great vid, the calliper bolt is a red herring, the stresses are more around a possible shear. I've replaced once as I had threaded due to the bolts seizing. Apart from that I reuse. great idea on the sensor delete...total pain in the a22 with false wear alarms

Next video needs to be a calliper re-spray by the looks of it 😉 Nice video, interested to see how you get on with the slotted disks!

Haha you’re not wrong! They actually look worse on camera as the lacquer has gone ☺️

@@TheThrottleCable do you keep track of the overall weight reduction of the car so far? Did you weigh it?
@TheThrottleCable
@TheThrottleCable 3 года назад
Yes I’m the description of each video I tend to put the weights; the discs and pads I can’t really compare as the old stuff is worn. I’ll do a review video soon to bring all things considered into one overview.

@@TheThrottleCable forgot to tag you in order to see that you have a reply :)) Are the Sebro rotors with the xp8s a good match? No squealing and eating away the rotors?
@TheThrottleCable
@TheThrottleCable 2 года назад
Hi @@ferencmihala5346 they work fantastically well together and the stopping power is awesome. The rotor wear seems normal, but I would need to drive more miles to confirm just how good it is. HOWEVER, they do squeal a lot, like a race car, even with ceratec brake lube. 😁

I recently had new discs and pads all round I also wanted only slotted and not drilled and slotted but couldn’t find slotted only. Would say you should advise anyone undertaking this to thoroughly clean the disc faces with brake cleaner before assembly and again afterwards. Have watched all your videos like the way you work patient and well organised.
@TheThrottleCable
@TheThrottleCable 3 года назад
Thank you Keith; yes these Sebro's are surprisingly hard to come by - i think the average Porsche owner just wants drilled discs and nothing else. Good point about the cleaner, I've bought Pagid discs before and they come with a thin layer of grease coat to stop corrosion and require a good clean up. Interesting is that these Serbos are coated and thus don't come with any grease coat and just need a quick wipe over :)

@@TheThrottleCable The one time I had discs that were coated like that I thought something seriously the burning smell on the first drive I thought they would catch 🔥

I bought them from type911shop.co.uk; now that they have bedded in they are absolutely brilliant! Thanks for posting. Any documentation on the "newer" pad shape that you use on the front axle? Would you simply search for a 997-gen front fitment?
@TheThrottleCable
@TheThrottleCable 3 года назад
sure; remember if you use the later pads you need the correct retaining clip, and if you do use brake pad sensors the horse shoe style sensors. this is the 996 style www.heritagepartscentre.com/uk/99635294903-brake-pad-set-front-or-rear.html this is the 997 style www.heritagepartscentre.com/uk/99735193906-brake-pad-set-front-or-rear.html
@DJLoDY

What is the advantage of the later pad over the earlier one if everything else in the setup is the same?
@TheThrottleCable
@TheThrottleCable 3 года назад
Pad area is exactly the same size, so no gain in stopping power. Main advantage is availability and pricing, as I wanted better pad compounds over stock. The backing plate of the newer style is more refined and their retaining clips are smaller so actually uses less metal - you could argue you lose some weight but this would only be by some grams!

If you're looking for part codes you just need to reference them from the Porsche 996 PET catalogue - here is a link www.porsche.com/all/media/pdf/originalparts/usa/996_USA_KATALOG.pdf

Working on a jacked up car without axel stands is not a good idea. Working on my mini metro at the side of the road on the car jack the car moved and start to fall off the jack luckly I saw it sart to move and dispite lying under it luckly managed to pushed the car back before it went passed the point of no return and fell on me. I had to stay holding it until I called a passing neighboor and he held the car until I got from under it. I was very lucky.

@TheThrottleCable 3 года назад
I completely agree - that does not sound like fun! Here I have the car on 4x axle stands at the jacking points plus 2x extra jacks front and rear to prevent any tipping 👍
