Great info again. Another way to end up selecting the right premade yardage tape is to put white tape on the sight. Then get your 20 and 60? Or whatever range you know is good hits. Mark these on the tape as you get these distances. Then pull the tape off the sight and compare it to the printed ones to find the right one. I normally shoot three different yardages ( 20-40-60) just to hVe a midrange reference point. Arrow weight and speed can cause the mid range (40) mark to be off a yard or two sometimes.
I had a Vertix that fit me perfectly and I shot it better than anything else I have ever owned. I bought a VXR 31.5 and it did not feel like my Vertix. I have it perfect now by shortening my draw length a little and changing to a high wrist grip. Now my VXR is perfect for me.
Thanks for the quick tips. I don't have a new bow to replace my PSE from 2006, hopefully next year since I am getting married in August. But I did get a new custom bow string and cables late last summer. Since I went to Cabela's and they were so busy they had me drop it off I am not sure if I am correctly aligned, but they probably measured my old set up and replicated it. I know that I need to find a true Archery Shop were they can spend time with me like he did here with Dan. I haven't tried a single pin, but I have been curious about them. I have ran inexpensive 3 and 5 pin sights including the current inexpensive Trophy Ridge 5 pin sight that claims to be ambidextrous, but isn't. I am on the edge of adjustment both vertically and horizontally. I plan on getting a new TRUE Left Hand sight and getting it dialed in from there. Maybe even a smaller aperture peep, not sure on that yet though. Thanks again for sharing.
Thank you for this!! I was having an issue with my V3 and constantly adjusting my peep height and just not deciding what I like more. You just removed all doubt on where I should have it to match my old bow so it’s repeatable. Thank you!
Hey guys, loving these videos! Since you're doing a lot of awesome tinkering vids, I was wondering if you could do one on release type vs peep height? Been thinking about adding a handheld to the mix and have heard that might involve a peep adjustment. Others say they can use multiple release styles on the same rig. Thoughts and experiences? Adjusting peep vs adjusting anchor? I see Dan-o has been switching up releases lately. Thanks for the consistent information, entertainment, and motivation. Big fan🙌
Great video, thanks for posting. Just switched to a Vertix (from an older Hoyt) that my friend was willing to sell me. Getting it set up soon at the local shop so trying to learn all I can about set up before I go. Keep up the good content!
I’m hoping my local bow shop can help me out in this aspect. I recently upgraded from a 2002 Darton Fury (my first bow) that was 36” ATA to a modern Bear that is 30” ATA and it just feels weird, mainly the string angle I think. On my old bow the DL and kisser and peep were just perfect but on the new one I can’t get it to feel comfortable like that. Thanks for the tips 👍🏻
Good stuff. Does Black Gold have a dual yardage marker like the Spott Hogg Fast Eddy? The second marker really helps those 100+ yards shots so you don't shoot your sight or have to guess.
I’m digging the ABT series you guys have been doing. I’m curious to know what poundage are you shooting and what arrow weight is the arrow you’re using?
Wouldn’t be able put the monkey tail between the strings because of the string angle my peep is all the way at the top where the serving starts and I’m a 27 inch draw. Guess I have a long face 🤣🤣🤣. Also I’m not having any issues I was just curious to what you would have to say about that. Thanks for the feed back though. I find with the Mathews bows if you measure from axle to axle and cut that perfectly down the middle for your nocking point the bow will perform at its best. Along with setting your rest at 13/16 and then paper tuning with the top hat system. 95 percent of the time u won’t have to move your rest from 13/16 if you find the right set of top hats. Doing those few things my set up always feels amazing and is very forgiving
Awesome video again! Just curious if you abandoned the idea of switching to left hand for eye dom and why? i did it myself around the time you were considering it. the first few weeks were brutal but now just a few months later im pulling more than i did right handed and its starting to feel really natural. glad i did it but i get its going to feel different for everyone.
My MBG sight tape shows me almost 10fps then my actual bow speed.... I literally had to just mark my 20 and 80 on a sticky note and then line it up with sight tapes.... also, I’m guessing on that sight, your using your floater as the top pin and that’s why you really can slide further then the 100 (per first tape) , but if you get their dual indicator, you could have your top and bottom as floaters and go well past 100...
Measuring draw length on a draw board would probably be a better way of measuring how long a bow is drawing. Brand to brand, berger holes are not in the same place on the bow.
Mathews should make a bow ,,, just like the v3x 33 with the lower poundege ,,, 45 -55,,, ,,, why did they shorten up the Image ,, ATA ,,, or are they waiting tell next year to do it ?? A perfect bow would be a v3x 34 with an " 34 ATA" ,, and a draw # of 45-55 ,,,, I would buy one tomorrow ,,,
Four feet tall and a 7 inch nose.... I think we found Pinocchio! Just kidding bud, love your videos! So many of them have value for people of all experience levels. I've been into archery for almost 20 years, and I'm still learning every day, whether from you, others on youtube, others at the range, and just with regular practice. Keep on keeping on brother!
I like the idea but it seems like there are too many variables to consider with those measurements. Draw length should be relatively constant between all bows, but peep location and others are probably affected by the string angle, riser design and the overall size of the cams. Definitely stuff to consider though in setting up a new bow.
I agree with pretty much everything buttttt what happens when u have the peep height the same and the string the same length as the vertix but now your peep is crooked and u have to put a twist in your string. Now you’re messing with your draw length again
I've seen this so many times when people get the wrong size bow or wrong poundage last one I remember was a kid about 6'5 came in with a tx5 and was getting bad tears in paper I mean bad like it was like a 4 inch tear in paper it's obvious the bow just didn't fit him and you can see his arrows fly awful and he'll never be accurate with it but the guy tried his best to help him and couldn't so he wasted all that money for nothing another kid bought a 85 pound bow just for deer hunting where in my areas out east most shots are under 40 yards worker told him you dont need that much he didn't care and after about 20 arrows he was done shooting because he got worn out there's people working at shops for a reason and a good shop won't lie to you and do it's best to get you out the door being as accurate as possible not just sell you something then ship you out the door we need more good shops like yours and mine out there God knows there's definitely not enough of them
You really don't like those shoes, you like the way they fit. Come to my shop buy new different shoes, spend money. I can stretch and shrink and make them fit just like the old payed for shoes you have.
