Well just how everyone was praising Devons training and only seeing the value it provides when he was constantly winning, now people attempt to ratioanlize and underatand his loss and in that process they look towards his training as well. A loss makes you potent for ridicule and critizism (not just from other parties, but also from yourself) and in rationalizing that loss we further ourselves from the mentality that the ends solely justify the means so we can ask more fundamental question that allow us to find the answers we seek. Devons training was effective, no doubt, but it (like every training programm) can be optimized. Nothing is perfect, and those imperfections, a priorly unwalked path, become the main ground for reason.

@rattotakki
@rattotakki 19 дней назад
It's much simpler to explain. All the strenght comes from the backpressure. However, pronation is important because during the backpressure movement, if you lose pronation, then you can't apply the backpressure properly. In other words your backpressure is almost useless if your pronation is weak. The same apply for rising, if you loose riser it's much more difficult to apply backpressure

I don't disagree with your analysis method, but it's hard to agree with your conclusion that pronation is only 10% of the game. Devon Larrat is arguably the #2 superheavy weight in the world. It can't be ignored that Devon absolutely has pretty high backpressure, but not compared to the other superheavy weights. The mix is probably closer to an 80/20 split, if not more. If your pronation is developed enough, like in Devon's case, I think it's fair to say it's closer to 70/30 or even 60/40. I think it's probably better to argue that developing world-class pronation is much more difficult than developing world-class backpressure, and so focusing your efforts on backpressure is going to get you more results than focusing on your pronation. I would say develop your backpressure and when you're clearly starting to hit your limit on it, start focusing on maintaining that number while developing pronation. It *clearly* has an impact, even at the highest level of the sport.
@PerformanceEnhancingPancakes
@PerformanceEnhancingPancakes 19 дней назад
I think that may have more to do with the style. Devon isn't getting hooked by anyone, but neither is Ermes or Levan or Vitaly etc. Devon is beating people through height and his great setup most of the time, so I think it's kinda a different thing.
@LordofTheFallen
@LordofTheFallen 19 дней назад
It's weird that you didn't show the rest of the Bob Brown clip where he actually talks about pronation. The clip you showed was how essentially some guy who's strong enough can blow through an opponent even after losing his wrist and everything else, like Levan can, but that isn't the case for most armwrestlers. Bob Brown said that back pressure is how you break your opponent's form and pin them and pronation is how you prevent your opponents back pressure from breaking your form.

@RDS_Armwrestling 18 дней назад
There are 2 separate muscles that pronate the forearm, AND the brachioradialis assists in pronation, supination, and elbow flexion. They're all small muscles really, armwrestling is, mostly, a small muscle sport.

@ArmwrestlingAcademia
@ArmwrestlingAcademia 19 дней назад
My thought is that pronation becomes more useful/dangerous the larger the hand is (Or the relative position of the hand in the other hand, aka how deep the fingers cover). If you have a larger hand that dwarfs the opponent, a little pronation is going to be magnified across/around theirs. If you have a smaller hand, you're probably going to be pronating into the palm of their hand more than against their fingers. So, train both unless you are a freak on either end.

I tell everybody arm wrestling is like fishing. It's all about timing. Pull it too late you lose your bait pull it too soon you steal the hook away. Any move in arm wrestling takes precise timing and adapting to what your opponent is doing to combat your movements. Otherwise you're going to be stuck one way or another.

The pronator is a small muscle, but it is also acting on a much shorter lever arm. Just feeling the pressure I can put on my thumb through pronating and through back pressure, I don't think it's anywhere close to 90-10. 70-30 maybe.

@RDS_Armwrestling
@RDS_Armwrestling 18 дней назад
Rising helps keep the other toproll muscles engaged. If you lose your riser, the opponent will likely be further down your fingers so it's harder for you to access your power and they're putting more pressure further from your arm. Low hand toproll like Vitaly and Matt Mask is attacking the small fingers of the opponent, which is hard to defend if you don't know how to. They likely still have strong riser muscles etc because to pull with a dumped riser puts even more pressure on the wrist.

I really think that pronation is important. But I think most people dont really train it right. Also there has to be a goal, pronation gives you the strength to stay out of someone cupping you in. So if your trying to beat another Toproller then having better pronation wont really help you. Now if your trying to beat someone thats attacking with an outside move you have to analyze their style and go from there. There are a few avenues such as having a good flop press, or supinated press, having a strong high hook, or just being able to have a larger gap in arm strength than they have. There are a lot of ways to defeat someone but honestly you need to have a strong bicep, strong triceps, and a strong overall hand strength. Hand strength has a diminishing return while arm strength for the most part does not, it's always usefull. You have to balance your limitations and focus on realistic ways to train and grow. Strength = Better, Experience = Better, It's that simple lets get stronger!

From so much DAMAGE to his elbow, he needed to build the muscle AROUND it for protection and as a REPLACEMENT for a BAD ELBOW. I am just saying MY OPINION THATS ALL! The fact that Devon is the ONLY Arm Wrestler in the sport that DONT lift weights?????? I REALLY BELIEVE that Devon has more going on with his health than he's putting out!? I believe there is something PREVENTING him from lifting?? I KNOW Devon would lift weights IF he could. He doesn't RUN or anything for training( as far as I know of ?) Devon has been putting ALL of his training in ONE ARM for years? I don't think he has a choice? Something is MISSING from the Devon puzzle. And I can't figure it out!?😢

Now that you say this I think it totally depends on ONE THING. Do you have long arms or short arms? Personally I have long arms. I can probate 105lbs. But I can only rise around 60lbs. I bet for short armed people it’s the opposite. I don’t arm wrestle but I do the training because it’s fun & enjoyable. But yes. Out of these two lifts my pronation is definitely a good bit stronger.

If there is even a bit of truth in the back pressure>90/pronation
@DylanFowler

I think back pressure, through active and static pressure, is slightly more important than Pronation.
@jakegalgon4265
@jakegalgon4265 13 дней назад
Posting toproll out of the straps back pressure is much more important. Dragging toproll / king's move in the straps pronation is much more important. If you need to convince yourself that pronation matters, consider: with back pressure but no cup, pronation or side pressure a pin is almost impossible. A pin with only back pressure and pronation is realistic

The arm in arm wrestling matters more than anything
@RDS_Armwrestling
@RDS_Armwrestling 18 дней назад
If you lose the hand, you need a hell of a lot of arm to save you, since your power is usually cut off. If your hand is stronger than your arm, you may open your elbow angle, but you may still be in the fight.

@@RDS_Armwrestlingfair but you can either be hand dominant or arm dominant the techniques you'll have to use are different in some aspects but you can be just as successful if not more successful using one over the other, depends on your lever length and stuff

Why did Devon beat Ermes though, it can’t just be the setup, since they then practice pulled and the same thing happened, just the leverage?

So what seems to be the reason behind ermes losing to devon with all that back pressure?
@shakya00
@shakya00 14 дней назад
That's why Ermes destroyed Devon's pronation, cup and won....oh wait ;) I think you are half right in reality. Back pressure involves more muscles than pronation, it is stronger. But we are as strong as our weakest link. My 2 cents is that as both are used in combo for toproll and as the pronation is weaker, this muscle is the limiting factor. That's why on Devon lift that combines both back pressure and pronation, Devon does lift more than Ermes despite having a weaker back pressure, because pronation fails first.

Not to disagree with a world champ but nah, backpressure isnt the determining factor in a toproll battle its rising and pronation. Vs a hook yes you need more backpressure than their cup.
@RDS_Armwrestling
@RDS_Armwrestling 18 дней назад
OK try to toproll without going backwards or using any elbow flexion and see what happens. Unless you're much stronger than your opponent, you'll lose elbow angle and regret not going backwards.

It's definitely not 90-10 as you claim. More likely 70-30. Ermes has the strongest back pressure, took Devon's riser, and still couldn't compromise his cup. Georgi's back pressure is 30% weaker and he was able to compromise Devon's cup. There shouldn't be such contradictory examples between such massive back pressure gap if pronation only accounted for 10%.

You must be able to maintain your wrist and pronation while applying backpressure. Otherwise you just open yourself up. It’s not dynamically pronating it’s maintaining it. Mindaugus’s pronation was HIGHLY ACTIVE against Daniel. lol.

Devon lost to Levan because just was not strong enough. He weighed about 260 and just lacked overall strength in his bicep, shoulder, lat, and pec. You can't win against Levan with all hand and wrist. His stupid strategy failed like we all knew it would.
