Very excited to review and test this Proof Research 6mm ARC Barrel. This particular one is carbon fiber wrapped, 18 inches with a 1:7.5 Twist. We are taking it out this week to see how it performs in both accuracy and FPS. As part of the Snipers Unknown Competition, I am hoping this package does well.

I lap barrels for Proof. I love working for this company because I know I am a part of something special doing something nobody else does. The 6mm ARC is a big deal. We've been making a lot of them. If you spend the money on a Proof barrel, you get it in whatever length you want. You can choose from between more than two lengths. We use acetone to clean the bores after lapping. Hope she shoots as well as she looks!

I just bought the San Tan 6mm ARC rifle with the proof barrel. Can't freaking wait. Do you know the outer diameter measurement of the barrel at the muzzle end? I'm suppressor shopping and need to know how much room I have for a reflex mount.

Very important observation, I'm going through that right now with ADM and a criterion barrel that won't shoot 2 inches with all match ammo. The gas hole is drilled through a land and groove and it coppers up heavily. Waiting for a response from them for awhile now.

There are some relatively known barrel mfg'r out there that do not realize how important timing the gas port penetration is to the continuity of the rifling. If you cannot time the gas port penetration into the barrel based on 5R, 4R 6R etc., the position of the barrel nut to the upper, the pitch of the rifling, then you should get out of the gas gun business. Up to now the .mil technical package from Colt, and FN was copied, to make it happen.

@@blazerk9614 I just sent criterion my barrel and upper components because their barrel wasn’t shooting any better than 2” at 100 yards at best. 3 1/2” groups at worst. It’s my 6th AR build so I’m not new to building either. I’m getting better accuracy out of my 11.85” pws barrel.

That’s the first spot of major wear and it’s a VERY important detail for longevity of the barrel and for accuracy.

That's great CNC tool timing to locate the gas port between riflings like that. It has to help. I don't have a bore scope, but a method I use for bench testing/verification that my g block is in sync with the barrel port involves my air compressor. I jam a rubber cork in the chamber , and wedge it in place with a piece of wood thru the ejection port. Then I have a small valve with a hose Barb in one end, and a male Milton fitting on the other end, to quick couple to my air hose. I put a piece of automotive fuel line on the barb, small hose clamp it, then hose clamp the remaining fuel hose end to my threaded muzzle. Then apply some air with the valve, and rock and eyeball the gas block, listening for any changes in the air hissing sound I also modified a handguard cap, to maintain the .035" gap that most g blocks expect the Gunsmith to hold...even on float guard builds. I hacksawed an opening ( it looks like PacMan ) into the handguard cap, so I can remove it, without disturbing my setting. I used carbide CNC Spotting Drills to dimple for g block set screws...using the the g block as a drilling template. For 8-32 set screws I use a 4mm x 120 degree Spotting Drill and for 10-32 set screws I use the 3/16"" x 120 degree size. I use a cordless drill. Drill just enough to dimple, blow out the the metal chips out of the tapped set screw hole. Add set screw and tork. Oh ya, forgot to mention. I clamp the gas block with one set screw installed in one of the undimpled holes, firstly, then, drill the other, add set screw to the dimpled, then remove the 'clamp duty' set screw and finish dimpling that one. I have never had a re-do, using this way of means. This isn't anything you need to know, or implement, KB, maybe some other peeps could benefit from the tips.

That barrel looks so good in comparison to ALL the other barrels You have scoped it makes the others look like an “after” picture of a gun that was ridden hard and put up in a swamp. Yeah I’m saying it’s gorgeous. I’m trying to keep up with a couple builds at one time but barrel is gonna bust the budget I’m afraid. I will see if I can get to that barrel, I just know a lot of other stuff is going on hold while pinch those pennies dam near in half. Keep up what You do because You aren’t skipping over some very important things! Some videos gloss over it like “We are running this (you guess why) and that is all we are telling You about that. I'm interested in getting a very accurate AR barrel and thanks to your videos I've learned quite a bit. The Proof Research quality and performance looks to be impressive, I'm seriously considering getting one in Wylde. I think I would be happy with a much lower cost heavy fluted Faxon barrel, but lead time on getting one is up to a year. I can immediately get a Proof Research barrel on Gunbroker.

I didn’t realize how important the fitment between the upper receiver and barrel extension were until recently. I DO NOT like the idea of loctite. So I now use stainless steel shim stock to tighten the fit and I hammer the barrel in. You can still use loctite but I don’t like the idea of never removing it or ruining your receiver if doing a barrel swap.

I have three Proof barrels in 223 Wylde. Coincidentally, one has the gas port centered in a groove, one bridges between a land and groove, and the other is centered right on a land. I think it's just a matter of chance. Personally, I can't tell any difference in accuracy, cleaning, or anything else.

@TheAdam2877 3 года назад
As long as the flash hider is pinned and welded to the barrel and its not classified as a pistol or other, meaning it didn't start out with a pistol brace if you bought it from the store factory assembled. In most states the answer would be yes. However, you may want to check your local laws.

18" long enough for long range shooting?
@seanwhite304
@seanwhite304 3 года назад
For the 6arc it performs very well with any BARREL length . The 18" is mire popular because that's what the Military contract is for . Plus the 18" it a good size to still keep it compact and lightweight . The 6ARC with 18" will deliver about 620 Ft pounds of energy at 800 yards . That's super impressive. That's pretty much getting hit with full power 10mm load at point blank range . The 18" is gonna be the most popular because of maneuverability . I have 16" because I wanted something that could still be devastating out to 600 yards. Because that's more practical for me. Once Criterion comes out with their 6arc barrels I will be getting a 20in from them and making a semi-auto sniper system. The 16 or 18 inch would be a compact semi-auto sniper system. A 16" 6ARC is supersonic out tob1150 yards . The 18" will be 1250ish . The 20" will be 1300 Plus yards . That's super impressive.

@@robertadvincula6177 I believe Odin has 21" barrels in stock . Or should say they were in stock couple days ago . On Brownells they have pre-order for Ballistic Advantage 22" or 24" barrels . I think Faxon makes up 20". Wilson Combat is also supposed to be making some 6ARC barrels as well but they've released no dates of when . Hopefully you can find the barrel your looking for in stock . I know I had to do pre-order through Brownells for my Faxon . I'm glad I did because within 1 week if me getting that BARREL in my possession they were sold out . I just looked and the Faxon are back in stock but only for the 16" , Ballistic Advantage is Pre-order and Odin is out of stock . Also for ammo your gonna have to pre order . I pre ordered 300 rounds through Midway USA before they stuck 5 box limit .. The 6ARC is gonna be an awesome Cartridge that can bang steel past 100 yards and be a very nice Deer and Hogs rifle. Hornady said the 103g ELDX will be out in September . Me personally I'm gonna be mainly shooting the Hornady Black 105g and 103g ELDX. The 108g ELDM would be nice to have 300 or so rounds but very unlikely you are gonna be shooting that every time you go tobthe range . That's why I'm gonna focus on the 103g and 105g because it's more practical. To get the performance that you've been reading about is using the 108g ELDM. Those bullets are absolutely phenomenal in-flight. The 105g BTHP is no slouch but the ELDM is definitely superior. Hopefully someone other than Hornady will make some good ammo that's not $1 plus a round . Then again this is a precision cartridge so your gonna want to feed it good ammo for sure .

@@gsxr1189 Both 16" and 20" are capable of shooting over 1k . I could technically just use that 16" to shoot out to 1k . I got the 16" because I wanted something compact as possible .
