I'd call that a result. Good luck on the MOT!🏁

Well done, not the easy thing to do outside in all weather's, but you got there in the end. I have owed an mgf for the last fourteen years and had my up and down with it but at the end of the day they are good fun cars to drive keep up with the videos looking forward to you getting an mot.

Yep the weather has been shocking.... I really enjoy making the videos, and can't wait to get out there driving her. Cheers 👍

As a rank amateur regarding welding, I wondered if it was the windy conditions blowing away your shielding gas that was the main problem. The weather really hasn't helped this project but glad you're sticking with it. They are great little cars, specially the 160 when you get it pushing through 4k rpm.

Thanks, the weather has been total pants since I got this car. I look forward to some warm days, top down and some spirited driving!!!

Came here to say the same thing. I used to have this issue and making sure there was no draughts sorted it. The other thing that might have helped is the get the metal a bit cleaner with a stainless wire brush and some isopropyl alcohol, just helps. Those pits hold all sorts of c**p that makes life harder. Final thing is making sure it isn't a sealed volume, the hot air expanding can blow holes out where you are welding if it is a closing weld, but I doubt this was air tight.

Nice work, once you get the MOT you can get out and use it a bit now! Mine has some scabby bits on the sills and arches, but only bought it a few weeks ago so intend to use and enjoy it a bit before the MOT in July. I think you said you were in the West Midlands, maybe take yours to 'Pride of Longbridge' in April? I can't make it this year but been before and it's quite cool to see all the MG Rover stuff there.

Real lmpressed by your can do attitude. A lot of people would of panicked when they started to blow through but ýou stuck to your task and it doesn't look top shabby😊😊

Thanks Paul, thanks for the comments. I like the challenge of figuring things out. No point panicking, it's only a car after all, and an old one at that. 😀

Great result. If you do any more welding and encounter similar holes from blowing through, you can put a bit of welding wire in the hole so it acts as a 'bridge' then weld over it in quick bursts.

Thanks for the tip.... likely this car will need more welding.

Some years ago, when I had an Opal Manta, and then a Mk1 MR2 I needed some welding doing on those cars. The Manta needed a new wing putting on the back after an idiot crashed into me. And the MR2 had a custom body kit fitted and I had some welding done on a rust bubble on the front wing, cut out and patched and new arches put in the read. Same rust problems you have. And my friend who did the work, always used GAS welding and torches for the body work. As it was not as hot. Almost like soldering. The Electric Arc welding was for structural and heavy use only. So this guy could finesse and weld delicate thin panels and so on without needing to grind a lot back or melt holes in the thinner steel. The draw back was you needed the gas bottles etc. And it was more work to set up and look after...

Thanks Simon, I think im going to try running flux core through my MIG machine and see what that's like. Cheers. 👍

Great repair, never easy to weld into very thin metal!! Looks good to me!

Thanks for the nice comment, and yep thin metal is difficult.... at least that's my excuse anyway. 👍

Cracking DIY repair mate....don't worry about the paint, it's all about the MOT. You can get cabin fever trying to get a match on grey/silver paint repairs. That part of the car is so low down it won't catch your eyeline

Thanks for the nice feedback... 😀😀😀 It'll do for now, and I don't think anyone else would really notice but I want it proper finished after all that work. 😉

Great video. Try using trimix welding gas, it helps gives better welds than CO2. Flux-core will give messier welds, more grinding with the flapper disc. The blow-through may be due to not being able to adjust the welder's power/speed down enough for the thin metal.

Thats a bloody good repair well done, when car is mot'd take it to paint shop, that has a spectrometer to match the paint, they should be able to supply in rattle cans.No gas mig welders are always a bit blobby and more burn through, dont have the torch so close to the body when welding and it will build up metal.Well done again..

Cheers buddy, it's nice to get some positive feedback. 😀😀 That's my plan, get it scanned and get half a litre. I can do others areas then. 👍

If you need to do anymore welding buy yourself a roll of fluxcore wire as it doesn’t require gas and far easier for outdoor use. You can even buy a roll from Lidl at the moment for about £6 👍. I’ve used it to good effect on outside diy projects, just practice on some scrap metal first to get your settings dialled in.

@Exhausted-autos Hi i was just reading my sensors on my mg tf with torque app and my fuel trim sensor 2 was waiting for data all others were working fine can you check yours to see if you get a reading i just set a line gauge and select fuel trim sensor 2 instead of that recording data alot easier and dosnt need parameters
