JD, I am a new Propride owner. We tow a Lance 2375 behind a 2019 F150 FX4 with a tow package. Had several scary trips due to wind and even semis. I found that long travel days could be exhausting with any kind of wind. So far, the ProPride has lived up to the hype. Even keeping this 28 ft 6000 lb trailer fully under control during an evasive maneuver in rush hour. AND, I can open my tailgate fully with the trailer! Buy once, cry once. Then tow comfortably. I highly recommend it!

I'm on my second ProPride hitch. I first towed a ~6,000 lb Winnebago TT with both a GMC Yukon and a GMC Canyon (separate stingers). Not one incident of sway. Now I'm towing a nearly 7,600 lb airstream with first a GMC Sierra 1500 and now a F250. Again, not one incident of sway. This works as advertised. Some folks worry about hitching up - once you get the hang of it (just a couple of hook ups) its quick and easy. I've had guys in campgrounds tell me they've wanted to order one but heard its hard to hook up - so I put them in my truck and have them do it. I wouldn't tow with anything else.

Love my ProPride. My brain still can't wrap around the physics of how it actually works...but it does. That's all that matters to me. I've had lots of other RV'ers ask me about it, I'll just say "here's how it connects to the trailer, here's how it connects to the truck, and here's where magic happens"
@patrickbrabec337
@patrickbrabec337 Год назад
I had one on my tt and loved it. The narrow end of the trapezoid is towards the trailer and the wide end is at the back of the truck. Essentially it multiplies the force from the back of the truck to the trailer and reduces the force from the trailer forward to the truck. In theory, there could be enough force to cause sway, but the reality is your tall tt would probably tip over before that would happen.

The adjustability for weight distributions is great too.

We bought a used 29' Forest River TT last year, unfortunately I didn't get to do all my proper research before we got it, and afterwards realized we either need to sell it and go smaller or get a 3/4 ton which we really couldn't do.. Talked to my brother, remembering he had a different hitch way back when with his TT (was a Hensley). Went online and researched and figured that or the Propride was my best bet at this point. Got the Propride, installed and set it up and took my first trip, 3 hours away. I kind of white knuckled it soley based on never towing anything that long before, but kept it between 65-70 and it was rock solid. I knew when a semi came up on me, but no sway or getting knocked around. 2nd trip we got caught in some nasty thunderstorms and again, rock solid. I consider it a life saver and the biggest piece of mind if you have a bumper pull.

I’m glad to see the ProPride finally being featured. I’m an owner and it’s a truly revolutionary product. Friction based sway control is nothing more than a band aid on the problem. As long as the trailer can pivot on the ball you can still get sway. The ProPride by locking out the ball addresses the root cause of the problem rather than trying to cover it up. A couple of notes. Multiple ProPride owners have reported that hitched up with WD engaged their is no difference in the weight being applied to the truck between the 3P and their older conventional hitch. Which means that even though it’s heavier the hitch applies little to no additional weight to the tow vehicle. Also the customer service that ProPride gives you truly cannot be beat. Some companies talk about treating you like family. ProPride truly does. Yes it’s expensive. But if you value your families safety when towing down the road it’s worth every penny.

I’ve had a Propride for several years. First we drove our 28’ Shadow Cruiser with a 2017 Yukon XL. I would still get sway. Honestly I think the suspension of the Yukon is just to soft for that size trailer even though I was several thousand pounds under the towing capacity of the vehicle. Just this summer we upgraded to an F-350 single rear wheel, wow it was a night and day difference. Before I didn’t like pulling above 60mph, now I can tow at highway speeds with nearly no sway. I do feel some vehicles pass, but not much more than you would when driving without a trailer. As others have mentioned, the customer service frown Propride is excellent, I’ve had the owner of the company call me back to answer questions, as well as Brent. I do have a few cons, but I wouldn’t say they are deal breakers. 1. Install can be a bit tricky. But now Propride has videos that help. They weren’t available yet when I installed mine. 2. I had to modify the stinger slightly to fit into the truck receiver. Basically it had completely square corners, that wouldn’t fit in the slightly radiused corners of a receiver. 3. It hangs kind of low under the tongue of the trailer. Occasionally I’ll scrape it going over a bump. I do live in a relatively flat part of the country so this may or may not be a bigger/smaller problem depending on the terrain you haul in. 4. It can be tricky getting it all to line up when hitching up. After having it for several years most of the time it goes smoothly, but occasionally it’ll be a bugger and I need to fiddle around to get the system to go together.

Great hitch from ProPride and great content once again from Big Truck Big RV! I recommend checking some other social media with ProPride group for user experiences. I personally use this hitch with Expedition, F150 and F450. It allows you to open your tailgate while hooked up. Major bonus if you camp out a lot and have stuff in the back. Another major plus is the fact that when you pull your toy hauler or travel trailer for several hours a day you will notice that you are way less stressed and tired once you're at your destination. You have to experience it so try to find someone with this hitch for test drive if you have any doubts. Keyboard scientists should check the physics on how moment of force / tongue weight changes when you add extension in a form of the hitch with stinger into your trailer. No biggie but it has impact on tongue weight and helps with compensating the hitch unit weight. It's very easy to check with tongue weight scale also. Anyways, happy customer since 2019!

We have towed our 28 foot airstream around 30k miles. I’m all for this product if you are well within safe limits, and looking for a more comfortable towing experience for longer trips when winds can potentially be gusty in a half-ton. But definitely not to attempt to correct a poor trailer vs. tow vehicle purchase decision. We have a 30ft. travel trailer, and an F-150 ecoboost. Tows great when winds are 15 mph or less, but gets a tad uncomfortable anything more or gusty for trips longer than a few hours. Which is why we purchased an F-350 srw. The lower head section is connected to the upper head section with a dual pivot arm connection. He also gave nearly completely false information in the first point, the weight of everything from the trailer's front axle forward to the connection point adds to the weight felt by the tow vehicle. Moving the weight back a few inches has almost zero impact on that effective payload increase, and the fact that the Propride is 2-3x the weight of most competitors is absolutely a con if you're near the limit of the tow vehicles payload rating.
@SeanWoodruff
@SeanWoodruff Год назад
@@andrewfidel2220 that's verifiably false by actually weighing tow vehicles when hitched with the 3P compared to the same tow vehicle hitched with a conventional hitch. It is not anywhere near 2-3x the weight of most competitors. Everything from forward of front axle of the tow vehicle is not carried by the tow vehicle axles ("felt by the tow vehicle"). The Pro Pride was designed by Jim Hensley, who also created the Hensely Arrow and Cub. The Pro Pride is revised in a few ways, but the core aspect, the dual pivoting head, functions identically between the two. Both are amazing hitches and the best on the market. I owned a Hensley for 3 years and absolutely loved it. I hated the orange color and ended up having an issue with the powder coating failing in just the 1st year. So, i would likely go the Pro Pride route if I ever owned another travel trailer.

Jim Hensley canceled his licensing agreement with Hensley Mfg in 2007 due to the company owner not wanting to license his improvements. I subsequently started ProPride and licensed his patents. Any patents that were licensed on the Hensley Arrow have now expired and it no longer is covered by any Jim Hensley patents.

So my question is how long a trailer could you put behind a half ton truck or Tahoe/Expedition assuming it is light enough in weight?
@engineeringVirtue
@engineeringVirtue Год назад
Expedition with good sway control can easily handle up to 30ft trailer, but you need to be very careful with tongue weight and payload and have the right specs.
@davidmoyer2109
@davidmoyer2109 Год назад
The only way to not ask is to have experience. Hopefully without an accident. Everything is relative. A Tahoe you might limit to 25ft. A Suburban maybe 30. A suburban might not have enough payload. Profile of the trailer must pay a large role. Some are pretty slab sided and tall. Others less so. Also where are you towing. Kansas and west Texas would be way worse than Ohio. What I was looking for were guidelines. If you get caught in a tornado you’re screwed. How much extra does a $3000 propride hitch get you?

@@davidmoyer2109 I owned and quite heavily used a Hensley Cub, same functionality as the Propride as they're both designed by Jim Hensley. I use to tow a 26' travel trailer with a 2005 Chevy Tahoe. In the beginning we had a Blue Ox Tow pro WDH. It did ok, but I was never comfortable enough that I would like my wife get behind the wheel under any normal circumstances. After half a year of towing with the Blue Ox I bit the bullet and got a Hensley. It was an absolute game changer. It made towing so much less stressful. We were able to go further and travel more because of the much improved stability the hitch created. Is it perfect.. No, there are still occasional situation where you'll feel a little wiggle of the trailer here and there, most notable when you're in the wash, dirty air, behind a semi trailer on the interstate. Based on my experience, I've towed little utility style trailers up to 44' triple axle toy haulers all over the US, I honestly wouldn't say or recommend going much outside of those length numbers even with a Propride or Hensley. You might be able to squeeze another 1-2' but any decently built trailer at or much beyond 28-30' is definitely getting outside the safe realm of towing with a Tahoe or Suburban like vehicle, unless you happen to own one of the semi rare 2500 Suburban/Yukon XL's or have an older Excursion. Sure, if you're just moving to some local 1-2hr away site, not dealing with steep grades, you might can push it a little more. Do people and will people continue to push the limits of these 1/2 Ton like Suv's, absolutely. They're also, by far, the most common setup I set crashed on the interstate though. At the end of the day, the safety and stability These hitches offer are absolutely the most important aspect of my towing experience. Many of us spend many tens of thousand of dollars on our campers and the same for our tow vehicles. It just doesn't make since to me to cheap on out such a critical piece of equipment when you likely have $30k up to well over $100k in a truck/camper setup.

This hitch and the Hensley were both designed by the same guy. The ProPride is an evolution of the Hensley that incorporates numerous improvements over the original based on service experience. What’s more since it was initially designed the ProPride has continued to evolve and get better. Some areas where the ProPride excels. The mouth for the stinger to go in is larger which makes hitching up easier. The Yoke once installed needs no adjustment and does not require drilling the trailer frame unlike the side bars on the Hensley which require both regular adjustment and drilling the frame for installation. The ProPride stinger is adjustable for both height and tilt giving you a far greater ability to get your setup dialed in properly. I could go on but you get the point.

I was thinking the same thing. If you put it right on the tounge, all 195lbs how does that not go against your payload? It's directly on the tounge. Just because it distributes the weight doesn't mean it's not all tounge weight.
@SeanWoodruff
@SeanWoodruff Год назад
@@joshgarner805 No, all 195lbs does not go toward payload of the tow vehicle. When weight distribution is applied some of the weigh is carried on the trailer axles. The numbers change based on rear overhang and wheelbase of the tow vehicle coupled with the distance from the hitch ball to the trailer axles.
