+Daniel Boggs It amazes me how things go in and out of stock with PSA. You'd think they would make enough build kits to go with their barreled receiver AKs, right? You may have to get a gen 2 kit and then order the front sight post stuff separate.
+darink300zx I think what I'm probably going to do is pick up an ALG trigger and cheap polymer furniture from Palmetto and source mil surp stuff for all the rest elsewhere...it's going to be a range toy/wild pig rifle...I'm still going to buy an Arsenal SAM7R, Vepr, or Zastava as my heavy abuse type AK. But, at the price point for the Palmetto, I have no complaints.
+Daniel Boggs Yeah, that's a solid plan. I can't remember if I mentioned it in any of the vids I did on this gun, but I think I would have done that in hindsight, built up the PSA barreled receiver from other parts. I'm actually picking up an OPAP tomorrow, just paid off the layaway. I'll likely do a video on it soon, keep an eye out.
Glad to see your build has turned out good so far! Cast is known to crack some times. But then again it may last forever. That's a matter of proper amount of alloys and casting procedures. Sure forged is probably the best way to go. But I really wouldn't sweat it at all. Its a gun you built to say you did yourself. And not your go to war rifle! I think it turned out pretty damn good!
I've got about 850 through mine so far and no issues at all. I actually enjoy shooting my PSA over my DDI. I don't know why, but the PSA seems to be a softer shooting gun. maybe the recoil spring is stronger in the PSA?
+Robert Kieran Good to hear of others' experience with these. I agree with you they are very nice shooters. I know one thing, not sure if it's because the trigger is not a G2 or what, but the action is smoother in this gun than my other AK rifles, doesn't tend to hang up as the bolt is going forward as much. Thanks for watching and the comment.
I have a gen2 one I just got only have 90rds through and I noticed the front right side of the trunnion (where the right bolt lug locks) has some deformed wear like the metal looks really mushroomed. I couldn't see a clear view in your ak but I saw some shinny part in the same area.. does it have any wear on the right side of the front trunnion?
Hector Lopez short answer is I can't tell you because I have since sold this project to fund another gun. I will say that I examined this gun closely every time I cleaned it and never noticed any abnormal wear. I'm not saying for sure that mine wasn't wearing where you say, but if it did it didn't look abnormal to me. I hope that helps.
+Greg Stabler, take a look at my other videos about that for more in depth impressions of it, but I'd say it could be tackled by anyone who is competent with using a file, screwdriver, and rubber mallet, lol. Seriously though, the hard stuff PSA does for you, riveted trunnions, barrel pressed in, rails attached, etc, but there did require some fitting of some of the parts to the gun to get them to fit and function. Don't get me wrong this "build" was much easier than building an AK from a parts kit, much easier, but I wouldn't say this didn't go without any issues. It can be done by a beginner though, would I recommend you try it? I don't know, that's for you to decide. Worse case scenario you get it and feel you are over your head, take it and the parts to your local gunsmith and I wouldn't think they would charge much to put it together.
+darink300zx Thanks for replying, if that is all it is then I may give it a shot, I'm waiting for Rob Ski to review the Gen2 and I'll decide then. I like the wood on your build.
+Greg Stabler yeah, the cast trunnions on these are really the only cause for concern, hopefully the gen 2 will have forged. I've not had any issues with mine, but many feel this is a weak point. The finish on mine is very nice and I'd rate it up there with most any ak out there for that. I don't think you would be unhappy with one.
I paid 259.99 for mine. After shipping and ffl transfer I was right at 300 bucks. I thought this was a pretty good deal. The parts kit to finish it out, also from psa, was like 280, because of the red wood. The polymer furniture kit was like 200 I think. So in all you could do this gun for 500 to 600 bucks depending on the furniture. Oh and FYI, on PSA website you can add an out of stock item to the compare list and then when you click on compare it shows you what it last sold for, as long as the item is still showing on their website that is.
