Your videos have been so helpful bro. A couple of months ago I was at a target store and I saw that they had one on sale for 3 bucks. It caught my eye. So I asked the guy that worked there why was it on sale and he said because it was beat up, it was dying and now one wanted it and I thought to my self "me too plant, me too". I don't know anything about plants I didn't even know the actual name of the plant. He said it was called a succulent. But after a few of your videos I figured it was a jade plant which is a succulent. Thanks to your video on how to propagate I was able to save it. It grew even in the winter. Now I'm looking to save other plants and bring some light to my home. Keep it up 👍🏻

The actual name for this plant is Crassula Ovata! And the name jade is just a common name also known as money tree, in china Crassula Ovata is seen as a lucky plant and is given to someone who has just moved into a new home as it’s seen to bring luck and money to the new owner ! I could be wrong with that “fact” i’m sure that is what I’ve heard from the lovely lady at the Chinese Takeaway hehe

Fun fact!, Jade plants emit positive 'chi', the powerful energy which is known from east culture: Fengshui. Fengshui is a power that draws parallels with nature. Based on nature to figure out this power 'Fengshui'. You might be heard 'chi' before in Chinese Kungfu. That is the exact thing that martial artists get from nature. Jade plants as a plant, come from nature and the eastern believe that jade plants are the symbol of wealth, luck, and prosperity. So they are often used as gifts for housewarmings, particularly for businessmen. The Lucky jade indoor plants that influence the culture have been established as the trend of plants. So, the main reason for keeping the plants at home or office is to welcome luck. Many Chinese establishments, restaurants and enterprises have jade plants right to the door. They are considered to bring in customers, which will boost the revenue.

This was really helpful, our Jade insists on growing in one direction and has taken over the windowsill. what do you recommended doing when the stems grew long and lost most of their leaves betwee in the tip and buttom? Can I still trim without having leaves above, so basically leave the stem leafless? ( Reason why I removed the leaves was because they turned brown due to overwatering most likely. I checked the room, replanted into new soil yesterday and am afraid of stressing the plant too much at once?

Is it possible that my jade is just too young to prune yet? How old should they be and when do I know when it’s ready for a prune? I'm trying to prune a jade plant into a cascade bonsai. Normally, jade bonsai are grown with super thick trunks to mimic large trees, but mine wants to grow off to the side and down for some reason, so I'm just going with it. All bonsai look better the thicker the tunk is, and it's typically recommended to grow them outdoors in large pots or even planting them in the ground for one or more seasons in full sun. Let them grow out like crazy, but keep them pruned back. Once the trunk has developed to sufficient size, uproot and train into bonsai. This is typical of bonsai in general as I understand it. Last year I had my jade growing out in full sun, and it responded well.

Depends on the look you want. An early prune will make it branch out quite low to the soil so you'll have a fairly short trunk. Other option is to let it grow a bit more and then prune to give it more of a tree like shape. Regular pruning thickens the trunk over time

I was gifted a jade plant with quite a long trunk... it only has a few small branches at the top of 10" thin trunk. Quite lanky! So should I just lop the top off and abandon the long trunk? Any other ideas?

I’d be tempted to cut the lanky trunk off and propagate it and then see if the existing plant grows new stems, which it might. They grow roots easily. I’ve got a Jade propagation video on the channel somewhere

I would love some advice about saving my very old jade. The stem is very thick and dieing at the soil level.

Does it need a repot?

@@SheffieldMadePlants it is dying at the soil line and I think the roots are dying too.

@@peggypingel6644 is it rotting then? Maybe too much water? I’d check the roots out

The roots were gone. I cut it off. See what I can salvage. It is a plant from 1984ish.

It pains me when you and others butcher these plants 😢 They’re meant to grow wild as nature does and don’t think intended to be controlled for the sake of aesthetic.

Why is it butchering?
