PROTECT & SWERVE!!! CIVIC DUTY... or Hide & Seek Honda???

We continue to adapt to the death of my dad as I take on a more supervisory role on this and other jobs. I'm still working, helping, and teaching, for as long as God allows. Today's job came to us after a young driver swerved to miss a deer, got on a soft, steep, shoulder, and couldn't recover before the soft gravel took her car down and finally wedged it firmly under a farm access bridge. This Honda performed its Civic duty and protected the driver. We use our Peterbilt 337 with a Miller Industries Century 4024, 20 ton towing and recovery unit, to perform the recovery of the car and use Mike's truck, the Ford F650 with an LCG10, to tow the wreck from the scene.
Again, I wish to thank everyone who has expressed their prayers and/or condolences for the death of my Dad. The outpouring of support from my viewers has been tremendous and has helped in this difficult time. May God bless each and every one of you. Also, thank you for your patience. I am still making videos, but I took a couple weeks off-call after my dad passed, so I wasn't doing very many jobs. This is another job trying to get to the new normal without Dad. I will continue to perform jobs and create videos, as long as God allows. Things will be different moving forward. I have to trust that God will guide me and this channel.
Again, a very special thank you to all my viewers, family, and friends who having taken the time to show their support. May God bless and protect you all!!

As you get more into a supervisory role, does that mean we might not be getting as many videos going into the future after you release the ones you already have?
@RonPratt
@RonPratt 2 года назад
This has been questioned frequently lately and quite understandably. Allow me to clarify what I meant by that statement. Good Lord willing I will still be going out on jobs, recoveries, tows, and making videos as I have been doing. There is currently NO PLAN to stop making videos or to stop doing the job that I love. I will be taking on more administrative duties at the shop, which will take more of my time, thus reducing the number of day-to-day calls that I take, most of which either, aren't filmed, or don't make it to RU-vid anyway. What you see on this channel is only a small portion of the work that we do. I'm going to have to rely on our personnel to take on more of the day-to-day jobs that I used to take, but that shouldn't affect the videos you see here. There shouldn't be a change to the volume of videos you see on the channel, but the content continues to grow and change as God guides. I can't say what will happen in the future. I'll do the best I can to follow His lead. May God bless each and every one of you.

Good to see the guys are getting some excellent training! Looks like you've spent a lot of time building a great crew because I've been seeing them for a while on here. You are always so informative and positive with your teachings. I'm sorry about your dad's passing. I know he was a big part of your life. Mine has been gone 20 yrs and some days something will happen that just brings the loss to the forefront like it was yesterday. Grieve as necessary and as long as it takes knowing that all is in God's great hands.

But a large animal like a deer can come through the windshield. Although the car was wrecked, the driver was unhurt, thankfully. That might not have been the case with a deer in your lap.

Here in Australia,I have hit a lot of kangaroos and one huge pig. They suddenly appear just before impact so there is little chance of swerving but as mentioned,they can come through the screen .people have died here when big Red kangaroo has gone over the front of the car and through the screen and kicked about .

Supervisor means teacher In this context. Teach them the principles of recovery/fishing, and then teach them how to improvise. Debrief recovery with cameras. Always think about anchoring for the pull, and where you’re going to land the Casualty on the road.

One thing always shows so clearly is the real respect the Police and Fire crews have for you, and your family when you attend a scene. Down to here asking about Ethan being home. It really shines through that level of professional service and respect you also all the people you meet out there, your Dad would be proud of you, as it's clear his influence on your life is showing. Thoughts and prayers with you and the family over Christmas as you go through a first season without Dad with you. I'm sitting here in Norway, my Dad, back in Scotland, in hospital after 3 strokes and knowing even if I got a flight and went over, they'd not let me in to visit with covid rules at the moment.

When deer dart out in front of you sometimes your avoidance choices are limited. I finally had a near deer experience about 3 years ago around May. A rarity two Albino deer near midnight about 15 yards in front of my van. A rude awakening for sure. I don't drive at night anymore because of my eyes. Glad this young lady was not injured. My ex mom-in-law was not as fortunate she spent two weeks in the hospital after an early evening encounter with one. Way before I married her daughter.

Ron: You have my deepest condolence at the loss of your father. It is not easy. In 2006, 13 September my dad passed; on 14 September my father in law passed; less than 20 hours apart. It was a tough time our family will not forget. In that window our children lost both their grandfathers. In 2017 my mom passed, and only a few days later my mother in law passed. Now that some years have gone by we can deal with it a little better, but it was pretty tough two different times. You will remain in my prayers for the next year at least. Keep the faith.

One of our local tow companies recovered a SUV from a fairly busy road that had a 45mph speed limit. After getting the SUV out, they strapped it down and left, without clearing the road. I almost hit a 9"x12"x8" clod of sod and dirt they left in the road in my work vehicle. It was night and I was going 40mph, or I wouldn't have seen the clod in time to avoid it. If I had it it, I probably would have totaled my work vehicle... And I had a passenger onboard in a wheelchair, so it could have easily resulted in a fatality. Thank you, Ron, for doing reasonable cleanup after recoveries. :D

Ron, I can tell you from experience that you know you're really grown up when you become your dad. What a lucky driver. As you said that car's a total but it did its job and saved the driver. Nice almost one-step recovery technique- I've never seen you do that but it sure saved time. Good to see the guys doing what they know how to do- it's getting to where you don't really need to point out details at all. And no, we don't expect you to "move on" to flying a desk.

Great video showcasing the teamwork of your team to recover this vehicle quickly and professionally. I am anxious to see how this transitions to get them taking over the "heavy lifting" of these jobs. All the training they have received will be invaluable. Stay safe, and God bless.

Ron, you continue to inspire. Your ability to convey what needs to be done, without expressions of anger, are truly wonderful. In my book you are a shining example of how a leader behaves. My heartfelt condolences to you and your family at the loss of your father.

Ron, no matter what you do you will excel at. I was promoted at work from a regular mechanical worker to a supervisor of that department. Teaching the other personnel was part of the job as well as working alongside them. My wishes for your continued success moving forward. God Bless you and your entire family.

Lucky girl! There was a video on YT somewhere of a van which ran off the highway into a culvert. EMS thought the driver might be ok. But when the van was puled back, everything from the rear seat forward was destroyed down to the wheel wells. Take care, Ron. I imagine Dad's looking down from Heaven saying "that's my boy!"
