I can barely keep up with watching your productivity and work ethic is amazing with everything you have to manage and accomplish day to day. Thank you for continuing to make informative & entertaining videos 🥺 also I can only imagine how your body must hurt!! My friend in the medical field recently had to do something physically demanding for a patient and couldn’t move the next day. These are amazing tips for your field but I think for work in general. ♥️
SashaThePanda 💖 I always love seeing you here! I so appreciate the appreciation hehe. I’m just out here having fun and doing what I love! It’s people like you who keep me going! Yeah I totally have mad respect for everyone in the medical field no matter what job!! Everyone plays a significant role in making the hospital work. I try my best to stay aware of my body aches and pains!! So I totally get what you’re saying!! I hope you have an amazing week 🥰
I’ve been thinking a lot lately, and I feel like there are so many great careers, like sonography, that will fulfill me, provide for me, etc. without many years of schooling. I definitely don’t ignore that sonography is still going to be challenging and hard, because I’m sure it is! But I’m not sure I want to go to school for so long. Any one else feel this way? I love all the pros of this video the one con that stands out most is the work life balance and scheduling. I am someone who enjoys weekends and holidays, but I feel I can sacrifice in the beginning in order to get a preferred schedule in the future! I do want children in the future and want to have enough time with them
It'll definitely be a give and take in the beginning of this process. Many techs are ale to have children and time with them. It's up to you though and where you decide to work. The medical field is very demanding. If you work as a per diem tech you'll have more flexibility with your schedule. If you work for an outpatient place, you'll have better types of shifts and days off. It just ultimately depends where you end up working. Lots of things to think about. Good luck!
Honestly you listing the cons has made me more determined to get into this program. I’ve faced so much verbal and mental abuse in working customer service since I was 18. I’m 25 now and if I must face this abuse I would like to have a livable wage. Working in the healthcare setting as admin for the last two years has made me happy but I want to do more.
I am glad to hear you want to work in a healthcare setting! It's just like customer service but to another level. Customer service background will really help you in this field. I wish you luck, you deserve to do something you enjoy!
Kudus to you I’m also in the customer service world, seeking for better pay and a more rewarding career. Good luck with all your endeavors. WE GOT THIS‼️
I've always judged myself in the past thinking I couldn't go into healthcare because it is too competitive/ expensive/ time consuming or that I just don't have the "magic touch"... despite the vast neverending infinite need for health professionals in society I've learned a lot about myself recently and I am really considering a career path in healthcare.
Just believe in yourself! The only thing that’s stopping you is you. Definitely come join us in our discord you can talk to other aspiring students. Find me on Instagram @lolgeselle or email me at lolgeselle@gmail.com and we can talk about it if you’d like! Good luck! ❤️
pro: 1. good pay 2. growing field 3. can work in multiple sites 4. help others cons 1. competitive 2. may overwork - 30mins/patient is ideal burnout mentally physically draining patient dealing
You had me at Pro #5! I have been having some self-esteem issues worrying about the fact that a DMS is a big part of diagnosing pathology. I was/am so worried about not being good enough or smart enough to fulfill the role. You were so sweet, kind and re-assuring talking about how you aren't alone in the role and that you can rely on your co-workers/team. Thank you for this great video!
You can do this if you put your mind to it! I know it's scary at first, but it definitely teaches you to become more confident in yourself! Thanks for supporting and watching, I truly appreciate the feedback!
Girl you're pumping out good, quality videos like a pro!!! Hahaha get it, a pro? When it comes to pros and cons, its all a balance of risk and rewards and pros outweigh the cons- especially because some of these cons can be worked around (ergonomics) and some are present in all jobs (a bunch of them which pay much less too!) Thank you for sharing!!! ❤❤❤
MsYohi omg I’m obsessed with YOUUUUU! Heheh. And yes thank you for totally expressing that, how they can be worked around, truly why I had a hard time coming up with cons that are just totally part of the job.. but can be dealt with in certain ways. And more experience always helps. I appreciate you always and LOVE seeing you here!!! Keep on being you!! 💖💖💖
@@lolgeselle Thanks so much this definitely helped me make my final decision if I'd like to study this in college and make it my career choice officially
I love your last statements about what to think at the end of the day. I am still deciding whether I should go this route or nursing. Thank you for this detailed video. It’s very helpful and informative.
I love how you're so honest and thorough when explaining your videos.Im super happy I found your content. Iam currently in my first year in the DMS program.
I agree with you that all the jobs have their pros and cons and it was a very informative video you've made I have gained some knowledge I did have before!!
I just want to say your videos are awesome definitely encouraged and motivated me to a RVT. I’m not going to lie I was kinda scared for a while because 1.) I thought i would face gender discrimination going into this field and second didn’t think I had what it takes but your videos definitely helped me channeling that fear . Just want to thank you coming from all the way from New York 👌🏾
Andre, wow that is sooo awesome and ooo humbling. I am so proud of you for making that decision! I have sooo many male friends and coworkers in this field, don't ever let anything stop you from your dreams!! It makes me so happy to know I can impact your life in just a small way! Don't be a stranger and let me know if there's anything you need answered! Good luck hun!!
Totally agree with the appointment times getting smaller as being a negative. Not great for patient care - and also your own health. Big risk of injury to the sonographer. And a risk of missing pathology if you rush a scan. I’ve had 2 severe shoulder injuries. Resulted in 2 operations to my rotator cuff. I now can’t work in that field full time. In Australia it’s getting worse, with private companies offering sonographers a bonus if they scan more than a certain number of patients a day. It’s a worry. Many companies are owned by corporations with people at the top not being medically trained. They only understand money and numbers.
That’s insane!!! It is true. They only think about the numbers and money, not us human beings and the stress we put our bodies through during this field. I appreciate your insight!
I’ve been looking into this job because I’m not going to college however I’d love to go to trade school, I’m a very hands on and visual learner, I’m also very competitive lol so I know I’ll be able to challenge myself. I’d also say I’m a personable person a swell and I love to help people even if they are difficult to help. The hours are the only concern for me because I am still 18 and that work/life balance might be difficult for me, but I think I’m going to give it a shot :)
I am concerned because I am physically disabled (and have autism) but when you say it is physically demanding that worried me for sure! But that's also the reason I want to do this, because I wanna help others like all these doctors have helped me. However I know I will never want to be a doctor or nurse. So sonogram sounds really cool and all the sonogramers I have seen have all said they love their job. And I'm always interested in what is happening when they do
I start my externship at a hospital in April, so I’m watching as many of your videos as I can. 🥲💕 How long did it take you to get comfortable with scanning alone?
Ahh that’s so exciting! You gotta let me know how it goes! 🥰🥰 It took me probably about 3 months to truly be okay with scanning on my own!! It takes time but with more practice comes more comfortability! ✨
US Senior Student here, I was hoping you could maybe make a video on the best study techniques you used when studying for your registries. I feel so struck and don’t know where to start
Just found out I was accepted into the sonography program. What do you recommend for someone who wants a flexible schedule? I am trying to decide if this is a good choice for me. Will it be more flexible to work in a hospital setting? Or office? Per diem?
The only thing that worries me about pursuing ultrasound in my near future is interacting with difficult patients. Such as being yelled at not being able to provide the best results and images, then that reflecting into my work in what the radiologist sees. I know it's part of the job working in a Healthcare setting and in time I will learn to cope with it. But it's just always held me back in passionately striving in this career, although I am very eager to learn and do sonography! Thanks for sharing!
Doing sonography in the fall. I now have a baby, she will be 9 months when I start. Could you please interview someone that had a baby/babies while in the program? I’m a little nervous.
You’re going to need to stay tuned to the next one love!! I have two sonographers, both moms, who will share their stories. You can do it, I believe in you. I hope you have a support system around you! 💖
@@lolgeselle thank you!! 💗💗 I haven’t been able to find sonographer moms! So happy I found your channel, It was meant to be lol I’ll definitely be looking forward to those videos. I do have a support system and I consider myself very fortunate! 😊
@@jackiemadrigal2420 yay I can’t wait! I believe everything happens for a reason.. this is the universe speaking to you. You can do it!!! Your little one will be so inspired by you 🥰🥰🥰 I AM inspired by you! 🤍 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-b-g9f-UL3Mg.html 💘
Hey, Pauline! I have to take this as my entry test for the program. Since it’s fairly new, there’s not much info out there about it.. have you looked on your schools website to see if there’s a handbook that explains it? My school provided a brief description on it. No math or English. No studying involved. $50. I can send you a picture of the description if you have Instagram. My username is @mcintyre.emma. Hope to hear from you ❤️
@@emmamcintyre228 thanks Emma, I see even our school webs descriptions for the exam mentioned that no study involved, it’s a responsibility for applicants maybe to find the content for their practice.
Thank you for this video! I was wondering if Doctors typically understand if you aren't comfortable over exerting your wrist to protect your physical body? Is there an increase in awareness around sonographer health and safety?
I mean they should understand the decisions you make as a sonographer. There is an increase awareness, but you ultimately are the one in charge of your body and how far you're willing to go and push for an image on a patient.
at the time it was not, but for you it can be hard -- depends on where you live/ what school/ what city you plan on working in. I would do market research !
It depends on the physical limitations or chronic illness. Majority of sonographers either stand or sit to scan and could possibly deal with transporting patients in the hospital or moving beds.. and use their arms extensively. Lots of repetitive movements and long term potential injury in the field.
yes! just study a lot, get a tutor, spend a lot of time on your weaknesses and the strengths will pull you through. you got this! believe in yourself :)
Yes! Many programs only take a certain number of students and usually once a year. The interview process or entry process is really difficult a lot of the times because the candidates are all very similar with probably good/ high GPAs and lots of volunteer work on their resumes so it can be competitive. I know some programs that have waitlists of 2-6 years it's that crazy. BUT, with some research and dedication, anyone can find a program that fits them and is able to get into!
Thank you so much 💞 Very good advice 😊How long does it take to do the pre requisite? And could I get them done at a community college as well so I could get the pre requisite done at the same college where I started the Sonography degree?
Nadine, of course! I appreciate you so much for watching and learning! ✨ Pre reqs can take anywhere from a few semesters to a few years. It depends on the program you are applying to and what they require. If you plan on going to a community college prior to a sonography program at another college, make sure you talk to both schools’ advisors to see if your credits will transfer! Otherwise you’ll be left with having to retake classes and that would suck! So contact and email advisors / counselors! But yes that is definitely possible and has been done!
I'm just curious and hoping you see this comment, but your experience is because you worked in the hospital setting right? Sooo I'm just curious, how many patients on average do you think you handle a day? And if hypothetically i work in a place that's not at a hospital setting, would I not be as overworked then? Thank you for the videos!
Hi there!! You can be overworked in both hospital and outpatient settings. It just depends on the company and how busy they are. It can be hit or miss. It can also depend on how many staff members are with you and if you're by yourself. Typically in outpatient you can scan anywhere from 8-12 patients, even more. This goes the same way for hospital settings, even more too depending how busy. :) Thanks for watching!
Hi Marwa!! If you go to my ultrasound playlist and day in the life playlist I have a TON of information on this field! I also have a podcast playlist that has more specific conversations! Take a listen
I am thinking about going into this field, but I am not sure where to start. I’ve been in registration for like 10 years, at St. Rose for the last 5 years and need a change lol. Which program did you attend? Thanks for the video. 💕
Hi!! There's UNLV and CSN in Las Vegas. UNLV is a bachelors degree and CSN is an associates degree. Start by checking out their requirements and see if you can contact a counselor/ advisor! :) Good luck!
Hello! Of course. Anything and everything can help shape your future and give you experience. It could help you by teaching you skills and for sure will benefit you on your resume in the long run! ✨
Yes I did! It was difficult but with adequate study time, lots of RU-vid videos, study groups - you can succeed!!! What are some things you’re specifically struggling with? You’re not alone! 💖
@@lolgeselle see the thing is she doesn’t tell us what we get wrong on a test so we don’t know what we need to improve I study my ass off but I still fail all exams but I’m struggling the most with something called bone markings .
@@shortyydee5212 aw man that’s not good because you def do have to figure out what it is you got wrong to do better I’m sorry, that’s unfortunate!! I suggest find a study method that works for you. Repetitive things helped me. Reading, writing, and explaining! Maybe find a classmate or someone to explain it better to you! Anatomy a lot of the time is memorization but also understanding it will help 1000x more. If you have discord, we have a chat room for anatomy where students can ask each other for help or advice if you’d like to join! 🤍 Maybe they can motivate you!
yes most places will offer shift differentials. you can ask the departments, but it depends on where you work. and yes you usually do get paid for on call!
@@lolgeselle thank you so much for the quick reply. I'm a 49 year old guy trying to make a career change. I have finished all my prerequisites with a 4.0 gpa and hopefully will be accepted in a echocardiogram program soon. Thank you for your content!!!
Hi! I'm not sure what the requirements are over in India. You may need to do some additional research. Perhaps you can look up being a foreign exchange student and study abroad in the USA or another country.
Hi!!! Yes, I do! Often times before and after patients or when we have down time, or in passing! I work in a big hospital with multiple rooms and an office. Some places have one or two rooms next to each other and you will see each other the entire time in between patients. Just depends where you work. We do work “alone” while scanning patients but when you have a coworker on your shift as well you will definitely see them and have time to talk!
@@요링이 when talking to patients I make sure I get their history and all the information I can get. If it’s an exam where they’re comfortable enough to talk, I talk to them! I just gauge on their personality and talk to them about different things so long as they’re okay with it and it doesn’t interfere with my work. I truly love talking to my patients and getting to know them!
Hi! Thank you for your video! Are there any advantages to getting a Bachelor’s Degree over an Associate’s degree for Sonography, such as better pay, more job opportunities, etc?
Hi! Getting a bachelors may provide you with more job opportunities or higher education like getting your MBA/PA/and higher degrees. Otherwise you typically get paid the same, pay is based on years of experience and cost of living in each city.
Is the job market hard for this career I live in the city of orange county? But my question overall is there jobs out there that offer full-time or do you have to start part-time first.
Hi Jackie!! I would hop onto indeed or search for job openings near Orange County to see if there are places hiring. But generally, cities can be hit or miss, very populated or in dire need of techs. My suggestion for you would be to ask on Facebook sonography groups to see if people in those areas will give you some insight! You can get full time depending on what the place is offering. You don't have to start part time or per diem. But it just depends on the place of work and what position/ opening they have available.

I’m starting this fall. I’m so nervous! I am doubting myself (knowing I shouldn’t!) and feel like I’m not smart enough (which I know I am but the thought is there!) . To pass the classes it must be 78%+ . I’m already stressed and I haven’t even started yet. Wish me luck! 🥹❤️
