Thanks so much! And amazing to hear you're building one! If you ever should make a video, please link it here! We need more Y6 drones out there for sure! I've just finished building a 2" super micro version of it, video will be coming soon! Next is a 7" version, basically a reliable serious long-rang machine. I haven't been working on a X8 version so far, as my design is heavily influenced by the Shendrones Sicchario - which already is an X8 craft (big kudos to Andy Chen!). However his is a large 8" carrier for professional videocameras and less a funflier, so i might actually go down the X8 route one day as well. Feel free to follow for more unusual drones ;-)

Came across your Reliant frame design on cnc-drones, followed to Thingyverse and then here on YT. Like you am fascinated by the Flywoo Hexplorer and Shen Drones Cinelifter. Taking closer look at Flywoo F745 FC, I noticed it has option to drive 8 motors, so thinking would be possible to use stack that included 2x of 4-n-1 ESC (just need to wire vs pins) Really like how light and stiff your frame appears to have turned out. See in comments you been able to get the Y6 reliant back in the air and are enjoying. Would be nice to hear an update of your thoughts on the design, flight and a review of the project. While it appears to have have met your expectations, would be curious if you would make mods, or do anything different? BTW: Thanks for the great tip on using the power-switch.

Hi there, and sorry for the late reply! I'll be making an update video as soon as spring will hit and it's nice to go out and fly again :-) I'm still flying it the way i built it back then, and it's just perfect as a mid-range cruiser. I'm currently working on a 7" version, after finishing a 2" version just today. Stay tuned!

I built a 5” long range using (Stan FPV 2604 1690kv motors) the flatter wider pancake shaped motors give me long flight times. I’m going for high torque, low rpm. I’m getting 14-15min on a 6s Lipo 1500mah. Then is also can give me crazy power bursts for freestyle if I want. I haven’t tried a Li-ion battery yet.

This was a fun build! I really enjoy flying it and I've gotten nearly 20-minute flight times on 3S 21700 packs. Great for mid-range flying! Thanks for the design and for making it readily available. Have you noticed a tendency for the Y6 pitch to drift upwards during what should be level flight? When my pitch stick is centered, the drone noses up, so I constantly have to apply a little pitch while in flight. Does tuning make this go away at all? I haven't learned how to tune yet, so maybe that's the next step?

@@eyeflytinkerings I have, RPY channels are all at 1500 +/- 2 with neutral sticks. Nobody who's heard all the details has known what to do about it. I wish there was a way to get the flight controller to spin up the rear two motors a little more than they already do during forward flight - that would probably make this issue go away but I have no idea if that's possible. It doesn't seem like it from within BF or Bluejay. Trying to do something like that would probably require digging down into the firmware itself. I don't think I know enough C to confidently do that yet. Even if I have to constantly adjust pitch a little, it's still fun and unique. Hi just wanted to complement you on the y6. I built mine awhile ago and have since helped a few people on discord tune theirs. Harmonics wise it's a very clean frame and as a y6 tunes easily, as a y4 it's a bit harder to tune but has its own character while flying it. Maybe one day you can take the same form factor and make it an x8 mini cinedrone? Just a thought. Thanks so much for taking the time to design such a cool frame.
@eyeflytinkerings
@eyeflytinkerings 2 года назад
Thank you so much for taking your time to comment! It‘s so great to hear that you‘ve not only built one for yourself, but also supported others in building theirs. Sadly there isn‘t any form of backchannel from the Thingiverse/cncdrones side, so i‘m not aware how many people actually built one 😅 feedback like yours really helps motivating me to do videos like these and share the stuff i‘m working on. A x8 version would definitely be an option. I can see it‘s use if you want to carry a heavier camera - is there a specific usecase that you have in mind? Or just in general, as x8 is a fun project? Both are fine, however if there is a specific camera that should be able to fit on it, i‘d love to know before starting the design. What i‘m currently working on is a 2“ version of the frame using 1203.5 motors. This should carry the DJI FPV system and still be able to fly stable and more like a 3-4“ quad.
@RubyS.1
@RubyS.1 2 года назад
@@eyeflytinkerings I will absolutely be building the 2" version. The way the arms come up on the y6 reminds me of skynet from terminator movies honestly the reason I built it was because it looks so strange. You would be really happy with the response I get from your design when I fly the y6 at local ama field everyone loves it even fixed wing LOS guys normally don't care for quads it seems. The X8 for me would be just for fun and I want to see it it will fly 2 motors out. I learned yesterday that the flywoo hex f7 version is actually an f745 and has and arducopter target and the newest release of arducopter is really good. I could just setup waypoints and watch it fly around me :). I been wanting to post a tuning video with the 6 in a 4 motor configuration because it's harder to tune but sound like I hit my head on a rock Everytime I look at a camera. I did make a tiny video but mostly so people will stop asking if I'm actually an old man. I'll stop typing now just super excited to nerd out with someone.
@eyeflytinkerings
@eyeflytinkerings 2 года назад
Indeed the HK-drone from Terminator was my main inspiration. It's great to hear that people at your local field noticed this different looking drone :-) Regarding the X8 - actually even with the Y6 it should still fly with 2 motors out! Except of they are not both on the same arm of course. I haven't played around with Arducopter myself, but i know it's a super versatile system. I planned to check out INAV soon though. Making a video can be quite hard at the beginning. It's the same for every content creator. You never see the many failed takes. Especially getting over the initial blockage in your head is hard. Most times the first recorded snipped is the most difficult ones. I sometimes had over 30 attemps before i was satisfied... while later shots usually just take 1-3 attempts. So don't feel bad - just keep going :-) I'd love to see another video of the Reliant Y6 out there! About the 2" Y6 - i've just uploaded the design on Thingiverse. It's still work in progress. When it's done, i'll send it over to cncdrones as well. Feel free to give it a shot :-) btw: you shouldn't have to do such a video for proofing your person. Just let them trolls be trolls.

@zibingotaeam3716
@zibingotaeam3716 2 года назад
Does it get more efficient if you add stator vanes between the props? Think push/pull on a PC CPU cooler, with a static disks with air flow guide vanes between the props. If that works, you can then use significantly more aggressive pitch on the lower props, as the air already arrives at the airfoil "sped up".
@eyeflytinkerings
@eyeflytinkerings 2 года назад
Hi there! You mean ducts like on Cinewhoops? This would be interesting to test. However a using ducts usually flies very different, i personally never enjoyed these too much. Still, with a Y6 it might be worth a shot for sure :-)
@zibingotaeam3716
@zibingotaeam3716 2 года назад
@@eyeflytinkerings not quite. Have a look at airplane turbines. They gain significant amounts of power and therefore efficiency by using stators, which are like rotors, but stationary between the compressor stages. So the idea would not be to turn your props in to ducted fans, but to just put something that would look a bit like an apple slicer on the arms between the props to guide and straighten the prop wash from the upper prop in to the lower prop, meaning less turbulence for the lower prop and thus more go juice.
@eyeflytinkerings
@eyeflytinkerings 2 года назад
@@zibingotaeam3716 ah, i see what you mean. However i'm not sure how to put that to good use here easily (without being an engineer ;-) )
@zibingotaeam3716
@zibingotaeam3716 2 года назад
@@eyeflytinkerings Yeah, same problem for me. I'd have said print something like 7-9 stators with a 3D-printer and use the arm that the motors are hanging on to make the number even, then surround them with a duct, but that will probably make the drone behave quite weird due to the stators being angled in flight, as well as resistance due to the duct. An engineer's perspective on coaxial would be very helpful. I really like your design btw, Y6 was something I hoped to build and here's yours looking way better than what I came up with in my head. Having the arms angle up to clear the lower props from the ground is inspired. I thought it might look weird but it really doesn't. I'm still in the learning to fly on a sim stage though, so it'll be a while before i'll build a Y6. Mine would probably end up with larger props at lower speeds for even more efficiency, with higher revving and smaller props facing down, but yours seems to be the perfect compromise between portability and endurance.
