Thanks for the video Dave. I got mine in the mail today. I'm coupling it with the Harbour Frieght solar that you recommend and a Flow jet, on demand water pump to make my shower system at my cabin in the bush. Thanks for all your great insight.
Great video, Dave! I've been thinking about putting a tankless heater in series with my regular 40 gallon electrical heater at the house. I did not know a model like yours existed. This is perfect as a backup heater for power outages or, God forbid, something more serious.
Another great looking idea. Do you have a recommendation on what type of solar pump to use? Also, did you measure how many gallons per shower? In Texas water will be at a premium during a grid down situation but getting mama a shower every so often would be a health benefit and moral booster.
Off the top of my head I cant remember but if you look it up they have a package deal that also provides pump that works great with it. It is a 12 volt pump.
Thanks I'll have to look into this. If the power goes out we have no hot water with the electric tankless we have, the generator is way to small to power it. I have a hot water spigot next to the cold water, so I could run the water back into the house after turning of the waterflow to the house water heater off.
I've been looking for something like this, plus no power usage is awesome. The unit sounds very quiet. How you run this and say do dishes at a campsite or at home seeing that I will probably be putting one of these in my cabin. Love the vids!
besides band on wrist, cant leave message there no comment section available. Set timer on your cell. You always have your cell on your hip. Set that. If water same time each time the time is preset for alarm to go off. You can set alarm for everyday or certain days
How much of propane, gas, other fuels do you recommend to store? I have a family of ten that will be with me. What would you say for a decent amount of time. Please respond.
Figure out how much you use per day or week, then extrapolate by the number of days/weeks you need to prepare for. You are your own best judge of how much you need.
Waiting on surveyor to get to the survey on the land. Problem is spent money for school on land so tapped out for now on the getting the school up quickly.
OMG, she's got about a million videos give or take a few. are you able to post the link to the instant water heater cause I can't seem to find it. thanks. .
BonnieBlue2A Confession time BonnieBlue.....(bows head and shuffles feet) I don't know what the TSP forum is, I just grabbed the pic off something on the internet.
Thanks so much!! Ok so I never let the water run while I shower. I rinse, then immediately shut the water off. I continue to turn the water on and off until clean. Am I able to that with this system? Have a good one.
Yes no problem. The heater only comes on when water flows through it. There will still be hot water in the pipe and system so really you will not notice anything. Save water and fuel.
+27dcx I was not in any branch of the military. When I was a child, I would spend the summers with my grandfather in Bass Lake Indiana. He was in the Navy and wouldn't let me shower any other way. Which is great. You actually suds up a lot more without the water running :)
Hey David, we've been building an off the grid tiny house and have been thinking about showers for quite sometime... lol but with this model, can you mount the control box indoors? btw it looked like in your video, it had a galvanized 'lid' on it... was that for blockage of the outdoor elements, or venting, etc?! Thanks for posting the video. :)

An elevated water tank also works. In the 1800s some wealthy American homes had water tanks up in their attics so that they could have indoor plumbing. Yes, it required plumbing into the gutter system or someone physically carrying water up to fill the tank one bucket at a time.
If I hurry up and get it painted and trimmed out will probably put a little cement board for safety and a little overhang for the summer. I have to many projects going on at the same time.
I see this as a extreme luxury because if u have a container with water and u poor boiling water in it... u got warm water to bath. Just scoop it up and is not gonna kill u. No propaine no power and running water for shower is a waste. Im not making it up i already leave like this. 70% off grid already.
Yes, I've been off grid also - just about everything is a great luxury out there Using a shower head, rinses better and uses less water. Some places, wood burning water heaters are too warm for the climate. But, being off-grid sanitation is very important. Hot water does a better job a lot of the time. I don't go care for doctors. So I'll take a propane hot water heater over doctor's visits. Perhaps you're bald 😏 Yes - off grid, lots of things seem like luxuries ... But if you can't enjoy the simple things in life, with a bit of simplicity, then living off grid is nothing more than a constant chore. I'm looking at this video because I just picked up a used jacuzzi spa tub and propane hot water heater to put in my greenhouse... I live in a dry cabin. Rainwater gravity system, propane hot water - feeding my jacuzzi spa tub.. I know where I'm going to be this new year's eve!
Make a system that does not need any high tech material. Like a black plastic tank stored in a place where it gets full sun all the time, connected to the plumbing.
This allows you to take a shower in the morning or at night without waiting. The propane is cheap and that tank will probably last around 600 showers at 3 minutes each. $20 for propane is a bargain for the long term use.
Most units will tell you the minimum water inlet pressure needs to be around 15 psi, so yes, gravity could work if you have enough head pressure. BTW, 15 psi is about 30 ft of head so in theory you could raise a bucket up a tree or up a hill and do this. The alternative is a 12 volt pump on a battery. (solar charge or from a vehicle)
Nice as long as you have propane available and water from a hose with water pressure. But in a real world collapse neither of those things will be available after a while. What then?
Southernprepper1 thanks, missed that one. Think I will use a Coleman stove and a large pot with one of those battery operated camping pump heater pumps thing a ma jigs. . I actually have used just a Coleman stove and heated water in a big pit and took cup showers before. Works good with a squeeze bottle with a spout like a old soap bottle. Fill it up with the hot water and squeeze out the water on yourself. Soap up then rinse. You can have a really good hot bath/shower that way. And just like they use to do in the old west you can always fill a tube up with heated water from a stove or fire place. Looks like you got a lot better system going there though. I think I would have built it close to the house Inside a shed or enclosed for winter purposes. I wonder what's the purpose if you have a lot of snow and you need it then. Setup looks like it would be a cold ordeal???
@@nathanbigsby8731 why did he say it if he did not mean it? They are called “water heaters” NOT hot water heaters. I do not understand why anyone would want to heat any water that is hot.
@@thonatim5321 the internet is a world created by tag words. "Hot water heater" is more redundant in it's description, than illogical in action. It's used often although not technically correct.. of course you could have "warm water heaters" Anyone searching for "hot water" or "water heater" will find this video using that terminology. But if that's all you got out of this video? Then I don't think you're interested in hot water or water heaters.
