Guys... please follow his support settings i just finished printing 3 days worth of parts and i accidentally left the sheath setting checked. These supports are one of the most annoying things i have had to work on, im actually having to dremel into them in order to remove them. If you're newer to 3d printing like myself, i would recommend opening the program and saveing his settings it's a game changer when printing intricate parts and cosplay props. My goodness i wish i watched this before printing the parts smh. Thank you so much for this amazing video, i will definitley click your videos for more info when needed. +1 sub
This is the most "concise" explanation out there, and I appreciate it. I said "concise" because you made Spnal Tap, Strong like bull" and "little houses made of ticky tacky" references, which I really really appreciate, but makes the video run to 11, not 10. :)
@@3DMusketeers did you use a reference to Stevie wonder being able to see how bad the supports are? Btw, unrelated to this but who else cares, i printed to a Prusa mini+ on my way to CES the other day from 37000 feet using octoeverywhere. That might set the record for altitude to terrestrial printing. (They print in the ISS but those are sent from earth up.)
I have certainly made jokes at Stevie's expense, but no, it is Earth Wind and Fire day (21st of September) so I put as many EWF references are I could and even hold up the proper albums when doing it. Pretty cool!
Great job on PrusaSlicer supports. Each point was specific, detailed, straight-forward, and clearly explained. This is my new favorite 3d printing channel!
Great video. I have had issues with my supports fusing to my prints. Unchecking wrapped supports was key. Thank you. I’ve subscribed and put on those notifications.
You're welcome! 2.4 is going to change the game on this so we will have to update it, but man 2.4 alphas are great! If you are willing to play around it can be fun.
Great tutorial! Just switched from cura to prusaslicer and love it but I was having problems with the supports. Definitely subscribing and joining the modeler's Patreon! Thanks for the videos! 👍👍👍
Great Tutorial. Just got Prusa slicer. Did simplify 3d go belly up ? Haven’t been able to get and answers on their support. They stopped updating printer profiles at ender 5. 🤔
They are technically still around, but nothing lately in terms of updates. This video is due for a refresh though, it is quite old at this point. As for S3D, you have to make your own profiles. That is just part of the 'fun' lol
@@3DMusketeers thank you, i didn’t actually look at the date of the video, but it provided just what i was looking for! The auto supports in prusa are definitely insane!
Coming back to this, how do you figure out what's a good retraction needed? I don't see stringing on my prints but I do get scarring when using supports.
@@3DMusketeers Oh man, you actually responded, Thank you!. Really appreciate your stuff. So I ran a retraction test and it was damn near perfect. I'm in the process of running some organic tree support tests to see which one is best, trying to get the right Z distance
@@3DMusketeers now I need a video on "where did you put your nut driver?" I clogged my nozzle and since this is my first printer I didn't have any tools. So I got the bit (I didn't have any metric).........and my nut driver is missing. sigh....... I know I have one, but seriously!! I'm so anxious to use the MMU2S. I JUST BARELY got it working when this happened. And it wasn't the MMU's fault. I was printing a single filament heat tower because I never used silk before. I didn't even finish the lowest section. But it had already been acting up. I didn't have any cleaning tools and I think it needed it badly. I have them now! I've had in addition to test/calibration objects.....2 successful prints with the horrible boring silver (non silk) PLA that came with the printer and that's it. lol
Ha, I need a video for that too.. I even have a space where the tools go but I forget to put them back, use them elsewhere, etc. Silk acts odd, it is not the easiest to print. Take your time and you will get it!
How in the world do you get your support settings to not be greyed out after you've sliced a model???? I just want to change the support angle but once i slice it's greyed it and i can't change it unless i completely close prusaslicer and start all over again. This is driving me nuts and making the bugs I'm dealing with in cura 5.5 much more pleasant. I'm REALLY trying to give prusaslicer an honest go but it's just so obtuse at times.
You know, I'm not sure.. I have expert mode r advanced, whatever the red mode is called, active so maybe that's what it's for? Also do you have the supports enabled in there or no?
@@3DMusketeers Supports are definitely enabled and I can get them to work, however once I slice I just cannot alter some settings unless I abandon the project, close and relaunch. I assume it's either a bug in my copy or something failed on installation and I'm planning on doing a re-install....but It's been such an unpleasant and frustrating experience with this slicer that it's hard for me to justify putting in any more time trying to figure it out. With that said, when it slices it seems good, although the amount of filament used is significantly higher than in cura, which is why I like to adjust settings and re-slice. I'm not knocking prusaslicer but the logic used for the UI doesn't "feel" right to me. I have to be honest, if prusaslicer was my first experience in slicing I would have NEVER gone any further with 3D printing and just said "Nope. this isn't for me".
Very helpful. After watching, I am still a little confused about Pattern Angle. You mention that you it depends on the model and that we need to make changes. Could you provide examples?
Sure. Models where the area that needs support is parallel to your support angle will have a lower chance of success than ones where the support pattern angle is either perpendicular or 45 degrees, or really any other angle. We traditionally run 45 degrees for this reason, but on models that have a bunch of interior support you should take this into account as it may be more difficult to remove it all at angles like that.
@@3DMusketeers I only just downloaded it thanks to your videos on it, so I'm not sure when they added it. They don't mention the addition of paint on supports in the change log, but they merged with prusa slicer 2.3.0 (the version PS added it) back in may, so that's probably when they got it. Edit: Sorry they merged with 2.3 in february but only got the paint on at the end of may, with their release of 2.3.56, which also changed some of the UI
@@3DMusketeers hmm weird.. mine just notified me that there is a new release (came out yesterday) so if it was broken it seems to be fixed in the newer versions 🤔
Amazing video about support settings. I am just a little confused, with the latest release of prusaslicer (2.4.2) I cant see support enforcers highlited in blue when I auto generate enforcements. Is there like a setting I am missing? Or did PS just remove the feature
It is still there when you do paint on supports. you just have to look where the blue may be. You wont likely see it from looking straight on at the part.
I noticed that the lower lid on your left eye is very red. I wonder if you are using resin printers? Photokeratitis is a condition caused by exposure to UV light. Resin printers use UV light to cure the resin. You also have blue eyes, which would make you more susceptible. The result would be like having a headache in your eyes. It’s like a sunburn on your retina. Which is actually what it is. I hope you read this. Dunno if I am right but pieces fit. If you have resin printers, since your irises are so light blue colored, it will cause this much faster.
I just looked at your other vids about this. Sorry you are in pain. You are in a room full of mildly toxicity, and particulate. Get out of that room man.! The UV doesn’t help. Stay outside for a long time.
I hate setting up supports for my resin prints. The first 3 weeks I was struggling with it and couldnt manage to get one successful print out of my printer. A friend of mine suggested some change in the settings and after that I got successful some stuff out. But darn, I still hate these. Prusa Slicer also likes to put supports on places, which makes no sense (supports arent drawn in the end...) So the "connection points" look all messy and all over the place. Dont know for fdm printing thou. Since Im not allowed to get a mini (have to get the SL1->SL1S upgrade first^^)
We find that for resin PrusaSlicer does a great job at orienting and placing supports, we do normally turn it to like 250% though for density. That video is coming soon! Resin is coming next week!
I had a resin printer for a while but I just got so sick of the fumes and the mess, plus so many failed prints, finally just switched for an FDM and am already loving it. True, prints are less smooth. But less risk of cancer!
@powersprouter it's definitely not for everyone. It's actually why I'm still worried that it's low price point will hinder the printers being adopted because people don't understand the risks involved. Just make sure you have a decent FDM printer and it should be a good experience!
@@3DMusketeers Loving my Prusa!! Kit build of course. Buying a pre-built would be like ZZ Top without the beards - like, yes it's rock and roll, but kinda missing the point.... LOL :) Liking your channel, thank you
I far prefer PrusaSlicer's interface and the way profiles work, over Cura (and SuperSlicer didn't impress me, it felt like they change some PrusaSlicer language and options that didn't need to be changed, and just ends up confusing me, but I also admit I didn't try it for long as it crashed a few times on me). Unfortunately, I haven't had amazing luck with supports, compared to Cura. With Cura, the support material practically falls right off the model... I will try the settings you mentioned the next time I need to print something with support.
Supports can definitely be tricky, if you want, you can email or tweet at us (@3D_Musketeers) I would be happy to look at your support settings and see how they compare!
@@3DMusketeers yay, been thinking of doing a slicer "setup" shoot out. for custom, non prefab printers/profiles. in reality they are all damn good these days and any one of them if you spend the time to tune is going to give you awesome results.
Well aren't you pleasant. Seems the idea of explaining things is lost here.. if you are looking for answers with no explanation I recommend Facebook groups. Their toxicity should fit well too! Enjoy!
