Project Shadow: Origin of an Anti-Hero 

Hey there, Creators! Just wanted to clear some things up about this discussion video. I didn’t intend to come off so negative towards the official movies, I’m more so talking about the state of Hollywood writing for movies like this. I do appreciate them for what they are and that they are their own unique canon. I think theres a lot to like about them and they are very entertaining overall. I just personally feel that Sonic movie 3 won’t spend as much time on Shadow’s origin and so I’m lowering my expectations, which is not a bad idea when it comes to movies in general. I hope to be pleasantly surprised and I do believe we should have some faith that they’ll deliver on giving us a good Shadow story. Fun Fact: The Director and Producer of both Sonic Movies(Jeff Fowler and Tim Miller) made the cinematic cutscenes of Shadow The Hedgehog game and 06. Go ahead look it up. Also one of the writers of both Sonic Films (Pat Casey) saw this.

I'm so glad to hear your impressions of Project Shadow. Thank you very much about it it's a honor to somehow be even compared with official multi millionare content and franchises... And don't worry about Sonic 3, I'm pretty sure it will be even way better than Project Shadow was, they know what they need to do and how they need to work on Shadow, of course it's a Sonic movie, so there will be some sense of humour in it, but I'm really confident on what they'll do with Shadow. I loved the first Sonic Movie, I had fun with the second one even though it felt a bit aimed for young audiences at some moments, but overall they're great and they know the responsability they have with Shadow in the third movie, Shadow might be one of the top 3 most popular characters of the franchise so I'm really hyped about it anyway

This movie was such a great way to end 2023, this is the unofficial prelude to Sonic movie 3

While I don't necessarily agree with the idea that the Sonic Movies have no passion behind them, I can say without a doubt that this fan film certainly puts that thought to the test because it was simply brilliant. Like most things I'm sure there's a more nuanced conversation to be had here, but I'm comfortable saying that I simply want more earnest attempts at story telling in this franchise. You can have comedic, serious, and wholesome moments that still respect the franchise. I do want to see what Sonic Movie 3 comes up with.

Project Shadow… is a stark reminder of how the road to oblivion is often paved with good intentions. Professor Gerald Robotnik created Shadow to not only help cure Maria, but to help protect humanity. But unfortunately, GUN only saw Shadow as a weapon, a tool to an end. Project Shadow perfectly encapsulates both the good and bad of humanity. And this fan film perfectly embodies that notion. This fan film reminded me why Shadow is my favorite Sonic character. No one of my favorite characters in fiction ever. Someone who lost everything to humanity yet fights to protect it. Someone who has every right to see the bad in humanity. Yet chooses to fight for the good in it. Someone who fights for what they think is right and never gives up. That is what makes Shadow a hero. And I’m not afraid to say that this fan film made me a little emotional. It’s a shame Shadow is no longer portrayed that way in more recent Sonic related media. Often portrayed as some edgy character who only does things to benefit themself. When in reality, that isn’t who Shadow is. I know the chances of this happening are slim, but I hope someone at SEGA or Sonic Team sees this fan film. And I hope someone on the Sonic Movie staff sees this too.

Only time will tell If Sonic 3 dose It well, I personally have faith In It especially after Sonic 2. I've come to terms that every universe Is different which Is why I'm fine with Boom and the Movies have done well as well but Project Shadow, It.. It actually hurt. Let's see what Sonic Movie 3 has In store

I absolutely agree that Sonic 3 will not be as good as this. I'm happy for its existence but I think we'll be spoiled.

I think we should have a shadow of the hedgehog spin off series to where the original shadow, the hedgehog left off, but introduced characters like eclipse the dark and the dark arms from the Archie Sega has endless possibilities of what to do with shadow. They’re fixing his character in the third movie, and there’s sort of fixing him in sonic prime shadow is becoming popular in 2024 because the year of shadow. It would be cool to see a shadow hedgehog but the original shadow hedgehog the shadow the hedgehog game did not succeed. There’s more characters in the sonic universe. They have spinoff they tried it with tails, knuckles, and shadow it would be cool if they bring spinoffs back, especially for shadow. It would be cool see rouge omega, and shadow. on their own adventures, including GUN missions

Shadow's arc in the Archie Comics is precisely where I want them to go with his character in IDW and the games. He comes completely full circle, and the last we see of him is beginning the journey of overcoming the trauma of everything that happened to him. He doesn't want to go on murderous rampages, he knows exactly what Maria wanted him to do with life, and he has a lot of figuring his own shit out to do before he can even begin with that. He got his closure, and could now start living again. It was, dare I say it, touching.

I will say being a fan of superman, batman, and spiderman it seems for most of entertainment the fans usually do better work than the writers. Though that is based on my personal experience. I will also say the sonic movies are not the best far from it. However, it did introduce many people to Sonic, such as myself. In the end I guess we will have to wait and see how well the next sonic movie does.

Hear me out guys after the sonic movies conclude make a reboot trilogy with shadow as the main character

I think shadows back story in the movie should be kinda like rocket raccoon i Guardians of the galaxy 3, since we only slowly find out shadows entire back story

you talked about the use of black and white in the scene where shadow watches as maria is shot. i wanted to elaborate on that really excellent design choice because this is where shadow starts seeing the world in black and white too, morally. suddenly, there's a clear good and a clear bad, the people who killed maria, humanity, GUN, they are all bad. the red remaining in his eyes and the glowing gold of his chaos inhibitor rings represent his grief, turmoil, rage, and desperation.

I felt the mcu comment 100% they need more movies that are more serious or can balance out the jokes and not overdo it and have it ruin the tone or dilute the plot winter soldier first avenger and black panther 2 are great just because they’re mainly serious and can maintain the tone and tell a good story.shadow was amazing in heroes adventure two and sonic 2006 characterization wise but he was character assassinated in his own game and post 2006 .as a shadow fan I’m only a fan of the three versions of shadow I mentioned.

There's a chance the film writers, after seeing Project Shadow, could take notes about it, maybe even reference it in the film. Either way, this fan film is probably the most passionate and impactful Sonic fan film, or any fan film in general. Here's to hoping the third film can live up to expectations. Let's just hope there's no corporate meddling from behind the scenes which plagues many trilogies.

Guess gun got bored of playing with emeral also was a nice touch of adding black doom at the end the fact the gearald tried to screw over both gun and the black arms all for maria and to give humanity hope

Don't you think your being a tad bit harsh towards the movies. They did Knuckles extreme justice so I have faith in Shadow. The Sonic movie director has got the characters right so far so at least have some sort of hope for the 3rd movie.

Honestly, you captured my feelings about Shadow perfectly. He is a character that is SO important to Sonic fans, and that responsibility may very well crush the director and crew with its expectations. Now, I want to have some faith... but holy hell this fan film was too good. And I mean that with no exaggeration. It IS too good. Because it's things like this that we can now weigh our expectations with. Sonic 3 may very well understand the assignment, but if it falters even a little, we are GOING to notice.

2023 was amazing, yesterday we finally got Sonic The Warth of Nazo (nazo unleashed sequel by Chakra-x) and PROJECT SHADOW by a whole studio!! it looks beautiful.. truly the best year for sonic fans

The lipsync problem is because the original lenguage of this fanfilm is Brazilian PORTUGUESE, sometimes lipsync problems to the translation to another lenguage happens, also João Filipe confirmed Spanish dub of the fanfilm

I disagree with your idea of that the third movie won't be as good as this fanmade film and will be too full of jokes instead of seriousness, because the director of the Sonic movies, (Jeff Fowler,) is a major fan of Shadow and he also worked on the CG opening cutscene of Shadow's spin-off game, so he will more likely want to make sure that Shadow will be done correctly in the Sonic 3 movie, instead of having him be a messed up character in it. Just keep that in your mind, because I don't think that you and other people who are fans of the Ultimate Life Form, (including me,) will be dissapointed about that emotionally sympathetic character when Sonic 3 gets it's theatrical release next year. I watched this fanmade short and became quite impressed with it, because the quality of it makes it look almost as if Paramount had made it!

I will not be surprised if the production companies like WB, Paramount etc will go out of business in the future soon.

I definitely do NOT believe that Hollywood is “ashamed” of the Sonic movies. They’re great. That’s why people like them. I think you’ve already set yourself up to not like the next movie. It’s going to happen because you have it in your head that it’s going to suck… therefore it will… for you.

If you really love this fan maybe film, then why was there a note that saids on the picture of your video "This should not exist"? Are you referring the "this should not exist" to the Sonic film franchise? I'm sorry I'm just confused I really enjoy this short despite it being fan made I feel for Shadow and what he went through with that tragedy of loosing Maria I bet this will be much better than the third movie I used to like the franchise and I'm like you where I'm guessing it might not be good due to putting too much fillers in these films (like original humans that are unnecessary nor important, the stupid wedding stuff that have nothing to do with the Sonic stories, cringy jokes for children to laugh at like fart jokes, characters flossing etc.) and I'm concern about what they're going to do with Shadow's character and worried if they're going to screw up his tragic backstory and have the characters understand why he is the way he is This is an incredible short fan made film that it should get so much attention! 10/10 stars!

Its sad how people cry rivers of tears for what Shadow went through even understanding why he turned out the way he did and there's like a million fanfics, fan animation and fan art about his time on the Ark with Maria, yet barely anybody gives a s**t about what Drago Bludvist from How To Train Your Dragon 2 went through. Even though he was just an innocent child and there's like zero fan stuff depicting his past when he was a child and before his entire village got burned and massacred by dragons (and ripped off his arm) and is just brushed off like he was evil from the very start and all who died in his village are not important/worth talking about😞

I’m take it you’re not thrilled about sonic the hedgehog 3. Because it’s not gonna be serious and bleak. Just like the comparisons of Godzilla Minus one& GXK in 2024😒.

I don’t agree with you on the sonic movie you have to remember that sonic movies are more for a kids audience but the sonic movies are still good
