Propagating your dahlias really is easy and can be a great way to add more beauty in your garden! In the past i created a video on how to propagate dahlias from stem cuttings but today i will show you how to take off the sprouts from your original tuber.

I was always told to be safe to take a small piece of the old stem attached to the sprout that way your most likely have that cutting to root . Simply because Dahlias stems are hollow and is very difficult to root cutting from them so if you take a chunk of the older stem this will insure that it's sealed and all parts that tell the cutting what to do are on that older chunk. I blanking what that's call but you need it .

If i take all the sprouts shooting up from the tuber will it grow more? Like will the tuber itself have a plant? Sorry if I'm not making. Sense

Hi! Great video! I have a tuber I stuck in a pot to see if still good and have about 4 tall sprouts on it so for sure going to try this! I'm in zone, planting mid may, will I be able to put these cuttings in the ground then?? I'm super excited if so! Thank you! Subscribing!!

A bad downpour split my dahlia stems. I'm going to propagate them. Do I plant them in the ground prior to frost to winterize them?

Why are the tubers on top of the soil? I have some of those that fell if the mother plant while transplanting, can I use the tubers even if they don't have a stem with it, or should I throw them away? What time of the year can I take cuttings, I live in southern California?

This is done so that we can see where the eyes are of the tuber because we're just pre-spouting it for 4 weeks or so before we put it in the garden and there's no need to waste all that potting soil. But once we do planted out in the garden it will be planted deeper till the tubers are covered like normal.
