The Prusa Mini arrived with the Minda probe not set at the proper height, even though the Prusa manual says it's already set. So, I suggest using this video and the Prusa manual to adjust your Minda probe before you do your first, first layer cal or Mesh bed level. Just to be sure.

You DEFINITELY want to do a 1st layer calibration before printing! Thanks for the video, it was a lot of help!

Thanks so much, I was fighting this a lot and the Zip tie was the perfect size to get this right, thanks!!!

The exact thickness isn't critical, you just need something that's thin enough that the sensor will end up close to the height of the nozzle, but thick enough that the printer has time to stop when moving down (before the nozzle hits the bed). The final height is set by the "first layer calibration" / "Z-adjust" parameter, so you _can_ use something thinner or thicker (within a -2 / +2 mm margin - I think that's the range available in the menu).

Nice video, thanks. If you could do one video how to do extrude idler calibration - that would be so super great. This in not expalined anywhere for Prusa mini that has a totally different extrusion system than mk3 etc

I wouldn't recommend placing your credit/debit card on the bed. You run the risk of damaging or completely destroying your card because of the high powered magnets Prusa uses in their beds. Unless of course you possess a card that does not have a magnetic strip on it.

Just got my printer. My printer likes to print like 1cm above the bed and I tried adjusting the pinda but I still need like a -1.4 offset
@Zelrick42
@Zelrick42 4 года назад
The offset is fine, the first layer is the important part.

Thanks - used this on my old Mk2 and god my Z offset to zero :) right height zip tie i guess :)

You DONT want a z offset of zero???

Why not gauge the nozzle height at the same time verse the touch and eagle eye method?
@Zelrick42
@Zelrick42 4 года назад
Because, I’ve tried the measure and do the math way. Rarely works, so you end up with touch and watch anyhow. Might as well start there. I’m sure someone out there has the perfect algorithm to do it, I don’t.

Is this considered auto bed leveling or do you still have to level the bed somehow besides the probe itself?
@Zelrick42
@Zelrick42 4 года назад
It is what is considered Auto Bed Leveling. Really like all fixed bed printers, it creates a mesh that tells the z axis how to adjust to make the nozzle stay at a consistent height from the bed. It works extremely well and you will never want to go back to a manual bed leveling set up ever again. I have some sort of Auto bed leveling all the printers that I use regularly.

So what is the difference from edge of menda sensor to tip of nozzle? Is is even or -.05mm?
@hillfortherstudios2757
@hillfortherstudios2757 3 года назад
The difference will be the thickness of the object that you placed under the sensor. In the case of this video, it was the thickness of the ziptie. If you run a 1st layer calibration afterward, the offset will be very close to this thickness amount.

trying this out now, my probe was way to far down i think, even after the 2 mm adjustment, my nozzle was like 3 mm above the bed

this really has been a life saver! after this adjustment and switching to a new roll of pla+, printer is working perfectly and cranking out prints like a beast, thanks a ton!

What is the difference between a M.I.N.D.A probe and a P.I.N.D.A probe? I asked google and all I got was mind probe??

From what info I can find they are the same, Joseph just decided to call the Mini's MINDA with the M standing for Mini

EDIT: I see it does look like you are using the print sheet when running the mesh bed leveling, it just looks different that the one I have which is probably the Mini+. I noticed that you did the automatic mesh bed leveling without the build plate attached, is that what should be done after adjusting the MINDA? I adjusted my MINDA last night but when I go to do the mesh bed leveling the MINDA seems to be way too far away from the bed. I haven't done a first layer calibration since I adjusted but it just seems strange that the mesh bed leveling has the MINDA so far away from the bed. I feel like that is throwing everything off for whatever reason. I do have my MINDA slightly above my nozzle like this video showed but still that's my issue as of right now.
@Zelrick42
@Zelrick42 3 года назад
I suggest you do a first layer cal. The actual distance from the build plate isn't an exact thing and I tend to run my Pinda/Mina probes higher than most, (I don't want them running into a model as it's printing.). The probe just needs to be in range to work effectively, If you can run a Mesh bed leveling or the wizard successfully, all is good. Don't get wrapped around the axel on trying to get the probe at some exact height. I use a Zip tie and they vary in thickness from manufacturer to manufacturer. I could have used precision measuring equipment, but it's not necessary. Also the offset you end up with when doing a first layer cal isn't something to worry about either. you will find forums that claim that it's an issue, it's not. The various sheets that I use on my Mk3s have offsets that vary from -.6 to -2.3. All that matters is that the machine delivers a consistent first layer.

@@Zelrick42 Thanks for the quick reply! I have defiantly been caught up on an exact height of some sort. The issue before that had led me to adjusting the MINDA was my Z height was as far down as it could go and I wasn't getting a good first layer at all as the nozzle was still too far away from the print bed. Again I appreciate the help and quick response!
@RFC-3514
@RFC-3514 2 года назад
@@Zelrick42 - The sensor will never "run into a model while printing", because it's always _higher_ than the nozzle, and the nozzle is always at the height of the highest layer. For the sensor to hit a model being printed, the nozzle itself would have to be pushing down into the model. And if the sensor was lower than the nozzle, you wouldn't be able to print the first layer at all.
