A great summary of the madness some of us are afflicted with! Your videos have helped inspire me to do some of the mods, including the centre console delete (love it) and changing the exhaust (stock is just too quiet), and the Continental radio is in my plans. I've also done the RSS semisolid engine mounts and that's the one mod I'm less happy with -- there's some noticeable NVH around 2800-3000rpm that's not an issue on a good drive but annoying for everyday use. Thanks for the update and hope to see more videos soon
@TheThrottleCable
@TheThrottleCable 2 года назад
Indeed, you might call such an affliction a ‘problem’! Interesting feedback on the RSS mounts, it’s the first time I’ve heard of that kind of invasive NVH into the cabin. They didn’t add any noticeable NVH to mine. Perhaps they’ll settle over time?

Great video! A 996 in white is awesome! Always nice to hear what’s in other Porsche fans minds 😅 Got a C2 3.6 manual myself since a month. I am trying hard not to indulge myself in too many mods. Planning to keep it original, besides the Ohlins r/t installed that made a great car totally amazing😊 Totally agree with keeping the brakes quite stock will suffice even on track. Put on race/sports pads and racing fluid and u r good to go. Tracked my previous Cayman S several times and proper brake skills out do bigger brakes any day.

Great video. You so remind me of myself with my car addiction! I am in New Hampshire USA. I have a 2005 996 c4s. Your car looks great and you are very tasteful with your modifications. Nicely done! I think I will go for the custom wheels at some point. I don't mean to be one of those that tells people they do things wrong just wanted to tell you about the solid engine mounts. Lots swear by those so I am sure they improve the car. In the us we have flat 6 innovations who is like Hartech, top knotchengine builders. They have videos that show a car dyno runs before and after solid engine mounts and you can see how it robs power at the higher revs from the timing reduction. I can share the video if you would like to see. Doesn't matter though. If you like them that is all that matters! I am actually getting my motor built this winter by flat 6 to a 4.0L. They do head work balancing and lots more. Point being, I know all about spending lots on mods! Keep up the great videos and good work! Take care.
@TheThrottleCable
@TheThrottleCable 2 года назад
Hey Rick, my first 996 was a 2003 C4S in seal grey - great machine - my uncle still has that car. I think I've seen that video and personally i was sceptical as i beleive the car wasn't running a stock engine and it wasnt on a stock map, as mine is. So the jury is out on that. However I do subscribe to the reality that every change is a comporomise with +ives and -ives attached to it. The positive of semi-solids for street driving for me seems to be huge in terms driving enjoyment, so as you say it is a personal choice. Perhaps i need to get mine on a dyno?!
@RicknWRX
@RicknWRX 2 года назад
@@TheThrottleCable hey that would be good content for the channel! Flat 6 innovations in the US is the company that everyone looks to, they know the most about these motors in the US. Jake their owner will not let a customer buy one of his motors and put on a car with semi solid mounts. He will not allow his motor to be robbed of power from anything. He won't let people use aftermarket intakes either as they all rob power as well. I trust this guy because he really knows these cars. I think that is a great idea though, take your car to a dyno and run back to back runs with and without the semi solids! I would love to see that! Hey enjoy the car, you built a beautiful car.
@adriangale
@adriangale 2 года назад
@@RicknWRX it is an interesting debate. It is quite easy to determine for yourself what’s actually going on, on road, with Durametric, (or similar equipment) both with timing and intake air temps. Guys have shown that the semi solid mounts don’t retard timing, and that intake temps don’t increase with a K&N intake and that more air is flowing past the MAF. A 911 on a dyno isn’t getting appropriate air flow so intake temps rise in that environment with the K&N. For me personally a tactile and visceral experience is paramount in a sports car, and was definitely worth the extra research.
@RicknWRX
@RicknWRX 2 года назад
@@adriangale I agree with you, good point on the dyno testing. Regardless though, with the exhaust where it is having an open filter without an air box cant be too good. Apparently the 997 3.8 air box with a k&n drop in is the best. Works good for me as I have a gt2 wing. It has Air inlet that channels air into the snorkel from outside the car. I
@RicknWRX
@RicknWRX 2 года назад
@@adriangale I so wanted to get the semi solids but flat 6 innovations won't let me with their motor so u went with new oem. I will be getting my power from the motor build so I am happy there. There is so much conflicting information on all this out there for sure!

Hi Rob, good to see you’re back fella 👍 What’s your viewpoint on the short shift kits available? There’s your run of the mill £70 versions in the blue anodised finish ( not that you see that!) and then the Numex I think it is, replacement mech for about £500 You seem to have good opinions on the rest of the car, so I’m interested in your perspective chap please
@TheThrottleCable
@TheThrottleCable 2 года назад
Thanks Dave, the biggest improvement to the shift has been from the RSS mounts, i'd do motor mounts first if you haven’t as it really improves the precision. For mine with the Rennline gear knob you can actually adjust the shift knob height, so that allowed me to shorten the throw by setting it low reducing the leverage. If I didn’t have those, the magpie effect would have me looking at the numeric or coolerworx - things of beauty. Then you’re down a rabbit hole and thinking of changing the cables too. The ebay specials seem to get mixed reviews, I’ve not had a go with one, however bang for buck I think it might be worth a go if short shift is what you want to achieve. I also believe there is a chap on the 911uk.com website who improves them with new bushings which is worth a look. You might also be able to pick up a used 997 shorter throw linkage off ebay - also worth considering.

One correction on the above - the other shifter brand is CAE not Coolerworx (Coolerworx do great shifters too, just not for Porsche right now!)
