I’m new to growing muscadine and found your channel. Love your videos, it’s simple, easy, direct and basic ways to grow muscadine. Got lots of good information. Thank you!
I was out cutting the grass today and had the very experience you described of having some of my long Muscadine vines grabbed by the lawnmower. It got me thinking about whether or not I could prune the vines in summer. That question led me to a Google search, which led me to your site. Based on your comments, it seems like summer pruning is fine. I’m hoping it will lead to bigger fruit as well as fewer lawnmower issues. My plan is to prune the vines soon ( hopefully on a somewhat cool day, which may be hard in Mississippi in July) and to use a hedge trimmer to do the job a little faster.
Oh my goodness, I blink an eye are your muscadines are touching the ground! I was on vacation for a week in Texas and this is what I miss!. I am catching up and enjoying the videos. Thx for sharing. Your videos always put a smile on my face. Hugs to Y'all
Hey Shane great video.I just got my 2-300' rows of muscadine Vines on drip and man that's a game changer! My Vines aren't quite as big as yours yet but hope to start putting the fertilizer to them and the water.Good to see the fruits of your labor and your well on your way to a u-pick.
Hey Shane, your Muskies are looking GREAT! Oh no😱 ! You worked so hard on them. Maybe give them time👍. I see Folks covering there Blueberries with a row cover type net around here. That must be for the Birds. JO JO IN VT 💕😄
Great video! Thanks for all the information! Something I have used is St, Gabreil Organic Milky Spores. It is a game changer for the Japanese beetle. It is easy to use and doesnt harm other insects or animals, it only kills Japanese Beetle larve. Just follow the directions, It is easy and quick to use.
Nice channel! i've got a huge Musadine that I am not sure how to go at. Trunk on the thing is is more like a tree stump. Hopefully I can get it producing next year.
so all that leaf stuff you took off do you compost it or feed it to the fowls ??? looks great hugssssssss nvmd you answered me later on in the video lol
The grapes are looking good, I have one trellis in a hoop shape I may try planting grapes at each end to meet in the middle if my beans don't start growing up the trellis soon. When is the best time to plant grapes? I just want some sweet seedless ones, red, green doesn't matter. Oh and I was waiting on ya Monday I must of missed you saying you weren't going live, I was ready lol! Much love from So.Cal.💟
Thanks for your video! There's not much out there about summer pruning. Your video was quite helpful. What do you do with all your muscadine grapes at harvest time? Btw, Ison's rocks!
Thanks, I'll definately check out your wine videos! I love to make jelly from the muscadines too. I don't have anywhere near the amount of plants you have!
Great videos, very well done! Dallas, GA here. Found you by looking for if it's OK to prune back muscadines in summer before harvest to be able to walk through and mow grass in the rows and pick easier. I have Ison and one Albemarle which UGA says is iffy here, but it's a large, beautiful, sweet, firm berry for eating. All my vines are absolutely loaded this year. Fertilized in spring and used calcium nitrate a few weeks ago when grapes were about small marble sized. Hope my wires and posts are strong enough. I've had problems with deer and raccoons in the last few years cleaning me out seemingly overnight when things get ripe. Do you have any ideas for that? Thanks. Mike.
Yep, set traps now for raccoons and I bought some solar motion activated alarms to hang around my rows. I guess they work never really had a big problem with deer. But we hunt them to. I thought about getting some wind chimes to put out there. Good luck this year we are loaded to
Hey Shane- newbie here- thanks for all your excellent videos. Question: late this past Winter, I pruned all my vines for first time (first planted the spring before 8' apart) to train them to grow up our chain link fence and across top 4' both directions, keeping a spur every 4", etc. I've had lush growth this summer but no grapes! Is this normal for first year after pruning? Or should I have trimmed back the vines this summer to force growth of grapes? any guidance appreciated. Thanks again for all your great content.
Trimming in summer want force grapes to grow. 2nd yr plants sometimes want put on. We have some Black Beauty that was 4th yr. Just depends on. The variety. Keep up the work on them and don't give up. Prune in February. Fertilize with 10 10 10 April 1st and May June and July and the 15th of those months use Calcium Nitrate. I. The spring you should see tiny clusters of little pollen sacks that will turn into your grapes. I hope you have a self fertle amongst the 2 that would help a ton. Female plants will struggle without one. Good luck and keep me posted
Hey there. I was wondering if you had the you pick it going for your muscadines? I would love to visit and see what’s going on. I have one plant and am inspired to improve my operations next season!
I’ve enjoyed watching your channel for a while now…Saw you on the RU-vidrs get together meeting. Hopefully My channel develops well enough to get to go to the next one…It looks like a lot of fun.
Thanks. You can space how ever you like its basically so you can get down the rows to cut gras and stuff. I keep mine at 8 ft wide so I can squeeze a couple extra rows in
@@KinfolkFarmofGeorgia yeah I followed the recommendation of 12 feet. I should have done 8 or 9 to squeeze in 1 or 2 more. Lol. I guess 5 varieties will do, but now they're teasing me with new varieties like ruby crisp. Oh well. That should be plenty. My great grandma had two or three and we always had plenty of grapes. The good Lord provides.
We probably will have 50% of the grapes we had last year. Beetles are the worst I have ever seen so maybe that is having an impact. We haven't finished bottling all the wine we put up last year, 48 gallons, so less grapes this year won't be too bad. Some of the grapes I got from Ison's this year are almost down the wire and some haven't even reached the wire. It doesn't seem to be a varietal issue other than all the Carlos plants are doing well. That's just farming.
@@KinfolkFarmofGeorgia we give virtually all of ours to friends. Most people want a sweet wine and the bronze seem to work best for that. It's a lot of fun but, like most hobbies, it's expensive to get started. Any time you want a few bottles just let me know. We bottled 11 gallons last weekend so we haven't given it all away yet.
Summer pruning wont affect muscadine growth? Just asking cause leaves take in sunlight for growth but at same time too much vine robs muscadine growth.
Oh wow this is an old video. Haven't done bees in a while. But we tried a chemical once and can't remember the name but I hated it so we went to a powder sugar shake and let them clean them selves and seemed to work really well
I planted a muscadine vine about 2 years ago now..i pruned it back alot in february, it is a new vine starting out, my vine is now growing nuts but no fruit producing. Any ideas why?
Should be a lot of tiny pollen sacs about to bust open and then the fruit will be producing. Keep an eye on them and some they will be putting out tiny little flowers which will in turn be your 🍇
@KinfolkFarmofGeorgia thanks for the response..May have to look closer it has really grown triple this year compared to last. How do you deter birds!? They stole blueberries all year last year so I had to net bag them but this bag isn't going to fit this vine. The fake owls are a waste..I caught a bird sitting on its head!🤦♀️
I've done a GREAT JOB W/Ur place, I'm so knew to Ur Channel that I don't even know if Ur married or not. I don't think that U R, because U seem like Ur lacking in that area. I'm not sure why, because U've got it all going on.......
