What about if the hard drive is corrupted and keeps logging when loading

What’s the device called that he puts the hdd into to plug it into a pc via usb ?

My son unplugged the external hard drive while I was restoring the old hard drives info onto the new one. I tried going into safe mode and restore it to factory but it says my files are corrupted. But I just downloaded them from the ps website last night and they worked just fine.

So what would you have done next if the hard drive was good and the unit is broken? I am at this problem. I get no video out on mine, USB ports all read 0 volts. For a second it did light up a controller but then it went away. I tested it with a multimeter and I'm reading 0.0v. System YLOD, chips were all reballed, yellow light gone but not getting power for controller and no video. Tried video reset mode and nothing. If I stick the drive in another system it will format it so if he had to replace his system, what would be the next step to recovering the save game data. Because the games are not an issue they can be re downloaded but the saves..... well.. lol Any help would be AWESOME !!! and gain you a subscriber and follower.

Thanks for this very informative and easy to follow video. My predicament: I wanted to upgrade my storage. I connected me PS3 drive to my PC and accidentally clicked on MBR/GUID partition. I'm not sure which one. I have make an image file of the disk like you said in this video, as backup at least. How do I change the partition back to FAT so my PS3 can see it again? Can I 'burn' this image to a HDD to use in the PS3 or will it have the same partition problem? Can I at least get my save game files? I can download and install the games again and forget about my apps and media.

I'm pretty sure you can't conventionally copy an image of a drive to another drive, ps3 would ask to reformat it upon plugging it in.

firstly why would you even put a PS3 on a fireplace mantle this could have been avoided by putting the PS3 on a lower area like a tv stand of course kids are kids and they will make mistakes for anyone reading this that has kids and has there ps3 on a mantle piece for the love of god move it so you don't have to buy a new PS3 from a high fall But nice video on how to fix this issue i had no idea you could use linux ill be sure to try it in the future when ever my hdd kicks the bucket sorry if my comment came across as rude just making my opinion

when ever I turn on my PS3 nothing shows up on the screen and the PS3 acts like its frozen ( when I try to turn it off I have to hold the power button ) and when I try to go into the recovery menu it wont load.
