i just bought one a year ago, it had sat at my local high school up north for probably 15 years and she still runs like a champ, has had a few if the usual issues but the frame is honestly very nice on it. its an extended cab 3 door so my floor is rotted out on driver side but other than that im real glad to have your videos on yours.

I have honestly never seen a S10 frame that bad in my life and I run a salvage company. I have one in the yard with a great frame if you’re interested. $400. Located in St Charles, MN

I would love to get after this thing and tear it down, but I don't have room in the shop for the s10 and the 80 Silverado. Once I get the Silverado moving on its own, I might get back to this.

@@mossman381 if I remember you fluid filmed this frame and it wasn’t as bad as it is now? I’m impressed it rotted that bad with fluid film! Has it been parked in the grass for a few years?
@mossman381
@mossman381 6 месяцев назад
@@HODMEChannel I sprayed the cab and bed with Fluid Film. Never did spray the frame. I think I remember trying to dig out as much sand as I could from the front of the frame but couldn't really get much out because of the way it's built. My guess on why 5 years the frame is gone is because the inside of the frame was much worse than the outside. That is usually the way it goes. If you see rust on the outside is much worse on the inside.

@@mossman381 absolutely. They need serious frame flushing and fluid film from the inside out. Every year the truck they put on the roads gets worse and worse.

This S10 frame has so many c-channels welded together I think it's impossible to clean it out.

I can't work on it now but maybe after the 80 Silverado. Just don't have the space in the shop.

Always check frame and structure before anything done it starts there everywhere else can get fixed

It wasn't crumbling like this 5 years ago, but I did expect the frame to rot eventually because it was in bad shape back then.

I don't have room in the shop for the s10 and the 80 Silverado. Maybe once the Silverado can drive on its own, I will come back to this.

i would just look for a good frame and swap everything over if the cab and box are rust free .I did a complete frame off on my 2000 gmc sierra 1500 a few years back . I bought the truck as is from a dealer and it looked mint thick build up of black undercoating everywhere. Then my so called friend says do u know your frame real thin behind the fuel tank . which i didn’t and i had just spent $3500 buying the truck , then had my friend do a bunch of work . in the end i spent $12k and waiting for 8 months for my so called friend to get the truck done which he rushed in 2 days when he had 8 months because i was feed up . i got a truck that had electrical problems but looked new so i sold it . I’m done buying junk vehicles and would rather buy new and have the payment at this point

Buying a used truck is always a little bit of a gamble. I feel like I can look over a truck pretty good but there are so many things you can't see. I have been pretty lucky with all my trucks. I am always open about the trucks when I sell them, so the buyer knows exactly what they are getting. My trucks leave in way better condition than when I get them. I am working towards a new truck someday. Brand new like my Ranger. That new smell is so nice, and you know exactly how the truck was treated.

Sorry to see that massive rust. Not surprised though, that's the reality of living up north. My son's Taco failed inspection last year for the same reason. What do you do with a good running truck with a rotted frame? We're not sure right now....

@mossman381 6 месяцев назад
Yeah, probably a frame swap. I don't have room in the shop for the s10 and the 80 Silverado, so I have to get the Silverado moving on its own.

@@mossman381 leaves me contemplating how I would fix something like that? Pull the cab and sand blast the entire frame? All new steel? Find an S10 frame without rust from AZ or NV? There is no easy way. Please tell me you won’t give up on it. These old 90s mini trucks are getting rare, even here in Salt Lake.
@mossman381
@mossman381 6 месяцев назад
@@rockymtnredneck4888 Finding a good donor frame would be my plan. The box was a good one I found so that's ok. The cab has had most of the rust repaired. I can't see the front of the cab so it might have some hidden rust. Core support could be rusted. Inner fenders will probably break apart when unbolted. Trans support looks just as bad as the frame. I haven't given up on it, but I don't have room in the shop for both trucks, so the 80 Silverado needs to move around on its own. I will keep a lookout for a cheap good frame.

@@mossman381 sweet! Just so long as it isn’t a lost cause. I’m looking forward to the Squarebody, too. Someday I need to repaint my S10 with a more permanent solution. It’s been wearing rattle can Rustoleum for a few years now.

The truck is a lost cause. It was when I got it. The only reason this thing isn't in the scrapyard is because it was my grandpa's last truck.
