there are smart ones who actually solder their own boards. but today's boards ain't easy to work on as it is small parts, not like way back.

Low melt solder? Not a bad idea. I thought it was just for "airless" desoldering of ICs. I have just been using hot air to remove RJ45 and microUSB connectors and so far so good, but I do worry about overheating, so I mask with kapton. Thanks for the tip!

Great stuff. I am a new subscriber so I haven't watched more than about 10-15 videos yet. Sorry if this question has been posted many times already. I wanted to ask, do you use an ultrasonic cleaner in your shop? If yes, can you just put an entire PS4 mainboard in, or are there some components on there that you rather not want to clean that way?

My PS4 also have the Same Issue, it turn ON and Turns OFF in 2 Seconds. But Sometimes it Work perfectly. I haven't gave it to Repair. Can you help me with this?

Hot air is not always a solution for SMD soldering. That is why first guy melted the connector :) Proper flux and solder is though.

How do these boards get assembled in factories? It seems like a very hard process for a robot to do this stuff you are doing so how is it automated in the industry?

What type of solder would I need to use on a pc motherboard .. switching out the 16x pci slot u use low melt soldering to remove what type would I need on a pc board for the replacement soldering

Hi any chance you could help me I have a samsung 50 inch plasma ps50c450b1w. With intermittently remote control working I have tried 2 new controllers and new batteries. I have fitted a new ir sensor inside the tv .and still have the same issue .all looks ok within the tv. Any ideas where to look now

Seems crazy people send you stuff without any information and it appears without any confirmation that you can or are willing to accept the device and fix it. There has to be some type of communication before hand right?

Hey i have a similar problem. i struggled to remove the hdmi port although i did a lot of them. that lifted pins etc and i repaired everything and made sure no shorts are their. but the ps4 is turning off after a while. fan tries to spin but not spinning ok. Any suggestions? can a damaged part cause a shut down?

I don't understand how people attempt these repairs and get solder and flux all over the other side of the board and burn out components that aren't anywhere near the repair area. Honestly, you should just give up if you burn something 12 inches away.

The liquid isn't to remove the solder, it's to cleanup in general. I believe it is isopropyl alcohol. That's what I use, at least.

I have a ps3 with a massive short to ground on the hdmi port (hdmi port is not working, and the audio lines on the av out some how are not working due to that, no short on the av out though) and with that massive short in most of the data lines my ps3 still boot and show a picture on screen trough av out, consoles are definively getting more fragile with each new gen. I almost forget to thank you for the video, i'm learning a lot from you.

That low melt solder is a must. I did an Xbox one without it. I did manage to do the job. But i used excessive heat. I got lucky.

Couldn't you just remove the bridges that provoked the short in the original port then kept it in the console? The short destroys the port completely to the point of needing a replacement in this case?

The port was probably working fine (if bridges removed), but as he explained he wants to return the hardware in best condition possible. New HDMI port looks better. :)
