Families are the foundation of our lives, and the very life of our nation. So, what does our government value most? Does family top - or even make - the list? Senator Marco Rubio lays out some critical ways we can reconstruct government policy to build a pro-family culture.

Donations to churches and synagogues helps! Food pantries and Salvation Army that helps with energy bills! It's great that families can look toward the government for help but even better when people don't have to depend on government. Lowering taxes has always been a key with Republicans. Resources and opportunities The way this federal government is going at this time in 2022 is tearing apart families! Child support laws are causing even further division in families! A heavy burden on the non custodial parent in many states! The government has made the non custodial parent "the enemy"! We ought to take a real good look at communities like the Amish! It used to be this way! People helping other people! It's more than a barn burning down, our society is not there for each other like we used to be! Government has never helped out the poor back in the day! It was communities that helped each other! Yes, sure...help the families in need but to a certain extent. People also need to plan ahead and be taught to do so! School children ought to be taught how to keep a bank account and how to save money and to work hard! LOOK AT WHERE WE ARE! People refusing to work? Since when was this the right thing to do! I will tell you! Hand outs from the government! Who ever reads my comment here, "like" Rubio's video...fine. But, put your money where your mouth is and donate to your community...your church, your synagogue, your food pantry, etc.! DO NOT THINK THAT THE GOVERNMENT WILL SAVE YOU!

Just adding here: Let's just imagine that a town has 20,000 people. 1/4 of the town needs some help. Whether it be for food, energy bills, medication, clothes, day care, etc. Not everybody needs the same sort of help, it varies. Let's say each person of about 15,000 people did the right thing and donated 10 bucks or so each week...or even once a month. 150,000 plus would be donated! And that is for a month! A year? $1800000! Non of that money is from the government and the money YOU donate can be used as a deduction on your taxes!

how about this to help families… increase child and earned income tax credit and a universal basic income and universal affordable housing and universal childcare and universal healthcare (while other modern countries do) and paid family and maternity leave … give a living wage and a shorter work week and overtime pay rule reform so they can spend more time with them.? what about the children shot down in schools? children getting killed in foreign countries and endless wars? making sure all kids can’t get lunch and have better food that taste decent and not expired? how about stop throwing lower income people in jail for soft core substances (nonviolent crime) so they can have a true opportunity to get a job, what about a federal job guarantee to those who can’t find one so that they can get a good paying job and actually have the finances to take care of themself and maybe actually be there for their family, if they have one? both the Republican and Democratic Party are terrible to common ordinary people

I would agree with Rubio more if he didn’t just present policies that support HIS model of family. We should support childbirth costs AND access to abortion, single AND double income households, and adoption equality. But it’s clear Rubio thinks the only families who should benefit from government assistance are the ones who conform to his model, because he wants to engineer culture instead of help all Americans.

@@godblessamerica9356 You’re free to name call and make assumptions about me all you like, but if you watch the video and listen to what Rubio says, he literally describes the sorts of families he thinks should benefit from certain policies, and leaves the family models and policies that I brought up out of the question. Just FYI, I’m a gay man. Abortion rights affect me far less than they do you, I’m assuming. I will likely never have children of my own, but my future husband and I might choose to adopt one day or have surrogate children. If we do, I’d love to have policies in place to ensure that the child we care for, and that other people’s children, have the same benefits as children of “traditional” families. Even if you think my husband and I don’t deserve to have kids, or will be worse parents, you can’t tell me in good faith that the child we bring into our home should suffer for it because politicians only want to support one model of family.
@godblessamerica9356
@godblessamerica9356 Год назад
@@geovaughan8261 I see. I asked you if you were daft because it’s not “engineering” culture when children are happiest born and raised and loved through their own biological parents together. That’s reality. My apologies except that you defend abortion which, you probably haven’t thought of this but, is about protecting men’s wants more than women and especially children… and basically, sadly, in the state of your desires, you defend a society which is only about consenting adults wanting kids no matter what, and puts the needs of children AFTER the “needs” and preferences of adults to put their own desires first, before the fundamental need of a child to be conceived and born and loved and raised by his or her own married genetic mother and father. It’s not my rules, it’s not my society to “reengineer.” You do you, though, but adults doing anything they want with their sex lives inflicts lots of long term problems on children. Just sayin.
@geovaughan8261
@geovaughan8261 Год назад
1. Who a child is happiest with has nothing to do with whether or not that child’s family should receive support to help care for them. If you really think single parents, gay couples and adoptive families are worse off then they should be getting MORE support to help offset that child’s increased hardship. Rubio seems to think the most deserving families are the ones already better off, not the ones who need more help. 2. What do you call it when the government incentivizes one very specific type of family and not any other for no justifiable reason? I call that engineering culture. Rubio wants one type of family to thrive in the US and no other, because he believes in a culture that reinforces the traditional family, not a culture that cares for all without respect to marital status, orientation or beliefs. But if you prefer another word that doesn’t speak towards motives, let’s call it “discrimination” instead. 3. When men have to carry a baby for nine months, have their lives put at risk and their bodies permanently changed by childbirth, have their time taken up by expectations of childcare and have to be dependent on their partner to provide for and support them if they’re unable to work, then I will agree that abortion benefits men more than women. But time and again it’s the woman who leaves her job to stay home, the woman who is expected to do most of the child rearing, and the woman who is left with the child if the man decides not to stick around. Being a father is far from easy, but the person whose body, career and life is more impacted by a child is the one who gives birth to the child, hands down. Additionally, in every case of abortion the woman is the one who has final say in whether she goes through with it, and it being her choice is to her benefit exclusively. Her husband or partner has zero legal say in the matter. At least for now anyway. I’m far from daft. For someone who never has to worry about abortion I’ve thought a LOT about its implications and the ideas Rubio presents here. I’m sure you are honestly arguing from a belief that your model of the world is the best and most correct one, but I cal tell you as a child of a single gay parent that I was happy, well loved and well raised, not only because my mother was an amazing person but because she was lucky enough to have the resources to provide for me. I think you’ll find that many different kinds of families can raise healthy and happy kids when they have enough support.

I'm sorry, Sen Rubio. No, expanding government social programs is NOT a sound approach for families. We DO need most households to be single-income homes. Homes in which the breadwinner spends as much time at home with his wife and children as at work. Expanding social welfare programs will not do this. Social welfare programs sound nice; they mostly function to give away money. Since government has no product or service to sell, money can only come from tax revenues. ..If we expand one social safety net to serve a larger portion of the populace, ..we must also increase the taxes on the same populace. We most need for married couples, husbands and wives, to choose lifestyles for themselves and their children which genuinely fit within their breadwinner's income. We most need for both men and women to recognize that they most need to raise their own children in their own home, instilling the values they hold most dear. Right now, our social safety net mostly encourages moral vice and negligence. Nobody has need to be virtuous because the State will always give them money for one reason or another. Only when each person must be financially responsible for their actions, including bearing and raising children, will society have any cause at all to seek virtue. I have generally understood Republicans to be advocates for financial and moral sense. Did the Mid-terms persuade someone to abandon those ideas? From this video, it certainly seems so. I'm very disappointed.

@@11_11.. Mr. Flaherty posted this " We DO need most households to be single-income homes. Homes in which the breadwinner spends as much time at home with his wife and children as at work." I phrased my response with same word order as his only I added that the breadwinner could be the wife. Why do you have such a hard time understanding that a married woman can make more money than her husband, thus making her the breadwinner? Stop putting the family unit in a box. She may work. He may stay home. Maybe one of them works from home. Breadwinning isn't necessarily restricted to a traditional office or factory job of 40 hours a week with a commute and a two week vacation. I think single income homes are great where one member earns a living wage that comfortably supports the needs of the entire family. It can be either adult (husband or wife) at any point during the marriage. Who knows? There are a myriad number of family situations. People's lives follow different trajectories, so try flexible thinking.

The answer to cultural change is not money. Incentivizing single parent homes is not the way to do that. We already have a welfare system that has encouraged the single parent epidemic we see across this nation. They earn more from one federal pay check than they would on their own if they were left to deal with consequences of their poor choice in relationships. We need to incentivize whole homes. A mother and father. Even if they both have incomes. Businesses have to be willing to allow those parents, mothers and fathers, to be present with their children when they are needed, instead of shaming those parents for not making them money. Perhaps they need to allow more flexible schedules for parents. Not childcare where the state can determine your child's values. School choice needs to be a thing also. There's no reason children should be sent to an F school, expect to comport themselves and perform admirably if there's no incentive to do so. The taxpayers should not fund those failing schools either. Incentiving merit, should be encourqged not the bigotrynof low expectation. I'm not sure what this video is, but it looks like Communist propaganda aimed at coddling the masses instead of giving them something better, and much more profoundly important to strive for, no matter how hard it is.
@johnflaherty9595
@johnflaherty9595 Год назад
I almost always cringe when I see a request for greater flexibility in schedules. For my experience, ..very few jobs have tasks which may be genuinely accomplished at different times from a "standard" work day. Ironically, the very same "retail-oriented" economy which allows us each to buy a product or service whenever we wish...ALSO means that someone must provide that product or service right then. People howl about the ravages of the 40s and 50s; precisely because people needed to wait until regular business hours, most people COULD spend more time away from work to enjoy their families.

Yes there are single parent families that may need help, and there are cases where the husband is disabled and can’t provide. They need assistance. Let’s encourage men to be men and provide. Reduce the costs for families so Mom’s can be home to raise and educate the children. It is a mindset that needs to shift. Feminism has helped destroy the family unit.
