I’ll just throw this out there and maybe it helps someone. I got a quote through Progressive and it was $13,000 a year. I shopped around a bit and went through Northwest Truck Insurance for half that. Yes, that’s right, my annual is just over $6,000 which is super low and I’m non CDL out of Southern Oregon. Give them a call, you never know, maybe they can help.
It’s not just progressive. It’s all insurance companies that raise prices at renewal. Personal insurance too. They make up stories saying based on all the drivers and claims in your state we are raising everyone’s premiums. My commercial insurance renewal was $1000 higher with Berkshire Hathaway so my agent was able to get me a quote with Progressive thats $3000 cheaper per year.

Even with regular cars. I remember my car insurance used to go down every year while keeping my record clean. Now, its been going up every year since 2020, with the same clean record and same 11 year old car. It's really just a robbery on insurance companies. Spent so much time totalling vehicles/trucks during the pandemic that now they're looking to make all that money back.
Progressive is crazy. A policy holder sideswiped us, and was given a ticket. They actually called us first. Since they called us we filed a claim with them, not through our insurance. They refused to cover the costs of repairs. Customer service was nada when we spoke. So we sent them a copy of our dashcam video showing that their client was in the wrong. Then the apologies poured in, and the repairs were done asap. We’re not a fan of the company. Great video!

Been watching your channel since I started hotshoting in 2021-2022 I started hotshoting at 21 yrs old and I paid 32k for my insurance my first year operating. It was expansive but i made it work i make some profits my first yr and everything was going great, I was getting direct loads and I was building relationships with brokers and I paid off my insurance early 3 months before I was supposed to pay it off and when it was time for renewal they raised it to 56k a yr and put me out of business lol but thins happen for a reason and I still keep coming back to the Chanel and seeing you guys grow

What I have learned over the years dealing with insurance (not this particular kind) is that you get nothing for loyalty anymore. You must shop and be prepared to move to a different company every year. Thanks for the info concerning hot shotting specifically.

I’m not in the business as of yet but I’m learning through your guys. On the insurance side, my regular Geico auto policy went up about 20-30% recently so its all across the board commercial and regular auto. Our agent said its happening all over in TX with all policies

In 2013 they did shut us down going from $1800 mo to $3500 after year with spotless record! Signed with Landstar after that. Never go with Progressive if you want to stay in business!

Progressive has lost their mind!!! Same exact thing just happened to us we up for renewal right now and I thought they made a mistake!!! From 13k to 26k!!! Zeronon our loss run report and they could not explain why except rate revisions happened in our state PA!
I just renewed my Progressive and it went probably less than 10%, but I also increased cargo to 150k. They told me part of the increase was do to a change in WA state regulations. A problem I see is all these folks (including me) who recently got into the game. An even bigger issue I believe are the number of guys running "non-cdl" with 3500 and a 16GN. Most definitely cdl range. Also the trucks running without numbers but you know they're hauling in a commercial capacity. Anyone in the game knows exactly what I'm talking about.

I just did my renewal with progressive our 1st one. It actually went down $350 but then they offered us a $2k discount if we paid the year in full which would make the payment around 1k a month which is what we wanted. But it’s just by the grace of god that we’re able to pay the full year lol they let us split it up over 2 months. So seems like we got extremely blessed this go around to be able to survive another year 😬. Home base is north east of Dallas.

Hello, good people I am going through the same thing as we speak. A tractor trailer backs into my new truck and tore a hole in the driver side rear. A certain insurance company we won`t name says your deductible is $2500 and to replace that entire side only cost $2600. Therefore, you only will receive a $100.00. Fix it and get over it. I pay a lot of money for insurance that's a third of your expense for new guys getting into the business. I like you guys with your content, to keep it real how it really works out here, I am financing a dream through BS you tubers your advice is to have other income coming in, you mentioned this in one of your videos keep passing it on thank you.
I agree that there are a lot of ppl in the game right now that aren't good with securement, safety, maintenance, and the things that prevent excessive claims within the industry. Progressive raised everyone's rate, my insurance increased after my renewal that came about 6 months of having insurance with them. Told me my rate went up because of the accident percentage in my area. So basically I'm paying more because of accident that happened with others. However, when it comes to trucking insurance, I don't think there's any insurance out there that'll compare to Shelter insurance. When I was on the road hotshoting I used Shelter and didn't pay but $742 a month for truck, trailer, and a million on cargo coverage. About 4 months in my rate dropped to $644 a month. My suggestion is try Shelter Insurance.
I’ve had that happen with my personal insurance as well. We get hit bc of the fault of others. Thats never made sense to me. Never heard of shelter but we’ll have to talk to out agent to see about them. Thanks we got a good rate with another company but sheesh $700 sounds real food right now!
I am up for my 1st renewal in about a month ish. I have 20 years in trucking but only 1 yr with my own authority doing hotshot, perfect record, good credit, paid 1st yr cash up front. My rate goes up at all I might just shut it down as its just not fun anymore anyways. Idk we will see.
I’m in the same boat with my personal vehicles and home owner’s policy has literally doubled 😢 glad to see you guys are able to power through 💪 I have family that’s an insurance broker and even he had to suck it up on his policies too that doubled on him.

I’ll say it again here that lots of insurance companies are in trouble financially from all those claims that has been filed and paid out just in the past few years. If you don’t know about all the auto thefts and recalls of some makes and models for faulty equipment making them catch fire, some big insurance companies are dropping their clients and not even insuring some vehicles. All that and then the claims from Mother Nature. So they’re not going to take a loss by NO means and WE the people are paying the price to keep them rich in their profits 🥲 just another form of racketeering imo
FYI...Louisiana here!! I drive a 1998 Peterbilt 379. I was paying $1472 per month on a $15K policy. Ended up with a rear-end failure and was down for a minute. We decided to cancel the policy because of the amount of time to complete the repair. Truck is ready. I'm told in Louisiana, Progressive is the only company that will insure a truck older than 20 yrs of age. I'm getting quotes in excess of $35K for 1 year. That's more than %100 increase. I have 2 loss runs on the policy (both were less than $1000). I'm currently in limbo and have some serious decisions to make going forward. Thanks for the video.

The economy, market and other inexperienced drivers are making things worse every day. Hoping things turn around soon. In insurance it never goes down it always goes up. I just got my renewal and I went from 1350 to 2500 as well. It’s a scam I got the same report and still was super expensive. 27k insurance with clean record no tickets , csa score clean no claims. Still they jacked it up from 15k to 27k. Thats ridiculous but that’s what they do when they don’t want your business. That’s there hint to you. Besides there’s a lot of customers that don’t take progressive to go into there facilities and get loaded. When you send your certificate of insurance to a loading facility and they see you have progressive it ends right there. They say that progressive doesn’t like pay claims specially on cargo coverage or on physical damage claims on your tractor and if you are at fault it’s coming out of pocket on your end. It’s sad what insurance is doing to owner operators. They just want us out of business. The funny thing is owner operators are actually the last to go out of business compared to a bigger company with all there leased equipment that they have. They can’t afford to stay in business specially when you are paying for a coverage that wants to force you to close your doors when renewal comes around.

Bro if you make 60k annual just stay there I was making 80k as a semi driver local these hotshot dude hype it up I do gross a 6k but I’m also paying 2500 in diesel and truck payment is 1300 every week is some major payment it’s not worth it plus your on the rd all week not home it sucks these hotshot dudes hype it up

My first year in hotshot we paid to progressive 33k, 2nd year 27k, 3rd year 18k, 4th year 15k, so you could think 5th year will be lower, we renew the equipment and that was the reason (according to progressive) to charge 21k 😠😠😠

There is more to it than you think. Underwriters have the ability to bind the company to the policy. Actuaries make the rate. There is a lot that goes into that rate. You also need to vet the insurance company you are dealing with and make sure they can afford to pay the claims. Shop around, but brokers are not always the answer either. They have no fiduciary responsibility to ensure its good coverage, they want to get paid and will push to the highest commission company if they can. Best wishes! Hope you get it sorted!

Yes, they investigated me even after I told them not to worry about the claim because they were getting aggressive with me and I knew the accident wasn't my fault it was an hit and run and she gave me an unexpected insurance cancellation for 30 days. 🤬🤬
Progressive personal insurance is doing the samething im from Pennsylvania my car insurance went up 400 this yr. So its Progressive as a whole not just certain areas.
I got pulled over today by state trooper he did a surprise inspection on me I passed everything except I lost track of my paper logs he gave me a violation no ticket but a violation he was going to give me another because he didn’t know Keep Trucking is Motive under a new name my dispatch saved my butt I got lucky I usually have everything but a month ago we had truck issues I was moved into 4dif trucks so I lost track of my paper logs
I have progressive for personal insurance . I really am thinking about letting them go at some point in time due to increases with no accidents of my record . Payments made on time for a 2024 Kia rio compact car at that lol . Now I plan on getting into hotshot down the road no way am I using progressive insurance .
Yeah bro it’s crazy how they make the consumer pay for others wrong doings. But definitely look into other companies like Great West when you’re getting started. Much better options in our opinion.
yeah its stupid right now. my monthly insurance is 3k. and its due to having 4 trucks on the policy. and thats per truck. 12k per month total with progressive. looking at other companys now. but looks like if each person pulls thier own dot and mc numbers it will be 1500 per. so having more people not a great idea.
Wow that’s intense! You must have a low overhead as well as the other trucks. Are you a CDL or Non CDL operation? For us having another truck actually helps the policy with the new company we went with.
Same thing just happen to me with progressive they increase my trucking policy 41%. I called they said it’s a standard increase and you guys near doubled the policy. Called my agent she said half of her clients with Progressive have now left. My policy was out of Arizona which was the lowest in the nation for years..

It has 100% do to with your zip code. Your zip code got the highest rate increase due to everyone in your zip code and some other zip codes making claims. Even though your loss history shows nothing. It doesn't matter that your loss history has nothing you are in that zip code. The insurance agency that shops your policy is called an insurance broker. That is who want to deal with so they can shop your insurance with multiple carriers. You most definitely want to be with a carrier that is A rated and you definitely want to deal with a broker who knows your business so they can put you in the correct policy. With progressive halting residential insurance in Cali, word is they will be halting commercial structures next. This only seems right that they double your policy, I think progressive got to big to fast, and have ran their course. Would surprise me if they go under before the economy shake back. There's no way you'd need hazmat to cover hauling cars , hazmat is on required for 1001# of a commodity to require hazmat , with you only being able to haul 2-3 vehicles at a time even with full tanks of gas it would only amount to 900# in a worse case scenario . Whoever you talked to at the FMCSA is a moron . The reason you're insurance went up is because the person with the CDL is very inexperienced and a huge liability with only 2 years under your belt . You should've driven for someone else for 4-5 years before venturing off on your own . I got a cheap insurance rate from progressive and my records not spotless but I've also been driving semi's for 20+ years.
When a trucker kills someone or causes get bodily injury and property damage that trucker has got to go. High P2P scores, got to go. ELD's with multiple log-ins, got to go! Trucking isn't for everyone.
I totally agree with you-safety has to be the number one priority in trucking. If a trucker is causing harm or not following the rules, it's time for them to go. The industry needs people who take their responsibilities seriously and understand the impact they have on others. It's not an easy job, and it's definitely not for everyone. Those who can't meet the standards should step aside for the sake of everyone on the road
