull off Umbridge's craven sadism is a real testament to her acting skills.
*Umbridge slapping Harry real hard and calling him a liar* Breaking News! Umbridge has been hit by a car! Me: oh that was ur girl? I thought I recognized her
but she would be immediately be transferred to St. Mungo’s and sadly because she wasn’t hit by something magical, they would be able to save her from dying very easily. :(
Snape's reaction gets me every time. i laughed even harder thinking how he had gotten over Lockhart and now this, but I suppose with Dumbledore he wasn't too surprised having too go through another insufferable year of something he despises since Lupin although good was his former enemy and well Moody was certainly questionable. 🤣🤣🤣 I'd pay to see those after portrait reactions of him and Dumbledore together already seen the McGonagall parodies 😂
