Today we finish off the second fix of the Rewire we’ve been carrying out. Modify a Dewalt wall chaser to make it more efficient in thrashing out chases and protect so meter tails.

Nice work, I wish other sparkies would run their cables in conduit like you do because it makes future replacement easy to do without hacking half the wall out again. I know burying cables in plaster is generally acceptable but it seems like a backward practice. Its lovely to see a "proper" job done rather than an "acceptable" one.

@@Cjrelectrical I got the Dewalt over the Metabo for the same reason. Limited power on site and I don't like running a mains chaser off daisy chained extension leads. Just shove the Metabo blade in and let it chunk out the wall for you - mind if you don't have at least 4 batteries to cycle between it'll take you over a day to chase out a house.

Get yourself some metal countersinking bits! As for the tails, I'm not sure why they are running under the floor upstairs. As the house is stripped back and you have free rein, it would make sense to put the CU as close as possible to the intake. If I had to run the tails further than the DNO's limit of 2 or 3m before needing to fuse down, I would prefer to use 4c SWA and run the cable externally if possible.

The decision to keep the three combination storage heaters was because they are only a year old and very efficient. The reasoning behind not going with a heat pump is because the property is a 60s mediocre-insulated end terrace and I don't think I'd get the best out of a heat pump at this property. It had single glazing and wooden doors until last month! 🙈

Great to watch these uploads from yourself and others (JW, David Savery, Artisan & Thomas N) as it keeps us up to date as to what's available these days in the market. Would have liked to see you connect the tails in though. I know this is a grey area that you can't show too much of as it encourages rogue electricians and DIYers to mess about in a very dangerous area if a short was to occur. In that scenario I'd have had a 3 pole mcb in the meter enclosure with a 16mm 4 core swa into one DB with a 3 pole main switch and had it all in one board ,

@@Cjrelectrical yes one earthing conductor into one board , it's the same supply just 24hr and off peak , I would have installed one board and a 3 pole main switch but each to there own 👍

Tails seem to be run anywhere these days as long as you fuse them down but for me the shorter the better as if you get a muppet with a saw it won't matter is there not on the ceiling and if he / she cuts through the live with a hand saw it won't go bang immediately and they may grab a rad or pipe at the same time ( rare admitted ) but they could be Dead as a dodo as that 80 amp fuse ain't blowing any time soon ( swa all the way ) 👍

Hi .5 blades is making the motor do 2 and half times the work and ovbiously 2 and a half times the amount of dust you could find you will shorten the motor life . Good idea. tho. rgds Don

Will the supply be big enough to supply an EV charger and off peak tarrif heaters which will be on at the same time.

That’s a good point and one I will raise with the client. I might suggest an EV charger with current limiting capabilities

WHY NOT USE A WALL CHASER WITH TRIPLE BLADE AND SET DEPTH. Way easier and quicker than cut then chisel out
@Cjrelectrical
@Cjrelectrical 2 года назад
The triple blade alone is not affective on the Dewalt wall chaser.

Deciding between the metabo or the dewalt, cordless is desirable obviously but is it man enough for lots of chases ? I don’t want to spend £500 on 54v battery’s to keep the dewalt going. Thoughts please Christopher

So they have a smart meter that will supply the heaters at a cheaper rate of electricity.
@AndyK.1
@AndyK.1 2 года назад
The most common way is to get 7 hours of cheaper electricity at night. And the day price will be higher than average. The 2nd CU will only be Powered for 7 hours
@alexanderbuckland

@@AndyK.1 no longer true with smart meters. Powered 24/7 but it bills midnight to 7 AM one rate, then daytime a higher rate. No need for split CU.
