I’m a beginner and after some heavy research I decided to go with perlite for my very first attempt at propagating. I’m a week in so still not sure how it’s going to work, but after seeing this video and several others I am feeling good about my decision!
I do feel there's one more additional propagation u may have missed. "Air propagation". With moistened moss wrapped around the roots with plastic wrap, this also provides a quick rooting system before cutting it away from the parent plant...
I haven’t yet tried moss but I loveeee perlite as I think it’s quicker than water when I’ve tried it with my different strings of and Hoya etc. I also grow all my plants in semi hydro (pon from soil ninja) and think the transition is easier from perlite to semi hydro in self watering pots. Loved your experiment ❤. I will have to get moss a try. Though I worry the roots would stick to the moss and when I transition them, the remaining moss may cause rot. It would be great to know which of them transitioned well post rooting. Just an idea :). Thank you so much.
Hey. Wanted to know if anyone has experience with mixing perlite and sphagnum moss?? There are so many videos of one or the other and not with a mix of the two… any ideas? I’m asking for a baby albo with about an inch of root already
Glad I found your video. Moss seems to work great for me as far as getting roots, but which one works the best after it's potted? Do you have a update on these guys?
I never know how to navigate sphagnum moss...I never know if it’s just moss sticking to the plant or if they’re actual roots!! And I know you’re not supposed to disturb it a lot so I don’t wanna be pulling everything off (risking breaking new roots), but I also wanna know what parts are actual roots so I can see their progress!! Any tips?
Haha I feel that!! I think it’s fine to keep some stuck on the roots, also the moss usually pulls off relatively easily, I guess that’s a way to tell if it’s a root or not!
A lot of other videos I watched have said to add a little at the bottom of the cup, if there’s no drainage, if there’s holes just spray and let it get wet and soak up water😊
Every couple days I check them to see if they’re heavy or light, the dirt dries faster than the perlite. I’d say I water the dirt once a week and the perlite every couple weeks
