All of this looks like normal break in/ finish wear. And is completely normal. You should see my friends sam7sf after 600 rounds. There’s nothing wrong with the locking surfaces and the chamber. The Russians must laugh at us for what we get worked up over. I would keep shooting it and only if something breaks I would send it back to palmetto.

The wear on the bolt face is definitely normal wear, but that localized gash on the extractor and the barrel throat is some nasty business. Something's outta wack here for sure, but looking like this at 2k rounds, I'd say PSA have done a lot better this time around than their previous AKs lol

Yeah, he didn't even check headspace or even allude to it. Sending it back in for what is right now only aesthetic reasons is counterintuitive to the purpose of a X thousand rounds review. The point is to try and find the rifles breaking point, not the point at which the rifle looks as if it may break.

I’m not going to lie, the wear on this looks totally fine. My Beryl, Sam5, SLR107 and SLR95 are pretty much on par with this and one of the main point that you didn’t focus on which is the locking surface on the right side of the receiver which in the blurry picture actually looks really good. Especially if you didn’t have any failures, I think the rifle is good and you just sent it back for normal wear
@0Asterite0
@0Asterite0 Год назад
That's not normal wear. My slr104fr, 5.56 beryl, 5.45 vepr, amd other AKs do not wear like that on the bolt face, barrel face, or extractor. Either the barrel isnt oriented correctly, or it's miscut.

The gun has went bang two thousand times consecutively and it's a failure? Shoot it until it doesn't go bang. PSA will make it good. Sounds like you complain too much and are trying to mooch more ammo out of PSA.

The wear isn’t that bad tbh. It’s not going to hurt it at all it was just head spaced a little tight which is a good thing. Get a headspace gauge and if it passed then run it dude.
@superfamilyallosauridae6505
finish is there for a reason.... the wear is absolutely that bad, and destroying the finish on critical components means this can't be a serious rifle, only a range toy. which sucks, because if they did their jobs just a little better, the gun wouldn't show this wear, even using the same components, and it wouldn't be nearly as silly to use this as a serious rifle.
@devin3156

@@superfamilyallosauridae6505 not entirely true. High quality steel can resist rusting just fine on its own. Which is exactly what hammer forged 4340AQ is. Finish never stays on bolts and trunnions. Not even on com block Ak’s. There are aks in use all over the world with practically no finish all beat to shit and they are just fine. Not to mention back in the day all guns used bare steel and didn’t rust. Because There is a thing called maintenance and paired with high quality steel rust is not an issue.

I havent shot mine yet. Im interested to know if you can rack a fully loaded ac unity 556 mag without binding? Racking mine with 30 in the mag causes the brass around the neck to deform as the bolt rides back. The 29th is also beat up by the bolt as well. Just rack and release the mag to check.

I’m struggling to see the issue with some of the worn parts you’re identifying. Besides the extractor I’m not seeing anything besides finish wear which is normal. I couldn’t see the right locking lug of the front trunnion. If there’s bad degradation there that’s an issue. If the bolt lugs are shearing metal or becoming deformed that’s an issue.

After looking at some of your pictures this is one thing I can conclude. It looks as if the extractor relief cut on your barrel is done improperly. The gouge on the extractor and barrel face are on the edge by the looks of the pictures. So as the bolt is rotating to lock position is contacting the shoulder where the extractor relief cut ends. That cur should be more vertical yours seems to be in the 10 to 4 o'clock position where as it should be more towards 11 and 5.
@paulpaulie
@paulpaulie Год назад
I think they might have messed the “orientation” up. Mine is similar and 102 is clocked more at the 11oclock position on left side ridge. I did some checking head space etc. all passes. Took some marking compound and extractor doesn’t contact when loaded, only touches when empty racking etc etc. Mine wore a little and stopped after 50-100.

I paused at the 4:13 mark to post this comment. I have no idea what's wrong. All I see is finish wear which is of no concern. The gash in the extractor claw is slightly concerning but again it appears to be at a spot that wouldn't affect anything. I am very critical of PSAs quality control and customer service...let it be known and I will not accept bullshit either but I'm not seeing anything that warrants a warranty repair as of yet. Please correct me if I'm wrong but that is a TULA mag that is designed for 5.45x39? It won't work without a 556 follower and I'd be surprised if it worked with 556 follower. Bolt tail peening looked normal drom last video. Did I just hear you say it fired every round?
@0Asterite0
@0Asterite0 Год назад
The gash in the extractor is happening because it's slamming into the cut in the barrel face. Either the barrel orientation is wrong, or the space wasnt cut properly. It should not be gouging the extractor, and the bolt+barrel face should not be wearing so unevenly like that.
@superfamilyallosauridae6505
These bolts and QC seem to be PSA's downfall in these AKs. I'm sure these guns would be perfectly fine if all the specs were right and stuff that aren't supposed to be grinding each other weren't. The "chamfer" on the gen 1.5 PSAK-74s demonstrated a complete lack of understanding on how AKs work inside. Basically, all that was happening was the bolts were trying to lock too early. AK bolt cam lugs sit on a flat part of the cam path which prevents them from trying to lock early. This is why the bolts don't try to rotate while they're still stripping the round out of the mag, bending the shit out of the various rails, they can't rotate. A ramp on the left side of the front trunnion slides against a ramp on one of the bolt lugs, and the bolt is rotated so the cam lug is no longer on the flat bit. Then, the bolt is pushed back by the force of the projectile on the bolt face and the barrel and etc on teh bolt face, rotating and ultimately locking the bolt. ALL THEY HAD TO DO WAS GRIND A BIT OF THAT RAMP OFF SO IT LOCKED LATER. Instead, they fucking cut the corner of the trunnion. Completely unnecessary, and not a solution at all. Fortunately, looks like they're no longer doing that stupid shit. Still, it's extremely silly and preventable issues like that which are holding them back. Once they figure them out, I'll buy a PSAK-74 and PSAK-101, because KUSA has gown down the dark path and my preferred source of AK101s and 74s is shit now.

Alright, I watched to the end. Why did you send in the gun? It works. If you get anything more from them then I'll be sparking up some videos to see what I get because I have dealt with far more bullshit than you are dealing with. Do you return your cars to the dealership and demand your money back when your tires are bald after 200k miles? I would take that rifle to war and you sent it in for repair. They have my 105 in warranty right now for keyholing at 10 yards. I send in guns for warranty with them once a year probably for screws coming out and they won't send a screw to me or keyholing. My friend is sending his AKV in because his firing pin keeps getting destroyed somehow. Did I miss something with this review? It even shoots from tula 5.45 mags? What a beast of a gun. I'd ask for it back untouched. I'll give you 800 for it.

Did you not see the gun eating itself to death? You think all that bare metal before the 2k mark is normal? I've owned many aks and have never seen that
@kalashnicarolina220
@kalashnicarolina220 Год назад
@AgoodenoughGunner it looks like finish wear. 2k rounds would/could do that. I have 5 PSA aks. My gf5 carrier tail is curled downward...still works. They'd replace carrier if I asked. Pics aren't great so maybe I missed something but it looks like finish coming off which is normal on the bolt face. For the lugs...they need to be monitored but only if there are issues. Trunion lugs too. I feel like you were a little too picky based on the pics. Make sure you lather those lugs with grease. Gun will throw excess grease so it's hard to overdo it. I wouldn't put any on the bolt face thou. I don't put up with PSA bullshit either but I wouldn't have sent it in I don't think.
@kalashnicarolina220
@kalashnicarolina220 Год назад
@AgoodenoughGunner I didn't even want to send in my 105 for keyholing. I wanted to run it at Winter motherland which was an AK match hosted by PSA last Saturday. Keyholing was occurring with 69 grain 5.45 and not 59 grain. They insisted I send it in thou. I think I'm getting a new barrel. Been 5 weeks. Handguard screws fall out and get lost and they won't send me a pack of screws so I have to send in my rifles which really makes me mad. They finally sent me a pack of screws for my GF4 14.5 pin and weld model with dumb jlbillet Handguard. They originally told me I had to send it in but I fussed enough and they sent a whole pack. That's what I get...screws and you get 1k rounds. Lol

I recently got a PSA AK101. It didn’t even make it 200 rounds before the firing pin seized up in the bolt. The firing pin was progressively getting worse by having light primer strikes here and there, then eventually wouldn’t fire any rounds. I also noticed a weird amount of brass flakes/small brass shavings in the receiver. Dealing with customer service over the past few days has been pretty slow. Not too pumped right now.

That is the same Tool Craft trunnions that are in the 101 models they have listed right now. Personally I think it’s a 1 in 20 chance you’ll receive one of these 101’s with metal internals that aren’t up to spec from the batches they overlooked during production. Im not sure of the size or number of trunnions/bolts that are batched per production line, but it would be nice to see them hammer out the weaker forgings/heat treated parts out of that production line more consistently.
