Thanks for the great vid! I happen to see this video just a day before I went to a local convention and met the CEO and bought 3 packs from them as well! I'm now addicted! I'll be getting some more next time. I do put desiccant inside my SNES game boxes as well. 👍

Yo Reggie! The Acrylic ones are expensive because most of them are made in China and the shipping costs are sooo expensive for large empty boxes. I'm currently working on a flat-pack design that will make them 1) even stronger 2) not smudge so much when you touch them and 3) cheaper! Also locally made so I can make cases for any sized box, even consoles and weird accessories. I'm probably about 3 months from being ready to sell them.
@huldu
@huldu Год назад
They're pretty neat but I noticed a small "issue" and that's the bottom of the case on the inside. The little flap in there is pretty sharp and can tear or cause damage to your cardboard box if you're not careful putting the game in.
@FrankBell79
@FrankBell79 Год назад
You dont need those acrylic sleeve, museum curator warned the Last Gamer not to do it, they are useless and actually can help develop mold and accumulate humidity, he said the cardboard boxes need to « breathe » to keep em for a long time, you just need to avoid sunlight
@ROCKMANZORO
@ROCKMANZORO Год назад
What about those plastic boxprotectors or plastic bags? I just ordered a set of 100 plastic bags (DVD size) to keep my collection safe from dust and scratches.
@FrankBell79
@FrankBell79 Год назад
@@ROCKMANZORO its a waste of money, my collection value is near 100k and everything is absolutely mint, i have good curtains that protect from sunlight and my game room is very dark
@Painmaster212
@Painmaster212 Год назад
@@FrankBell79 I've had my games in those plastic cases for probably 10+ years now and have never had an issue. I'm not sure on the acrylic ones but the plastic ones seem to be fine in my experience and will add a small amount of protection to your games from let's say stacking or drops.
@GaryGrimtooth
@GaryGrimtooth Год назад
I 100% agree! I don't use them. Museum storage expert I talked to said never use them if protecting cardboard - it will get mouldy faster.
@GaryGrimtooth
@GaryGrimtooth Год назад
@@Painmaster212 acrylic is stable and won't emit fumes like some plastics. The good stuff is also UV rated, so will stop boxes fading. Good cases have tiny gaps for air so it can breathe. It also depends on where you live and the environment. If you live in a temperate/dry place then it should be fine to use whatever. If you live closer to the equator in hot/humid climates where the temperature and humidity changes a lot then storing it in plastic is not going to be great - the temperature difference from outside vs inside will cause water droplets and mould.

What I am concerned about is modern games. People are generally more careful these days so I just have a hard time seeing newer games(ps4-5 etc) get any valuable over time. You'd have to have something quite rare and unusual. Unlike back in the day when we kids used to just throw the game box away and treated our games like the toys they were. Guess we'll find out either way in 30+ years. Then we have the newer generation that might not have any interest in the older stuff. It's starting to remind me of stamps and things our parents and grandparents used to collect. I'm sure they're worth a ton these days but it's something that I'd never personally collect.

I've always wanted to store my game collection in these. Like, the whole thing. Getting the cases scuffed up on the shelf just doesn't sit well with me. But at the point it'd be way too expensive to do them all. Might buy a pack or two and a couple of the more heavy duty ones to put my Rule of Rose or Haunting Ground in.

If you do need case swaps just get those $1-$2 sports games. Needed a case for xenosaga 3 with the dual case and nba live 2005 was $2 and was cheaper then going online. Anytime I need a case I get a sports title just because its an authentic case for that system

I can see why one would protect the cardboard box games such as GB, GBC, and GBA. It really looks nice. Heck, I'd buy some for sure. But I just find it excessive to protect PS2 games. They are already sturdy in it self. But, that's just me.

Really cool, I typically only use protector's for cardboard box stuff, haven't felt compelled to box anything that's plastic since I have my collection away from sunlight and clean regularly so not too worried about those things. That said has anyone found any protectors that fit the Ring Fit box or protector's for the special editions of Rune Factory and Story of Seasons? Want to box those since they're cardboard but haven't found anyone making them. Hope someone does, it's money just waiting to be made lol.

I could use some box protectors especially since I have a decent collection of Super Famicom and Famicom games. Still, I'm hoping someone would make a box protector for those big N64 box games like Star Fox 64 and Pokemon Stadium. Now I do own one acrylic case I specifically bought it for my Shantae on the Game Boy Color. I thought I would never get my hands on that game but thanks to a game store owner I know. He gave me first dibs on the game and gave me a 20% Black Friday discount deal. So of course that game is definitely gonna be in an acrylic case and place proudly on top of my game shelf. .

It really is a shame the packaging for games was always considered am afterthought in the 80's, 90's and even in the 2000's with CARDBOARD cases (i'm looking at you Game Boy Advance) it was ridiculous, we obviously want our PHYSICAL game library to stay with us and not just fade away :(
@huldu
@huldu Год назад
They were considered toys by most of us kids honestly. Some of us took better care of our games than others. But in general you'd be lucky to see an actual box. The same goes with the cardboard box for the system itself. Nowadays *everyone* saves everything so I have a hard time seeing modern things become valuable unless you have something quite rare and unusual. Guess we'll see in 20-30 years if any of are still around by then.

@huldu
@huldu Год назад
I'll give it to them they're cheap at least. I don't have any big collection or anything like that. I've never been into collecting or hoarding things to begin with but I understand why some people do it. Reminds me of that black hole in your soul that you never can fill and it somehow gets bigger and bigger over time when you try feed it lol. Collecting older games nowadays seems like an *expensive* hobby to begin with unless you started early on. Then again if you have a lot of money to burn on things like this then what can you say. I'm glad people are collecting older games because without it some really old games would be long gone today(even for emulators, ie the roms).

Waste of money these cases are. Better get a good dehumidifier and blackout curtains. UV and humidity are the worst enemies of electronics. Also, no amount of care will save modern cartridges from corruption. Eventually, all NAND-based media will die.
