Here is something that you don't see every day on RU-vid;
the Fjallraven Abisko Summer Hat and it is time for my review!

Link : www.amazon.com/Fjallraven-Men...
Price : $50
Weight : 3oz for small size
Sizes : S- XL
Colors : Grey, Olive and Tan
Developed and tested during Lapland's Arctic summer, Fjallraven made the Abisko Summer Hat to shield the always-present sun from cooking your brain like an over-easy egg. The hat's wide brim folds onto the sides of the hat for less flapping when you're hiking, and an adjustable chinstrap secures it to your head. G-1000 Lite fabric isn't too heavy and allows excess sweat to evaporate. A UPF 40 rating ensures your dome won't burn when subjected to intense sunshine.
· G-1000 Lite (65% polyester, 35% cotton) fabric
· Wide brim can be folded and attached to sides with buttons
· Adjustable chinstrap with cordlock
· UPF 40
Note : Forget looking this hat up on the US Fjallraven website; to be honest, I have often found the site to be very poor and it can be hard to locate information on products. For an example, the Abisko hat can’t be located on their site even though the hat came direction from their distribution here in the states. I had this ordered locally
Note 2 : This is not the Fjallraven Hatfield Hat
Review :
Pros :
Wide Enough to offer excellent protection
Stiff Brim; not floppy.
Continues to wear well even when wet; not waterproof at all but does keep the rain out of your eyes. You could wax it but if you wax it you lose out on the breathable properties of the G1000
Breathable.
Excellent quality
Strong; the snaps have held up well and Im constantly adjusting this hat based on the changing conditions that we have here in the mountains.
Cons :
The low cut nature of this hat means that it isn’t going to be compatible with all sunglasses. Depending on the design, it may lift your sunglasses up because the hat is pressing down on the arms.

Remember the AmazonBasics 55L Backpack? You will be seeing more of it soon....pieces of it soon.... :D - Luke

ahahah, oooh. Considered getting one of those but fell into a bit of money right before and went with an osprey Atmos AG65. I do not regret this, especially since you posted your first vids on the amazonbasics ^^. price/quality ratio on those products is usually great, but for something like a backpack, you lose the savings in the long run. Unless you need it only once, which is why the few people I know with this bag got it in the first place. It has a market. It is not the people watching your channel tho :D

Last year I bought a Tilley Airflow Mesh Hat. After many years and half a dozen different sun hats, the Tilley is a perfect sun hat for me. I like the features of the Fjallraven Abisko but the cons will keep me from abandoning my Tilley. Plus, the Tilley comes with an amazing warranty.

Have a frog togs hat similar to this and love the light weight and packability. In the snapped position I keep a bug net on one side and a nylon neck gator on the other. When I need the brim down they either go inside the hat or in a pocket....but they are always with me. The packability....fold up small... was key for me.

Appreciate the honesty! I too have the skin cancer issue, hat is a necessity! I have one from Coolibar, about the same price if bought by itself, but when a conciliation prize it's free to $10. That said, I'm used to wearing boonies since early 70's but brim is not wide enough, Coolibar brim is wide enough but has too much downward angle, you would not like it.

Good review, I got myself one from Vinted, I'm in the UK and I buy all of my Fjällräven clothing from people who sell it on the Vinted app. I have bought trousers and shirts brand new, which were sold for cheap... The sellers on Vinted do not know the value of Fjällräven...

You could make it much more waterproof by applying DWR products from Gear Aid/Revivex, Nikwax, or maybe the best brand Atzko...I think I spelled that right. None of these DWRs will affect the breathability. Try Columbia Silver Ridge convertible zip off pants. Im going to be testing a similar hat from White Sierra that is permanently treated to repel and kill insects.

I can see from the comments there is a lot of brand loyalty to Tilley, which of course is good. I have this Fjallraven hat and I am really pleased with it. I’m from England, so this style of hat is not as common a sight as it is in the US or Australia for example, most likely due to our erratic summers. But, it does perform brilliantly in most circumstances, my only criticism is that in very hot strenuous hiking, it does make my head sweat, but I imagine this to similar with most hats and the fact that I have a shaven head! It’s very light, really well made and I love the fact that the Brim is so malleable without being floppy. I personally love the Olive colour, but I think there could be another colour option between the tan and olive, as I think the lighter colour would be less heat absorbing. And yes, like the Tilley, all Fjallraven products come with a Lifetime warranty from authorised sellers. Also, there is a good strap for securing under the chin and easy to adjust, or wear behind your back if you need.

I guess, as per usual, the Fjallraven product is only a little more expensive than most similar hats at the pricier end of the price spectrum. Of course, compared to the similar hats at the lower end of the price spectrum, the price seems absolutely ridiculous considering what you're getting. I think I got mine for about $12 when Kmart was clearing merchandise a couple of years ago. I don't know about the ones you can get at WalMart because the other one is still working fine. BTW, it's good that it advertises that UPF protection. Many is the time that an opaque hat resulted in horrible sunburn until we started using these more expensive materials ... said no one ... ever.

Bastien Hery In my opinion, just because a portion of mainstream society has adopted this variant of hat for casual fashion doesn’t mean that you should refrain from using a piece of gear for it’s intended use. Caring what the majority considers stylish or trending makes you no different than them.

With the dirt issue, could you Scotchgard it to help repel the dirt and stains ? I mean, if I wanted a natural camouflage pattern, I would have bought it that way. Also, I have used Kiwi Camp Dry on other boonie hats, and they have allowed the hat material to soak up the sweat and dry it out pretty readily. Would that be feasible with this hat ? Thank you for the review. Keep up the great work !
@DeBeuLioU
@DeBeuLioU 5 лет назад
you could also just wax it, but as Luke said in the vid, waterproofing it means killing the G-1000 breathability. Except for my everyday winter jacket that I wear on its own, I really do not like coating my G-1000 products. It's always better to have a super cheapo synthetic layer to put over it. But hey, this might be a summer hat, but if for you that means little heat and frequent rain, you can either coat the hat, or get one better suited for your climate.
@DeBeuLioU
@DeBeuLioU 5 лет назад
and as for sweat, G-1000 might not be waterproof, but it dries stupidly fast, so yes, it'll absorb and dry :)

How about a rain cover for a cowboy hat to keep this hat dry when it rains, you can buy them as cheap as a few dollars on Amazon, they cover complete hat, brim and all, and when it stops raining, pull it off and your hat will still be dry as will your head? Just a thought.
@Pooch1953
@Pooch1953 5 лет назад
If it is not water proof then it has more airflow than a waterproof hat, and you would only be using a rain cover temporarily. You put on a rain jacket, or poncho when it rains and don't worry about airflow, why not on your head too?

Well fifty dollars is an insane cost for the hat.. I have a twenty five year old military surplus hat that looks like this hat. It isn’t as lite of course because of material.. however on the other hand I can soak the hat and evaporation will cool your head. A summer hat.. The snap up side is for shooting sports originally . It is mostly an artifact now and serves no real purpose but is a good place to put a flash.. I agree with the dark color thing! My hat is military drab... next to black drab green really soaks up heat! White or yellow would make better sense but we are too tacticool to go with colors that make sense. We all know that we are more likely to run into things where we want people to see us. I can’t remember the last time I had to crawl up and cut a guards throat... But... if I was in the market for a fifty dollar field hat I would consider this hat...

The best bush hat I ever had was a Stetson Beaver cowboy hat. I got rid of the cowboy curl and had the best head protection ever: waterproof, sun proof, eye protection (bushwhacking) and protection from fishing lures (it deflected many a hook - except the last one, which opened the crown. Yes it was sometimes hot, but the soft leather inner band comfortably took the shape of your head. They are expensive, but if not grabbed by fish hooks, will become a family heirloom. The expense is far better value than a $135 titanium kettle, and it has more benefits

Nice hat. Don't be too anxious to clean the dirt off. Sweat and dirt give a hat its character. Other than the occasional, unexpected dip in a trout stream, I washed my Tilley last year for the second time in 23 years. The hat did not survive the second washing so I sent it back to Tilley. They replaced it for free and my new Tilley and I embarked on a series of adventures last year. It proudly displays a few streaks and perspiration stains although it did whimper a little when I used it to bust my way through some thick underbrush. Love my Tilley!

It's interesting you like a hat to the point you changed to a type of sunglasses that most people don't even know exist. Did you look at the Shelta Seahawk or the Condor (has a bit wider brim). I mention those two because they are boonie style hats like the one you are reviewing and it solves all the cons you mention. They have others but the top of the those hats is round (like a human head) and I don't like that style and I don't need the aerodynamics.
