I think a good video cannot be ''too long''. It's more about density than it is about lenght, for example I regularly find myself fastforwarding 13min videos because they just talk about unrelevent topics. However I'm 40 minutes into this video and I haven't felt bored for a single second. this is great really, keep it up !

I love how he's holding the turbo manifold like it's his child.....because, well, in a way it is! Anyway, I think a Garrett GT2560R would be the PERFECT turbo for that engine.

Not bad but he has tubular manifold so he will rev and maybe something that has more leaned graph, if he takes EFR 6758 (or similar) it will be in sweet spot at 6 to 6,5k RPM. EFRs spools quite fast, can take some beating, and makes a lot of turbo noise :)

Yes, 1 hour of 4A and MR2 content :D Looks like I was very lucky when I bought my oversize GZE pistons last year from MRP and still got OEM piston rings. Also you can get OEM oil pump for cheap from Aisin (OPT-036) which is 100% identical to the later GE oil pumps, except that they have the Toyota logo machined away ;)

Your 321 stainless turbo exhaust manifold is a work of art!!! 👍😎. My name is Arnie K and I used to build Unlimited Heavy SuperStock Triple turbo intercooled pulling tractors and I was running up to 1400 degree exhaust temperatures and 90lbs of boost pressure and 90lbs of exhaust pressure. Due to the extra cost of 321 over 304 my partner ordered 304 2.375 180 degree U bends from Burns Stainless because they were half the price. Well I'm the one who did all the fabrication, cutting and fitting before I purged and tig welded all the joints. It takes me two weeks to create a beautiful manifold like you have and that's working 13 hours a day 7 days a week. I will verify that what you have said about 321 being a superior material to use . I was so angry when I started seeing cracks developing on the 304 material thinking even if 321 cost 4 times as much , I would still use it because building a exhaust manifold is very hard work .

Cryo-stress relief the piston head, conrods bolts and valve train, brake rotors. Arrow Cryogenics in Minnesota does it by the pound. You can get it single cycle cryogenic frozen (way cheaper) or multi cycled. Single cycled gives you 70% of the total strength benefit increase. In high carbon steels it increases hardness (micro surface smoothness) 15-25%. Overall strength by 5-12%. Welded joints by 7-18%. I used this company on bicycles parts and car parts. Everything runs smooth. 👍

Nice! I’m doing basically the same kind of build with a 58 VW Beetle. A lesser used type air cooled VW boxer, custom supercharged, Megasquirt EFI.... We have almost all the same obstacles. I literally have to make and do everything and have similar knowledge of my car. Good thing I’ve owned it for 20 years. I AM jealous of your ability to get original parts at a dealer, VW does not support the aircooled cars at all. I am fortunate enough to have metal fab experience, a MIG, TIG welder, etc. I think that would be a great next step for you. I like your project and ideas!

Ah one thing I just remembered is that you need to put a second breather port on the other cam cover for crankcase ventilation after about 230 hp (boosted) on the 4ages, very common for people turboing 4agze's to put dual oil cap covers on their engine for a cheap port, but you can weld a bung on as well.

That manifold is a masterpiece, this video was amazing unscripted and raw you can hear the excitement in your voice - absolutely love it. Amazing you have the disease to push the limits, to teach yourself and to research and conquer, I did an engine swap in a Peugeot 106, 3 engines into one, one for the block one for the head and one for the inlet manifold, took me hours and hours to complete it and many many late nights trying to work out what parts to use and modify plus the wiring to get it running but when it do oh boy was it worth it also did a quaife gearset and LSD myself all self taught and it is now a track day weapon and a half, when I blast past a fast bought for cash car I think - I`ve made this by myself gives you so much satisfaction and pleasure - good luck can`t wait to see the next video.

Eastern Europe? I thought your accent was from a couple of Philadelphia neighborhoods I remember! As much as I have come to wait your "regularly scheduled" and scripted "learn-ums", this one about your personal car passion project really brought you into focus as a real , to the bone, "car guy" rather than a mere technician with a great delivery technique. In spite of much trying and gnashing of teeth, your mother failed to keep you from those early experiences getting grease under your fingernails- and the disease progressed from there. Being a fellow sufferer, I feel your pain! You have also left me on the floor, risking injury, behind your occasional non sequiturs. Being from Eastern Europe certainly helps explain the different view points at times! Stay healthy, do this as your passion tells you- just bring that and the knowledge you use in pursuit of that passion and I, for one, will be here- I haven't fallen out of my chair this week anyway! Good luck working with AEM. I live in Southern California only 30 miles from AEM. Their tech support is terrible as is the quality of their ECU. We Sent the ECU back 3 times trying to solve programing problems. Invested 50 hours labor and several dyno runs. Since AEM would not refund my money I Finally gave up and just sold the last ECU they sent me on Ebay and went with another company. Their ECU was much simpler to wire up to my 4AGE race engine and the engine started right up and was easy to program on the dyno. The AEM coils are nothing special, many companies offer identical units. Be aware -AEM tech support was a different guy every week and manufacturing quality control is no longer a priority of the company that owns them. Love your videos and MRP components are the absolute best I have found. Highly recommend them as a supplier.

Great to see this project moving forward. The goal to build a balanced car rather than a chasing the maximum power output is interesting too. This build is pretty thought and should bring a nice result. The "monsters" coil near plugs you selected are a bit overkill for that build and metal clutches are usually lacking progressive slip zone but everything should work pretty good. Interesting too that you bring CAN bus in that aw11 mr2. Most of people fear that technologies (and I understand them, oem CAN bus implementations can be tricky and/or insufficiently documented). AEM infinity 5 looks a very good and complete ECU. Do you think to bring e85/flexFuel capability to that engine? The fuel pump you selected is suited for this alcohol fuel and that could help to keep the enginevore knock monster away. All the way, I will follow this project with much interest.

Always love your videos explaining the technical side of this hobby. May I ask why did you go with a turbo 4afe instead of turboing a 4/5/7age or maybe supercharging it?

He went into this in an older video. I forget how long ago that was (and why), but yes, he did explain why.

Here's the first vid where I touched up on that: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QOxfzaX4QCY.html Here's a more in-depth look at the 4age vs 4afe heads: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ea5G0Jnvum0.html Basically the 4afe has a more modern intake port design which should translate into better performance especially at low and mid-rpms which are very important in the real world. There are some drawbacks of course but it's not major. I also like trying something new and the G engines have been done to death. I like a good underdog and I'm also hoping some new and interesting lessons can be learned by building an engine that's unexplored compared to the 4AGE. I also want to show what the right parts and good tuning can achieve, even with something that's considered an inferior economy head. If I'm successful I'll also give some value to the 4afe head which is dramatically cheaper and more plentiful compared to the 4age which should hopefully benefit the community as a whole.

This was a cool video. If you want to increase the production value you could use the ifixit perspective, camera looking down on work surface on which you unbox. It would be a good perspective for the wiring harness video too.

If you are running on track then use a mix of aviation fuel 3 to 1 with regular petrol, I have done hundreds of laps in my 4age NA on track with no problems and you will never go back to regular petrol such is the performance on aviation fuel.

For the intercooler, how about mounting it between the bonnet and the engine and making a hood scoop, like the subaru wrx, so you can get cold air from outside the engine bay? I always thought that was a nice idea.
