PS4 Controller Wont Turn On In Safe Mode

Watch this video before going out, and buying a new controller, thinking that it's broken, because it won't connect. Unfortunately, I've seen this a bunch of times now, and I decided to put a short video together showing the issue. When in safe mode, you are forced to connect your controller with a USB cable. There are cables out there that are "Charge Only", and will not let you sync the controller to your PS4. Before getting upset, make sure your connectors are clean, and make sure you have a good "Data" USB cable.

I've tried quite literally 30 cables so i don't know how they build a cable that doesn't work for data transfer. In those 30 cables half of them are new out the box

If you've tried that many cables... then you may indeed have a bad USB port in the controller.

You helped me save my PS4 when it wouldn't boot up! I had to try a number of cables in safe mode for my controller before I got lucky and found one that wasn't charge only. After wards the reinstallation process went very smooth!

I would strongly recommend belkin or anker cords that are braided and I tend to find braided cords last alot longer then not non braided cords.

I tend to agree with that. The one I use when I'm normally working at the bench (the white one in the video) is a braided cable.

If they require a specific cable they need to provide it. Spent hours trying to connect a new controller that didn’t come with a cord. Ludacris. The fire stick USB one finally worked.

It's not really a specific cord.... it just needs to be a full USB data cord. And, the one it originally came with did work.

I don't have many cables available to me and unfortunately I can't pay for new cables right now, so I'm working with what I have for now, and so far none of the different fixes I've tried have worked for me

Idk what im doing wrong but ive tried 5 different cables that used to work before and now just charge the controller. Something wierd is that when i press the button it blinks white for a millisecond and goes back to charging, but nothing happens on the screen. Ive tried this on 3 different controllers so im just guessing its the console (this worked like 2 weeks ago so idk what made it glich out)

Thank you. Thought the PS4 was goosed. I was trying loads of connectors but couldn’t get the controller to connect. Used the cable for my Fire-stick following you’re advice on cables and automatically it worked. Safe mode menu appeared and I was able to update and get rid of the frozen error screen

I tried several different usb cables, and on a blog a guy said to change the hdmi port that was connected. I don't know what the relationship is, but it worked perfectly, my controller started working again in safe mode using the same cable that came with the console 8 years ago. I hope it helps

The the PS4 thinks the OS is corrupt. OR... the harddrive is dead. Either way, you will have to reinstall your OS. (Sorry) you will know quickly if the HHD is dead, as it will hang as it tries to install. You can watch my video on installing a new HDD, and it will walk you through the install process.

Thks for your video you are right it is just the cord I tried everything following the instructions of a lot of video's i watched and nothing worked spent days on it ,I even bought a new cord and it didn't work , I must of just bought another charging cord, I started looking for other cords around the house and found one from a camera i had and it was thicker and it work so thks very much for your data

I bought a original cable from best buy that transmits data and still didn't work but I don't think it's the cable it's when the controller is plugged in the ps button doesn't work

I'm having this problem but I've tried 10 different cables. even an old Xbox 360 cable that was used to charge those controllers and was working. Do you have a recommended cable from amazon i could get? thanks.

Verify that the controller works using this link: gamepad-tester.com/ You should be able to plug it into your pc and see it work. If not, there could be an issue with the controller itself.

I am having thsi problem but i knoe the cord isnt charge only cause i often use it to move my controllers between my playstations and i tried to do a software uodate and when the ps4 restarted it came back in safe mode amd when i tried to plug in my control it charged but it wouldn't turn in while connected tobthe cord

You could have a bad USB port.... but that normally isn't the issue.

my ps4 randomly just turned off last night the usb port was fine last night I’ve tried so many different cables and different controllers but I’m stuck in safe mode and it says connect the DualShock 4 using the USB cable and then press the PS button. My ps4 has had no issues for ages but now I can’t get it to work

I just charged him for a software reinstall. (30 min labor) In my shop, I generally don't charge for diagnostic, and I told him up front that it was probably just a bad USB cable since I knew the controller was working, and charging before he swapped the hard drive. Thanks for watching.

I just now got a problem with my USB cable to try and rebuild my database for my PS4 cuz my 2 terabyte hard drive has stopped working but it was working for me yesterday but it just stopped working today so I don't know what to do should i get a new external hard drive or usb cable or a new ps4 cuz this is a first for me

You could have a damaged port in the controller. but... I would still try to find a new , tight fitting cable, and give it another go.

Hey I have a problem, I’m taking out my old ps4 to use it again. However, when I try to update a game for example and leave my ps4 alone the ps4 light turns white and my ps4 controller light is off and when I press the home button it blinks white, and won’t connect. Then I’d have to unplug my power cord from my ps4 and it will work again, but eventually it will turn back off after I stop using it and won’t reconnect unless I unplug the power cord almost as it were freezing. I’m starting to think this is more of a ps4 problem then a controller problem. What should I do?

Try resetting the controller. But, you may have a bad bluetooth chip in your PS4

@@PghGameFixso im having the same issues with my sons ps4. It kept saying ill the files were corrupted to delete them and them redownload them so he did and then it became an everyday occurrence. I am stuck in safe mode right now and the controller isn't responding when I push the ps4 button...so how do you know whether a usb cable is charging only or if it transfers data as well?!?
