I never quite understood why people try putting missing trace wire UNDER the pads… in a case like this, soldering the jumper wires after placing the port seems so much easier than trying to balance the port on a wire and solder masking it down. Thanks for showing your method! I’m about to do the same (with broken hdmi legs too!)

Hi Andrew! This was an awesome video for such a great fix! I was wondering if you'd have any tips on replacing pads 19 through 17? I wasn't sure how to obtain a connection since the vias are above the pad and the HDMI port will end up sitting on them. Any tips would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Got almost all my pads missing, well most are there but have lifted. I gave this a go on a pcb prototype board and junk ic, it didn’t go too badly for my first attempt, but the only enamelled wire I had was awg 38. It was like using a human hair. No strength in the wire at all. Today I have awg 30 arriving along with 10 cheap hdmi ports from Farrell. I can have a lot more practice before I try the actual PS4 replacement hdmi. Could you tell me exactly what sort of wire you use for these repairs please? Many thanks, your vids have been a great help

Thanks again for the great video Andrew. These always make my day. I really hope it’s okay, but I have a small question in relation to a different component within the device. On a base ps4 unit that I have, one of the metal poles within the ac in seems to wiggle a little bit. I’m not entirely sure if it’s just the plastic surrounding it that just warped over time. Or if it’s something else. Manipulating the power cable doesn’t cause it to shut off. But if you can I would genuinely appreciate your take on it.

Been looking for this specific video so I can repair my Nintendo 3ds XL motherboard; unfortunately, my issue is that the copper has been lifted and it leads towards an adjacent resistor which I had to eventually desolder. Kind of sucks when the pad rips off with the SMDs.

Hi, Could I maybe ask a silly question, when soldering a round wire to a flat pin, would it be an idea to just tap the end of the wire so it’s flat. I have taken off a 28pin ic, 232R, and it has quite a few pads missing, some have no trace to the missing pads. Would you suggest buying a kit of different size pads, as I have to make a connection under the ic, as can’t see the point in putting a pad on, if it has no connection. Lastly what size is your enameled wire, and price please. Many thanks for a really good video, very well thought out, with a lot of experience, you make it look very easy, well done, Barry

Hi Sir! What a repair! Fantastic job, only with good tools, good microscope and steady hands it could be done. I would like to ask if it could be done with a cheap chinese USB microscope in the 30 euro range. I would like to ask also if you could run the wire through the via and solder it from the other side of the board, could it make a better mechanical connection? Many thanks!
@AndrewPaul
@AndrewPaul 4 года назад
Yes you can use a cheap USB scope if you can mount it above the board - my first one was practically one of those before I upgraded it. As for running the wire through the via, yes absolutely - there's nothing to prevent you from doing that if you'd prefer but using the via on the same side doesn't tend to present any issues.

Hi, Andrew, I'd like a little advice I have been following some of your videos I have a Yihua 853D would u consider this a good hot-air station? it's been good for most things it has melted the solder fine on one board and no pads came off so I am pretty confident the hot air station is up to the job although I tried another board and solder pin 8 was torn from the board what heat would you recommend for a clean job the setting is currently 460 also what size attachment would you recommend would it be safe to pump the hot air to 500 I am not sure how accurate the machine is but it seems quite a good one for a price. What is the best hot air station under £250 that you recommend for beginners? I really appreciate the hard work that goes into your videos I have bought some of that wire that you recommended I went for 0.25mm and 0.40mm would this be of a good size I also ordered a fiberglass pen I would love to learn more about HDMI replacement looking out for some more PS4s I understand it's only easy repair if no pads come up and the part can be put right in. can I ask do pads ever come up even for experts like yourself or have u learned to avoid this problem completely. I would like a recommendation on a hot air station I have been cutting bits of wires and trying to place them where id like them to go this video makes it look so easy to do u recommend putting flux down first to help the wire stick I will watch your video a few more times I am trying to repair an HDMI port that is only missing pad 8 I feel if I had put the heat up more and never touched the part with tweezers and just let it fall out on its own the pad might have stayed tact. I can not afford an expensive microscope currently I won't be recording or anything like that what is the cheapest microscope that will work for beginners thanks.

The 853D is fine for beginners and hobbyist repairs. I started off with one and it still works great now, albeit with a replacement gun and iron but the machine itself never let me down, I just outgrew mine ;)

Andrewwwwww! Great video as usual. It actually helped me with a PlayStation I'm working on right now. I wanted to ask you for some advice if possible. The pins 10&12 are showing continuity ( using a good multimeter) I have jumped each line of traces from the top of the board (like above )and even to the back. I even bypassed the hdmi video coils on the back no change. I took off the Encoder still no change and then even replaced it and still no change. I have even jumped the pads under the encoder for 10&12 to the hdmi pin pads. All other values show to be correct do you have any knowledge of this or a great fix. Just do not know where else to look, besides myself and another colleague your the guy to talk to with the experience. Possible the pads for 10&12 below encoder is where it starts or middle just have no clue where that would run to. Any input would help and thank you in advanced. As well please keep posting the great videos very informative, trust ur making a good mark in the console board industry.

Hello again Andrew. As always, great job! Just had a quick question....and please feel free to not answer if you're not comfortable. Also, you can DM me if that makes it ok....but here it is... What did you charge the customer for this repair? I know when I get a console like this it is usually someone that thinks "Hey, this looks easy enough, I'm going to do it myself." and then this happens. I know the repairs aren't that bad when you know what you're doing, but I do not charge the same rate (not even close) for a normal port repair against something like this mess. Let me know if you can. I will tell you what i would charge for this specific repair as well. Just want to see. Thank you, and soon you should be at 10k subs mate!!!!!!

Hi Andrew. Just really to pick your brains as I've taken on another ebay project that has a faulty HDMI problem. I had a good look at your vids and followed the tutorial in removing the HDMI port from the board and managed to do it with no damage to the pads and have some more ports on the way. However I've gone through the vids to try and diagnose further and the small resistor next to the diode on the right is an open line in diode mode. I'm inclined to think that the HD chip has a fault however I've also checked the diode itself and couldn't see any shorts on it or on pin 13. I've also checked the other diodes on the circuit and they are both working as they should as far as I can see and have also checked the caps for shorts as well and couldn't find any so it could just be that one resistor. I'm just wondering if there's anywhere else I should check before going any further.

The MAC address isn't easily changed - I'm guessing you want to do this as you have a banned console. Unfortunately you need more than a MAC change if this is the case, and it would involve changing all sorts of things from the APU / Syscon / NOR / BD-ROM logic board / controller IC depending on console revision, hard disk drive etc. Just not worth it - if you have a banned console, I'd get a new console if PSN is important for you.
