Introduction to my project 2001 Land Rover P38a Range Rover 4.6 HSE. I’ve had this for going on 6 months now, bought it with a misfire that eluded me - now solved. Have you ever had a valve spring go full Bluetooth on you? This one did, the exhaust valve on the 4.6L Bosch V8 let go and was causing the misfire and zero compression. This should be a pretty healthy truck once it is fixed, now if I can just find the time to do it.

If there is no compression how are you going to build up air pressure to hold the valve in place? I don't quite see how a broken valve spring would result in no compression unless the valve subsequently bent. I have 2 P38s, both 99 Autobiographies. The recently purchased one had a misfire on cylinder 7 which I fixed by replacing the injector. Had to replace the rear diff as well. Six bolts holding the ring gear in place lost their heads and this was causing a vibration. Very strange. Good luck with yours.

I miss the P38 I sold last year, all Range Rovers should be white

I'd probably have to disagree - they all should be 'racing green' (- just like Jags).

Nice P38! 170k miles? It's probably due for an engine rebuild but it's always tough love for P38s. Being vested on those is an acquired taste.

Previously it had head work done while the head gaskets were done, I know that’s not a complete rebuild but it runs really well!

@@rvarover That's awesome! I find P38s to bring more smiles per gallon than D2s. They're just more comfortable to drive.
