That is why the whole US armed forces declares that family members should not serve in the same outfit or unit in combat, like what they did during Saving Private Ryan, the prelude they mentioned the Sullivans and the decision to split family members or siblings
@@williamstall4420 I know cost is a major factor, would love to see the US Navy, re-commission one or two battleships, and sail them through the South China Sea. Would be a terrific, and at the same time, what a sight.
Today modern warfare seriously needs alliances....the US can have all the Naval toys that the world envies but if you dont have alliances...like the RN on your side... youre doomed. This is a new level of Naval Power never seen before. Russia and China should be losing sleep over this alliance. Bc a strike on the UK is a strike on the US....same with Australia or Canada or even France. This is a serious threat to China and Russia.

@@sensibledriver933 The type 45 was designed from the outset as an air defence destroyer and, in that role, it is well ahead of the Arleigh Burke class and almost certainly the best in the world. It was designed to shoot down anything hostile in the sky with one shot. On any deployment, a type 45 would work in cooperation with a type 23 (or a successor class) which would provide the AS/surface defence capability. The AB class is a superb general purpose destroyer which is highly competent in all 3 roles: better than the type 45s in AS/surface capability, but not as good in the air defence role. The type 45s are also better in the low level warfare role due to their ability to embark a sizeable marine contingent and operate bigger helicopters such as the Chinook. The biggest weakness of the type 45 class is that there aren't enough of them. The Hobarts are good ships but not as good as the other 2 classes.
@@sensibledriver933 Against subs. Type 45 isn't a generalist like the AB (a fine platform), RN's type 26 will fulfil ASW and anti-ship roles better. At half the cost.
I only discovered why the USS The Sullivans was so name a couple of weeks ago. Sad story. Fantastic that they honoured those boys with this great ship.
It was named after the 5 Sullivan brothers (George, Francis, Joseph, Madison, and Albert) who were all Killed In Action aboard USS JUNEAU which was sunk by a Japanese submarine in the Battle of Guadalcanal. Their mother lost all 5 of her sons in one go. It is also the reason why, to this day, siblings can NOT serve on the same warship.@@hoilst265
Given the international situation and the domestic political situation in the United States I am damned glad that the Royal Navy is in these sensitive waters at this particular time. The Chinese hate the presence of that ship. They understand that the Royal Navy will be around all of the time from now on. Best wishes from the Sunshine State !
The UK and USA are brothers and China would be out of their minds to even debate how far we will go to protect each other and our joint interests. God bless America from Devon in England. 💪💙
Love how the Americans support and give the armed forces the best toles eqipment available to work with ..God bless them all like the British armed forces ....
God bless our American cousins, a bit worrying that the operations specialist can't understand British accents, I'm sure the pilots have neutral accents and speak in Queens English....
It is really difficult to understand some accents over comms, due to the nature of the tech. I'm British and talking to Scottish soldiers on the net is task in itself.

Apparently one Time when the US Marines and SAS were doing a training exercise in together the US Marines put a note on the door which read US Marines 2nd to nobody, and the SAS put a note on the door saying nobody
Haha, funny.. Although not much comes close to the SAS,SBS, RMC- Just can't compare, the British Marines are better trained than any infantrymen in the world but lack the number which is why they compliment the U.S Army nicely as they only ever fight with the US and for U.S interest these days..
True Story that mate well noted.. also when one U.S. CPO commented to me while i was gearing up for a helo drop, "You guys dont carry much kit do ya? " My reply. " What we lack in kit we make up for with skill"
Well the founding of modern US Special Forces was based on the SAS. In the 60s a US officer - Charles Beckwith, who'd served with the US Special Forces Group in Loas/Vietnam was sent as an exchange officer to the SAS who were operating with great success in Malaya. From this experience, he concluded that what were considered special forces of the US at the time (the Rangers and the Green Berets) were not of equal standard and on his return went on to form Delta Force in the 70s.
I didn't realize that a new US destroyer was named the Sullivans! I've visited the WW2 destroyer named after the five brothers in Buffalo New York and thought there is no way it's still active. So I looked it up and sure enough there it was. Amazingly this DDG-68 is very close in size to the USS Juneau, (Atlanta class light cruiser) that the Sullivan brothers served on.
She's not new, she was commissioned mid 1990s like almost 20 years ago but she was well maintained. The USN still constructing the Arleigh Burke class until today, there's almost 30 ships in the class
@@ramal5708 There are currently 68 active of the different flights of the Burke , building 7, 3 on order, with more to be ordered for a total of 89 at this point !
@@ThatCarGuy well Saving Private Ryan is basically after the US Department of War declared that no siblings or same members from a family should serve in same outfit or unit in combat. But the film shows how unlucky the brothers were when they all almost basically died almost the same time though they served in different units
We are witnessing a strategic commitment to interoperability on the part of the two seafaring powers. There's a great deal of synergy to be had and I doubt if any other two nations on earth could achieve it at this level of complexity. It's not a question of one needing the other in any kind of dependency for protection. It's that together these nations play a role greater than the sum of their parts.
_The Sullivans_ has an interesting battle flag-five gold stars on a white background with a red border. The flag design is called a service flag for families with members in the military and have different colored stars with different meanings. Blue means that a member is presently serving; gold denotes that a member died in service to the nation. The flag of _The Sullivans_ has five gold stars, each for the five Sullivan brothers killed when their cruiser USS _Juneau_ sank at Guadalcanal.
I believe that this incident is why the US military will no longer allow multiple siblings serve in the same combat unit. The O'Sullivans lost 5 brothers on one ship. How does a family deal with that??
First time US aircraft have flown from a British carrier since WWII. It's the biggest honour of my career sailing with this Carrier Strike Group,(CSG-21) and the Queen Elizabeth. That what I love about America Naval/Military Officers and personnel, they're always respectful about other Allies, but even more so when talking about the United Kingdom, the two countries with the closest of any two Equal Sovereign States on Earth, and with NATO and our Global Partners, especially the rest of The 5-i's, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
@worleykins3890 well my friend, that only because of population size differences....the UK are an awesome military, always been formidable for their size, hell, we work together as one, which makes our alliance a force to be reckoned with.
In the early stages of WW2 when America was not involved yet but was a large part of supplying the allies we had not yet built our Navy up and German U-boats were sinking our merchant ships left and right so the RN came across the pond to patrol and maintain supply lines and the safety of the merchants. To this day there is a small plot of land leased in perpetuity to the British Commonwealth in the Outer Banks that contains the remains of four RN Sailors that floated ashore after their patrol boat was sunk.
G.B's carriers are excellent blue water combatants. But What is also nice is properly protected their capability to slug it out toe to toe in tight waters and win.
It is great that the American sailors are working with all of our allies and everyone is prepared for war regardless of the region. I served 24 years in the Air Force and was glad to do so and would do it all over again if I was a young man.
I guess some of the commentators on this do not understand what belonging to NATO actually means! Supporting each other when needed is a principle core value. Also, a change in Navy strategy requires interoperability and so we shall see greater support from other NATO Allies also in the future. Navy's rarely operate in isolation these days, despite what the media may report.
The military never operate in isolation. In Afghanistan there were more than 60 nations in support. If a NATO member is in conflict the other NATO members will support. People think this is the movies where America saves the world by themselves😂
Better hope that support is there when it goes sideways since the US dollar is rapidly approaching collapse and that impressive Navy will be parked and unmanned.
@@neildavid10 Not really - The said nations were sending next to nothing in support, it was clearly political. The only real military support other than the U.S came from the UK.

Secret ?? well for sure that war canoe has many ? and one can see the advantage of having that war ship in that strike group, working in tandem with the F-35s where they can both integrate with each other by way of the Multifunction Advanced Data Link (MADL pronounced: MAHdel) and the ships Naval Integrated Fire Control-Counter Air concept (NIFC-CA) which basically allows the F-35 to target a threat and lay down target data tracks back to the destroyer in the strike group. That ship could then launch an SM-6 at the target only using the target data track and not its own radar. The same applies to any aircraft with the same integrated technology like the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye and the new B-21 which is designed to sit right on the edge of the battle space 24/7 all working as sensors and shooters to create a kill web , and one serious over the horizon threat ! engaging targets at max range and beyond their own sensors.
Yes, but it had been commissioned into the U.S. Navy so was actually a U.S. Navy ship. They mean the first time U.S.aircraft have been based on a foreign flagged warship.
Hmm, the Royal New Zealand Navy, Annual budget: $15 million dollars - The flagship of the fleet "RNZN Speed Boat 1" in all her glory could act as a missile shield for the HMS Queen Elizabeth.
All these arguments over who has the most powerful Navy now. I am a proud Birt and I am super proud of our naval forces, we have arguably the most sea faring experience in contrast to all of our allies. But I don’t agree we are the most powerful now, US is definitely way way stronger. I am just fortunate we are allied with them, together with our over seas allies we have a power not even China and Russia could hope to match. Much love to US and all of our allies. From your abnormally strong little brother Britain.
So, I wonder if the destroyer is really there to protect 18 billionish dollar worth of US assets (F-35s) along with the US personnel aboard the Queen Elizabeth who involved in the training of British pilots. Outside of a time of war or training exercises, I can't imagine either US or UK military assets under the command of an allied commander unless the ships were assigned to NATO operations/enforcement. I'm not military, but if it hasn't occurred within a decade then that was the Second Gulf War - Operation Iraqi Freedom. If someone can elucidate more, please do.
I don't care about the ongoing economic war against USA, Russia, China, UK etc. I name this four countries because they can sustain their own country without the help of other nations. Eg, Russia no longer care about economic sanctions as they can sustain themselves such as China, UK etc. But if any country dares to challenge and dares to counter Canada. I'm totally against those countries because according to my research, Canada is almost one of the top faithful believer of God and their faith is beyond imaginable. Canada people always visited us every year just for join worship to sing and praise God and spread the word of Jesus whereas other developed nations travel fun vacation, exploration etc Canadian travels just for Christ. They didn't visit exciting sites, views but instead they love spending time with us and with God without eying on any earthly materials, they sacrifice their money for spreading love. I love Canada and I'm gonna visit Canada and Israel one day for sure.
