Thanks for the comment Brian, I could not agree more - I believe it is possibly the best looking hot hatch ever, the proportions are just right. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the comment, I hope my video brought back some fond memories. I have not used my Mk1 RS this year but really looking forward to getting it out in 2025... it is one of my favourites. Thanks for taking the time to watch the video.
RS looks fantastic! Couple of points…the RS has blue capped indicator bulbs, the centre caps need to aligned with the tyre valve, keep the bonnet vents, they’re not original but somehow seem to “suit” it. For me more of an eyesore is the updated intercooler…. Your channel, popped up yesterday, loving the fast Ford’s you own, subscribed!
Thanks for the comment and sub. 👍 Appreciate your feedback on the vents. I've been lazy with the centre caps and meaning to buy the correct bulbs... I will get on it. Thanks for watching, I really appreciate the support.
Thanks for the comment and feedback on my Mk1 RS. Personally, I think the Mk1 RS is the best looking hot hatch ever made, I absolutely love them and wanted one since they were new. I am really glad to own this car as it is a well used example which means I do not mind taking it out and enjoying it. Thanks for watching the video.
Thanks for the comment. I am inclined to agree - it is certainly the best looking and most fun to drive, so what else is there when it comes to a hot hatch? It's not the quickest, but I'll let it off given the Mk1 RS is now 20 years old! Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the comment Wayne and for sharing your thoughts on my work on the RS - it is one of my favourite cars; a car I have wanted since they launched. Thanks for taking the time to watch, I really appreciate the support for my Channel.
Looks mikes better with the standard lights and standard colour alloys. Little observation though, standard the front indicators came with blue indicator bulbs… I think the tinted ones you took out had them in. A small thing but attention to detail I guess.
Thanks for the comment Thomas, I appreciate your feedback on the Focus. Thanks also for the info on the indicator bulbs, I will dig the blue tinted bulbs and put them back into the car. Thanks for watching.
I just purchased a focus RS and is coming over to Canada. Can’t wait to drive it! If I can offer my opinion, I would recommend spraying the front of the intercooler and a flat black. It would probably match the upper grill a lot better.
Thanks for the comment. You must be very excited about the delivery of your Focus RS; they are iconic cars and really do not disappoint. I totally agree regarding the intercooler and will get to that one day, along with a few other engine jobs - I am currently working on another project (video goes live today), and the Focus is sat behind this one in the queue for work... but I will get around to it. Thanks for watching.
@aaron13133 Where are you in Canada? And where did you source your RS from? RHD or LHD? I'm in Vancouver and been looking around for a nice clean sample and they're not easy to find...
@@philipheung4187 RHD. Only RHD in canada. Its from UK. Ive checked the registry. Im the only RHD so far and theres only one other and its the LHD. Mines 2722 and the LHD one is 3635 The LHD one is for sale in quebec currently. For 60,000$ i got mine for half the price.
@@TheCanadianRS I remember coming across 2722 in my search. 3635 was actually listed on Vancouver CL for half the asking price back in 2018. Who are you using to ship it back? Where you based? I'm in YVR
@@philipheung4187 i’m in Winnipeg, transportation will be up to the dealer who I am dealing with right now in the UK, but as for Halifax, to Winnipeg, I believe the company name is TFX transport
Thanks for the comment. I like the vents and will be keeping them - you make a good point about dispersing the heat; the engine does run a bit warmer than standard thanks to the modifications. Thanks for watching.
I've got an ich for these that i might need to scratch, had a 2.0 focus when i was 18 in 2002. Loved it. Not sure if I saw yours down at Godrevy a couple or 3 summers ago (possible?), hadnt seen one for years. Look so nice on the the road.
Thanks for the comment. I can understand a Mk1 RS being on your list of cars to own, they are brilliant. I’ve not been to Godrevy in the RS, but have been there in my MG V8 and a few others. Spotting a Mk1 RS on the road these days is a rarity, but they do look fabulous. Thank you for watching. Stay in touch and let me know when you get one.
You need to turn the centre caps round so the rs logo is facing the tyre valve!! Looks wise the car is perfect, the bonnet vents suit it perfectly!! But if your refitting the standard airbox system it'll need a trip back to its tuners!! Obviously it'll throw the afr's way out.
Thanks for the comment Mark, it is great to have some positive feedback about the RS... I adore it. As for the centre caps, I'll get right on it when the car comes out in the Spring! 😉 No plans to refit the standard airbox, it is just nice to have it. The Focus does need to return to the tuners though as it is constantly coming on and off boost at 70mph, making is a pig to drive on the dual carriageways and motorways. It is still the most exciting car I currently own (and possibly have ever owned). Thanks for watching.
@@cornishcarcollectors I've have a MK2 focus rs and have the centre cap lined up with the rs badge on the spoke, the tyre valve and the locking wheel nut so there all in a line😂😂😂 but yeah your mk1 is looking perfectly OEM+👌
Thanks for the comment, I am so glad you like the Focus RS Mk1 (it is my favourite!). Also, I appreciate the feedback on the vents. Usually I like my cars to look standard, but these vents just look right on the car and serve a purpose in helping to get the heat off the engine. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the comment and sharing your thoughts on the vents. I agree that they look good and provide additional cooling... they are not going anywhere for now. Thanks for watching.
Vents on a fast ford's hood are very common, therefore although they are not standard they aren't looking bad. I would detuned it a little and for sure raise the ride height, imho it looks to low. Absolutely love the RS.
Thanks for the comment and feedback on the car. Stay tuned as work will continue on my Mk1 RS as we continue to preserve and restore it. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the comment. The Mk2 RS is a fantastic car and I would like to own one, but to be honest I am really enjoying the Mk2 ST at the moment - I do appreciate they are very different cars. I have actually bought another Ford RS, but I have gone older... so please do stay tuned to the Channel as I'll be putting a video out about it very soon. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the comment. The centre caps for the wheels were brand new from Ford; I bought them from a member of the Imperial Blue Facebook page as he had sold his RS and not used the caps. I know they do come up for sale on eBay occasionally, but if you just want the stickers then try DMB Graphics. I am not sure if they do them, but well worth a try. Thanks for watching.
Hello Andy Really enjoying the channel excellent illustrations and content. Ive been following the progress on your RS with interest as i own one myself (build No4307) for 6yrs now. You certainly got the car at a knock down price just over £9K real bargain so plenty of scope to improve has your doing so. What i dont understand (please correct me if im wrong) but looking at the MOT history im guessing it was the previous owner who had it MOT,ed in Sept 2020 on 135537 miles with NO advisories then you had the next MOT on the car in March 2022 on 136918 miles and got a a long list of advisories many structural and parts corrosion? whereas the car had only done 1381 miles from 2020 Mot 2022 Mot .. id question all those advisories in such a short time? Or maybe even the previous 2020 MOT? Anyway with the mileage on the car its one to certainly drive and enjoy instead of being an utlra low sub 30.000 mile garage queen as mine has 69K on the clock to which we use for the summer show scene etc. Are you going to be planning an under body restoration of subframes and arms? As thats on the to do list for mine after this years summer season. .. im 50/50 on the vents il admit but id certainly get rid of the rear window tints and put a front bottom splitter on as thats what Ford should of included ive always said. Anyway Andy once again great video and RS featured looking forward to the next installment hope all goes well 😎 P.s on a different subject even though the Focus MK1 RS is classified as a.Euro 3 its actually ULEZ compliant as we live just outside the Greater London ULEZ barrier and ive email documentation from TFL that the car is free because the engine meets the EURO 4 emission regulations, Still living in Cornwall the ULEZ is probably non exsistant and i hope for the forseable future as its a total Rip off.
Thanks for watching the RS video - it is great to get feedback on the car and the content, but means that bit more when coming from a fellow owner. I adore my Focus RS... it is quite unique and I am enjoyed the challenge of winding it back a bit to a more standard appearance. As you say, with the miles (and condition) I can drive it and not stress too much about depreciation. The car needs the underside doing and I'll get to it once the Sierra Cosworth is done (I'll probably do some preservation work on my Focus RS Mk3 first). The MOT advisories are right, I think the 2020 MOT was fairly kind! No ULEZ in Cornwall and long may that continue. Thanks for watching and keep enjoying your RS.
Your welcome Andy I remember when the MK1 FRS first came out in 2003. I had a J plate saff then (J400 RSC) and was thinking of getting one as the Focus was basically a lifeline as well to the RSOC as nothing new from fords since 1996 in the RS department. The car as you rightly say retailed for around the £21.ooo mark when new but very quickly began to lose money in its early years to the point of many owners selling after 2 3 4 yrs and some prices i remember at £10.ooo for a 4yr old car This was when there was a post on the RSOC forum from one of the registrars in an effort to calm many members who were selling (sorry cant remember the registrars name) but in the post he was telling people dont panic and explained why ... He said the Mk1 FRS is the next generation Series 1 RST in the Focus also being a strictly limited production, one colour, bespoke exterior/interior factors and in time it will surpass the present of any devaluation to enter the realms of the Series 1 RST statue and become the rare sought after limited RS for the enthusiast and also the serious collector Well hes words certainly have come true as the car now hits its 20yr anniversary to which i recently read an artical in which it was said that now more than ever the 20yr anniversary of the Mk1 FRS is even more simoismous with its WRC heritage and background plus of course the legend who drove it in Colin McRae. All the best Andy (Great channel) 😎
Thousands of hours of the best minds in the automotive world went into working out how best to cool the Focus RS engine while keeping drag as low as possible. Step forward a Kwik Fit tyre fitter 10 years later who cut a couple of holes in the bonnet because she thought it looked 'cool'.
Thanks for the comment. I do agree with you - I like to keep my cars standard, but these vents are now part of my RS's history... I'll make my mind up one day! Thanks for sharing your opinion and for watching the video.
Thanks for the comment Andrew. I do agree with you, it is one of the next couple of jobs on the list. Do stay tuned as I'll feature further progress on my RS in the spring / summer.
Thanks for the comment - I have got some standard speaker pods, just in case I want to swap them back at some point in the future. Having said that, for now at least, I like the sound these uprated speakers give me... for now! Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the comment Jeff and for taking the time to watch the video. Interesting view, thanks for sharing - I like hearing other people's opinions on the cars and work I do to them... I cannot agree re. the headlights and interior, but do understand these RSs are not to everyone's taste. Thanks for watching.
Common sense Must prevail. Your mk1 RS focus looks standard as you've got it back to how Ford intended (vents in a moment) However the engine now has 300bhp. Not how Ford built it. Now since it has 300bhp by distinction more heat is developed. More heat means More cooling is Needed. Now to those vents. They Are needed. They look Standard and as Ford Would have done had they built it with 300bhp. Those vents look like they belong there and because they've been mounted to a very high standard then you should keep them there. Yes they're not standard But neither is your car anymore (engine tuned). Leave them on. As for EV's that has to be the Biggest can of worms ever. Total con in my book. We're just not ready for them yet. Keep up your excellent work m8 👍
Thanks for the comment and for taking the time to share your opinion, which I am inclined to agree with - vents will be staying. The engine does indeed run a little warmer as a result of the modifications and the vents do serve a real purpose, plus they are a subtle nod to the car's increased power. As for EVs... doubt you'll ever see one in my ownership on the Channel! Thanks for watching, I really appreciate the support.
Thanks for the comment and for sharing your opinion on the vents. The car has not come out in 2023, but I'll have it back on the road for Spring and will decide then whether the vents stay or go! Hope you stay tuned to see more on my RS. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the comment and thoughts on the vents... I do remain in two minds about them. As for the front splitter, I am not a big fan but do understand why some think it really completes the front of the car. If we were all the same it would be boring. Thanks for watching - hope you stay tuned as I will feature the RS more here on my Channel. 👍
Thanks for the comment Rick. There are days I totally agree with you and others when I am quite acceptant of the vents, mainly because the car is extensively modified. I think I will buy a second standard bonnet so that I've got the option to swap them out and see how I feel. Do stay tuned as I will continue to feature this car and my progress with it. Thanks for watching.
All this electric car stuff is nonsense.complete load of crap.i am just glad that i was born when i was and have bin able to enjoy great motoring in great cars.prity much all cars are dead to me now.1st jaguar and now ford.i wont ever buy an electric car.i mean, why on earth would you.dull, boring characterless boxes with the heart of washing machines.the focus looks good but to me theres really only 1 rs,the sierra cosworths.oh and your bonnet vents look great.👍
Thanks for the comment Ivan; and if you are a fan of the Sierra Cosworth then stay tuned! 😉 I agree with your thoughts on EVs - I've not really seen one that I like, but the big issue for me is the infrastructure... it just does not exist. Seems crazy to me that we are in / heading into an energy crisis yet at the same time being pushed into electric vehicles the majority of which will charge evenings and overnight, the same time the UK is using lots of electricity. Seems crazy, particularly when you add in the environmental impact of manufacturing these 'green' EVs. We will see what happens. Thanks for watching.
