We really appreciate the constructive criticism in the video and in this comments section. We do a lot of in-house testing, but I think the issue is that everyone here has learned how to handle laser cut acrylic products, which means that the issue is not as glaring as it would be for 99% of the population. We are going to add instructions ASAP, and I am going back into the design to make some adjustments. We have also switched to a slightly different material, which will allow for more play in the tabs.

@@DiskCart We are shipping the new improved designs now. They use a more efficient locking and opening system where there are no tabs to break. We have done away with the key system entirely. now there are tabs that interlock without a need for the key. I cant speak highly enough about Retroprotection cases. Ive been buying from them for the last few years and at this point I have their cases on the entirety of my saturn, snes, nes, and n64 complete in box games, along with the entirety of my snes and nes cartridges. I could speak to numerous benefits, but I will say one that applies to all of these cases in the vid is that they can really make even your more worn-out snes or n64 boxes look nice on a shelf. From a foot or so away, they will reflect light a bit and give your box a bit of a shine that takes your eyes away from the various creases and bends that your box might have upon close inspection. Also, they are super good for cartridges to help keep out dirt and grim for those that are tired of overpaying for the original cart sleeves that usually only protect the cart opening and not the cart body or label art. I have to clean my cart connectors much less often now. Good video! That first acrylic box you pointed out would be nice for a couple of my favorite games.
@DiskCart
@DiskCart 3 года назад
agreed 100% retroprotection is an absolute staple for retro gamers. I may need to retocuh on it again soon how much those cases change the look of boxed game. I especially seea difference in some older worn boxes , you get all those sweet corners and edges to make it look brand new again!

Great video man! I’m not sure which of these three cases I would pick. Yeah RCG should definitely include some type of instructions in there. Keep up the great work man!
@DiskCart
@DiskCart 3 года назад
RCG definitely lacks that extra bit of professionalism when it comes tot their product packages. usually its a few peices of acrylic and bubble wrap the rest is up to you to figure out. If they could print one small paper witht he instructions it would be sweet. Though for this product I did seek out the way to use this before attempting and the video/info provided cause the box to break several times over. Its a bummer because outside of that weird design idea the rest is pretty awesome.

Disk Cart this is frustrating for me because, for many years, packaging was what set us apart from every other console modder. But, as we moved into these high volume types of products, it’s been tricky to find a solution for the dozens upon dozens of different displays. There are so many different sizes, so there is no one single solution. That said, I’m trying to find a compromise, and instructions are forthcoming.

I personally never cared about my game cases, until yesterday when i was cleaning my 3ds and switch games and i saw they had so many scratches!, watching this has made me reconsider and buy some acrylic cases, youve won a sub, you make some awesome content... Also how do you have so many games?!
@DiskCart
@DiskCart 3 года назад
The thing thats bothered me is my 3ds games plastic cases get most of their scratches just by me putting them on a shelf next to other 3ds games its kinda crazy. Slowly that plastic becomes foggier and foggier. I definitely recommend retro protection plastic cases for general stuff because wowsa its cheap to outfit an entire collection. Most of my collection Ive collected since I was young but id say since i started this channel i gained at least 1/6 because I needed certain games to test out more display items. But mostly they are games I have played and enjoyed. I get rid of the bad stuff. Thanks very much for the comment!

People always state that grading is the best way to preserve games.....yeah right more like it's an acrylic grave for them. At least with these you can you know actually showcase the art that's in said physical media. This video was excellent in showcasing how to preserve the value of games without grading them and putting them up for sale on ebay. Which lets face it people that grade don't even care about its history but about the dollar signs.
@DiskCart
@DiskCart 3 года назад
I tend to agree with you. Friends of mine who work in real museums do not recommend grading as it seals in gases that actually destroy the games themselves. Not to mention it just becomes a stupid trophy. I am all for getting the 2nd use and displaying games. But I'll be damned if I am not playing them too. 1st rule for me is having games I actually want to play.

@@DiskCart Can't wait to see what you found for these and your comments on them if you happen to make a follow-up video. On the PS2/PS1 sized acrylic cases, I found some on Amazon/eBay from a seller called Collectible Grading Authority, who seem to make cases for all sorts of things. They look very similar to the BitLounger cases with the raised buffer piece. I was very pleased with the outcome. Price was high at an average 22$ plus 8$ shipping, though they do combine shipping to a point.

However, it annoys me seeing the case with the tab missing. Great video as usual man.

We are indeed going back into the design and making some adjustments. Honestly, I never meant to sell them with the intention of repeated opening & closing. But our photographer needed something to pop them open and closed, so we ended up tossing the little “key” into the package. Hence the name “Köffins” and the tagline “lay your games to rest” :P We also switched to extruded vs cast acrylic, which is softer and more likely to withstand repeated opening and closing.

Can't remember which old video I heard this on, but upshot was that these cases might not be as good as you'd think; Because they're airtight and residue or something which gets in there when closing it... stays there, and can damage the cardboard over time. Just something I hadn't thought of until I saw that video. I do like these. I have acrylic shelving for my smaller boxed games, full of PlayStation and Gameboy boxes. Those are well nice looking, clear acrylic. Were a bit pricey but treated myself to a couple of them the other year
@DiskCart

Indeed I think thats a good and fair point! Another thing to think about is uv coatings some people also sell acrylic boxes with that. Being that none of these are air tight Id probably only recommend them as display items and more or less dust protectors. I know for a fact the humdity in my state would get in there too if it werent dehumidified. @DiskCart
@DiskCart 3 года назад
Sealed is the best way to damage a game. These 3 allow for gases to come and leave so its up to the collection owner to monitor their own collection. Unsure what the companies like wata and other graders are doing now but they used to seal their games which seals in harmful gases and humidity. I also think graded video games is a terrible thing what a waste of a game someone could use. I may display my collection but I also play it.

Acrylic cement simply dissolves the surface, the edges bond, the solvent evaporates, and you’re left with a tight joint. Bubbles and imperfections in these joints is virtually unavoidable. For large displays (think retail and trade show), this is a non-issue. But on this scale, it’ll be an eyesore.

This is why we try really hard to avoid using acrylic cement in our products. As I’m sure you’re aware, I try to employ snap/tension fitment whenever possible. And when we do use adhesive, it’s sparingly and hidden from view. Our products are ever-evolving because of this, as we find new and refine current processes. This product line is still very new for us. I’ll make sure that it gets plenty of love as it grows :)
