all that stuff seems so random but works together perfectly somehow.. to be honest i would like to hear some more ambient type stuff but stuff you can hear you know, like the part right at the end of the video for example, i love it. and shit, this is inspiring!
Thank you for sharing your techno-creative process. I've been dabbling with Audacity awhile so watching what you were doing with Protools resonated. Rock on brother.
This is awesome. I've been learning about production and it's so interesting to see you go through it and explain each process and especially what led you to it.
Watching these Pro tools clips makes me wonder how Devin performed his sound carving tasks before that. Imagine similiar movie about the recording process made with ADAT, Atari ST with Cubase etc. Protools makes it way too easy :)
Awesome. Thanks for sharing these great insights to the work. I love how these glimpses really make us feel as though we are in the 'era' of the DTP; as if 'Ki' is an ongoing thing, not just the album you made 2 albums ago. Amazing to see how much stuff is actually going on! \m/
Dev, thanks so much for doin these vids, its awesome seeing how much you put into these sessions. Id love to hear how progress is coming on deconstruction
I would love to see how he builds some of the low-end sub energy in his songs. It was more apparent in the Strapping cds, but he still has quite a bit of it on songs like Planet of the Apes. It's a sub drop, but it builds so well. Nobody does it like Devin.
@poopynuggeteer I just wanted to say you're a massive inspiration sir and I can't stop listening to KI and Addicted. Very cool to see that you're active on this site!
Terminal? Slow me down? Solar Winds? Pleaaaaaaaaaase Dev :D I love these vids, as a Pro Tools user i love to see the fact you're using alot of the stock plug ins to do some of the stuff! Makes it feel like that sound is a little bit more achievable than i thought :D
I would be eternally grateful if you were to do one of these for "Grace" ...but I know you're a busy man, anything you do is greatly appreciated :) thank you for everything!
I miss a lot of these nuances you program into your music because i usually have everything cranked up to ludicrous listening volume, so people in the cars next to me lose their fillings. Great music Devin, you've become my fave artist by far.
@nrb6666 Isn't it pretty clear in these vids that he uses both but mainly Pro Tools.. Logic more for effects and stuff. Awesome stuff, thanks for sharing some of your techniques.
Would you be able to do some more of these mix run throughs for some other songs? theres so much stuff hidden within it that i've never noticed before!
@MuikuliWander well not necessarily, in some videos he has used both for different purposes, i just was wondering which he thought was better for audio instead of just effects, as logic is a bit half asses in recording audio from my experience, amazing with MIDI, but pro tools is Shit with MIDI and amazing with Audio.
Interesting to see a ProTools session - I've only ever used Logic. Dev, do you tend to only use software plugins for compression and EQ etc. or do you like to use hardware as well?
Devin, in your experience, out of the two which do you prefer and why? Logic or Pro Tools, im currently studying Logic at my college for Production. Love you and your music man, take care and all the best! regards-Nath
Amazing. Thanks for sharing this. Question, how do you manage your guitar stereo when you're recording at home? What kind of interface do you use? I'm using an M-Audio interface with a POD XT Live. I can't get the stereo effects from the POD to carry over to the actual recording... it's total poop.
"formants" is more like "form-ents". instead of "aunts" it´s "ents". also, what did you use for the pod xtl patch? sounds nice! i´m guessing you never actually reply to anything in youtube, but hey! :P
Why not recording the album from your computer? why you call it a demo that you need to re do it in a Studio? now in this days as far I know with this technology you can make an Album at home! Im just curious probably Im wrong!
Dev, I would pay a lot of money for a dvd of a couple of hours or so of this stuff! I'm sure others would be the same, possibly an extra potential income for ya!! just an idea! x x
