In the first Field of View video, I took a look at the various adjustments we can make to our field of view, without demonstrating them in game. My bad. In this video, we'll look at what happens to your view in Project CARS 2 when you adjust the various parameters of FOV.

The Minimum Speed Sensitivity and Maximum Speed Sensitivity are probably multipliers of the Camera. Ie 80 is 80% (or 0.8) of your 58, so 58 * 0.8 = 46.4, that is what it looks like to me. What I would suggest is you set the Minimum Speed Sensitivity to 100 and then you ideal FOV for finding low speed apexs will be set as you calculated and it will be a lot less variable.

Math is the absolute worst subject I've ever had to do in my life but I build houses go figure, anyways I'm trying to make sense of all of the new math from above if you take his 58 and mult. By .8 you get the 46.4 that I understand. What I don't understand is after I get that 46.4 (or better yet, my numbers when I figure out mine) where would I put the 46.4? According to the pc2 calculator on their site, my focus would be 33 but all I can get to is 35. What is the equations to do my own figuring?

Proper FOV does make a big diff. It does take a while to get used to it. Most people feel more comfortable with that wider view. But as he said in the video, hitting the apex and putting the car where it needs to be will be much easier. No dout. Try it.

Very nice man. Your FOV settings and explanations just added something extra for me. I applied your adjustments and this is the first time I have enabled the "Field Of View Sensitivity" to "Yes" including the Minimum-Maximum adjustments. I previously just raced with a static FOV. I'm loving what the Field Of View Sensitivity adds to the game and better appreciation of vision including better gauging. Cheers bud.

Thanks heaps for bringing this up, it's makes a lot of difference and certainly adds to the reality feeling plus it makes cornering more natural. I know that printed instructions are sooo yesterday but make it an optional extra and the demand may surprise PC2.

i guess the minimum speed sensitivty is percent. 80 means, that you have 80% of your 58 fov, i bet 100 would mean, that it would be exact the same as the fov of 58, and 120 in your setting, fov scales 120%.. so 58 becomes 69.6 (20% bigger)

So if you click on restart session and go straight to the options menu and start tweaking fov, you can kind of see the changes real time in the background. IMO, part from the mathematics and learning you apex, speeds, and what not; Setting you cockpit/helmet view at that box looking view of 58 degrees is not immersive. And MSS may fix that at certain speeds or corners but it's just not enough. I mean I'm looking straight at my screen right now but the concept of depth of field allows me to be much more aware of my environment. Hence peripheral vision. It's just not there with a 58 degree cone. I have mine set at 113 with MinMSS at 100 practicing with a McClaren 650s GT3 on a steam controller. And I'm finally start to appreciate this game. Glad Steam denied my request to return it.

I turn fov sensitivity off, I don't like things to constantly change its very distracting and not realistic. My calculated fov is 37, based on a 64 inch screen and sat exactly 7ft away from it.

Hey Mike, as a purely amateur channel, if I ever wonder why I have less that 100 subs, and you are about to hit 2k, I just have to watch this SUPERB video. I really truly enjoy the way you put these things together Mike. For the record, it might be about 2-3 video's away, but I am (also) planning a FOV video, but coming from a totally different perspective/view (pun intended). So I must stress now, that it is in no way a criticism of your thoughts or video's, but just a different way of thinking about it. Now I just have to find out what is the best sounding sports car in AMS for one of my "example" pieces...........

There is also an option to create a kind of visual effect at higher speeds; I noticed a bit of blurring and reddish coloration coming in around the edges as I got faster and faster. It was reminiscent of NFS: Shift's driver's effects, but not as pronounced. I actually really like it, but I'm sure it'll be hit or miss with many people.

Aardvark892 The blurring around the edges at higher speeds is a setting specific to helmet view and can be changed.

It would be better if the cockpit stayed static. The cars dash shouldnt move closer then further away. That just looks weird. That means the top of the dash keeps moving behind my steering wheel. I want the top of the dash to be static, above the top edge of the wheel rim.
@krzychaczu
@krzychaczu 6 лет назад
You still might see too much of the interior. The windscreen is 1/3 or less of the monitor. Bring your seat much closer (WSAD keys) , so you can see just a tip of the steering wheel and dash. Then you will find the new field of view settings natural.
@davidtsmith33
@davidtsmith33 6 лет назад
Yup, that's what I'd done. Also raised the seat to get it as you said. Both in order to increase the windshield view as thought it was too small and also to see more of the track just ahead of the bonnet by raising the seat a bit. Now checking out this vid though to see if I need to re-tweak or leave as is.

Paul Keebles explanation is wrong....the setting is literally what it states it is : min FOV and Max FOV. That it ignores your seat position is irrelevant. The camera sets the FOV you chose.

You said it doesn't make a difference if it's triple screen. I'm in triple (stretched) but I need to be at 147 for cockpit cam to have a view similar to you. It may be because the triple screen option isn't selected in view. Thanks for posting. I'll sub if I haven't already. Which car did you use in the video? Thank you. Edit: now that I set minimum speed sensitivity to 100, I had to drop view to 127

When you come into a tight corner in real life, your focus (FOV) narrows. When you open up on a straight it widens. This is the games way of simulating that.

I was messing around in PrC with the FOV and found the exact same issues when i put it on the calculated value. Found it weird to race with (mirrors, sence of speed). So i get on YT to gather some extra info and this guy is using the exact same car-track combo as i was 25seconds ago. Weird.....

Have you both tried a lower FOV? It really changes the game. The calculator said mine should be 29 degrees! Fuck that, I have it on 45-55. You do lose that "sense of speed" but it all looks more real. However, I like this setting and will be switching it ON and messing with it.

If you "can't hit the apex" with a wide FOV then you shouldn't be racing cars. If anything having a wide FOV will allow you to see more of your surroundings and allow you to see your apex better. Narrow FOV'S are so unrealistic and gross looking. In real life (which is what you should be striving to achieve) you don't see "down a pipe" so to speak, you have a thing called paripheral vision, which allows you to see things off to the side of your field of vision without having to turn your head. Wide FOV'S = better racing experience. But then again that's just my opinion and how I like to race
@Frikgeek
@Frikgeek 6 лет назад
Your real life FOV is ~30 degrees for full focus(this is the zone where you can read, try focusing on something in your peripheral vision and reading without moving your eyeballs), ~135 degrees within your relative focus zone, and ~170 for your mostly subconscious peripheral vision. However with a monitor and an innacurate high FOV you're seeing 90 degrees of FOV within 40-60 degrees of your "real" vision. An accurate FOV means that 55 degrees of your real-life FOV translates to 55 degrees on the monitor.
@Tony-1971
@Tony-1971 6 лет назад
Frikgeek For me personally, using a single screen, i find that a mathematically correct FOV just doesn't look real or feel right. In AC i use 65 and in pCARS 2 im using 100, and that looks and feels good to me. For me personally a realistic visual sensation of speed is more important than a mathematically correct game world size. With a really low FOV i lose all visual sensation of speed. And i always end up braking late, and it looks like im sitting too high above the tracks surface. Higher FOV visually gives me a far more natural and convincing sense of speed. I would say a mathematically correct FOV is good for triple screen users, but even then the visual sense of speed looks off, in project cars 2. Im wondering what the visual sense of speed is like in VR. Would it be higher than if you used triple screen ? I've watched a few vids and project cars 2 with triple screens doesn't seem to give a good visual sense of speed. But in the VR vids it really does look like youre travelling fast on the straights. What would FOV be in VR ? Around 100 ? It looks like its around that, when the driver is looking straight forward.
@MrBurntasphalt55
@MrBurntasphalt55 5 лет назад
The point here is realistically you can see another car on the passenger side beside you with peripheral vision. You barely get to see half of the windshield with these settings, as for sense of speed, how many of these guys telling you what to put your settings at has done anything even similar in real life, muchless the people saying the sense of speed is off? How do you even know? And I know I dont just see my hands, you see a few inches probably about 3-4, up your arm. Sense of speed should primarily be set with a height in the car setting. Obviously smaller vision feels faster but the more focused you are the less fov effects you. So setting the view to what you normally could see in front of you and adjusting the height should be sufficient for people who can really drive in real life. Out of car views dont throw you off because of field of view, being higher makes you feel like you're going slower, exact same thing in real life. Go ask somebody for a ride in a tall vehicle, go 90-100mph and then do it in a car very low to the ground.
