Those commenting here saying other people "witnessed the abuse" - that is NOT true. No one ever said they witnessed anything. NO ONE. Now, several of you will attempt to mention Helen Hayes, June Allyson or Kirk Douglas - but NONE of them said they saw abuse. NONE. Everyone IN THE HOME denied Christina's Lies.
Many levels of Alcoholic abusive behavior from a parent within a family were unfortunately justified as displinarian structure.J Crawford probably fearful her daughter Christina youth and career potential. OF course still doesn't make her cruelty correct.
@@barbaracastelli9695Lana Turner😂. Who cares what she thinks? She was a slut and a bad morher. Crawford never hooked up with the mafia and allowed her daughter to stab a man to death. Turner did.
It seems Lucille Lesueur had a miserable childhood, but eventually made it big as Joan Crawford. Problem is, she didn't have the guidance and emotional intelligence to be grounded and make her a good mother. I wonder why she felt the need to have children (look at the sad life of Shirley Maclaine's daughter who was sent off to Japan). Some say it was to copy Gloria Swanson, who also adopted. Most of the big stars were so focussed on their careers, you wonder how they could properly raise a child, let alone four.
She needed a good therapist and help with her bipolar....I have great empathy for her...she used sex and alcohol to self medicate her symptoms. Emotionally, Joan was a child herself and treated her children as she was treated... that's what she knew...she was her mother
Good work...finding a Redbook article from 1960 a whole 17 years before Joan Crawford passed away. The revolt of Christina started way back when, long before the will was revealed. Ironically or not the movie rendition of the book shows Joan bringing Christina home from Chadwick where a writer from Redbook was there to do a piece on Joan. The article you have found gives evidence of the very public feud already brewing between movie star and daughter of movie star who wanted very much to be a star at that time. I no longer wonder why she was cut out of the will, and neither should she.
I dont understand because according to this article it is reading like Joan was not the best to Christina either and this article was before she passed away. I would never say this about my child. I don't believe that Christina lied about everything nor do I believe that Joan could be blamed for everything.
you have no idea what you are talking about. children and teens revolt when they are mistreated and abused at home. of course she would revolt. Besides, Joan was in her 30's when she seduced jackie cooper who was barely 16. Charlie Chaplin also liked the younger ones. He married Lita Grey when she was 15 and he was 29. Charlie fled to Europe to escape being prosecuted. Joan Crawford should have went to prison for you-know-what.
In the biography of M. Dietrich tells her daughter it was public that Joan Crawford hit her children. All the fired server of the house. Another actress, and visitor of the house speak from a " irrational" behavior about her children. I think Joan has behind the time of MGM Problems with her carier about her alkoholproblem. And you see in her play her behavior often agressiv . The daughter tells from agressiv men / partner in her live. I think its about her childhood with a incomplete sozialisation. I remember a different story of another actress with carrierproblem and then alcoholism. And a friend of her tell she was a verry friendly person but with alkohol she become the behavior of a devil. And alkohol destroy the brain and so perhaps at long time the personality.
Allyson recalled a lunch at Joan's Brentwood house. She briefly described that she saw Joan punish Christina using "the silent treatment" and that Christina had to stay home from a friend's birthday party. NONE of what Allyson described witnessing is abuse.
Wtf do u know???? Why so God damn invested in a sociopathic dead actress, her adopted daughters memoir and a fay dunaway movie???? You need to get a life.@ChristinaCrawfordLied
I agree. And she just looks evil. She was a rough person. It’s said that she was jealous of other women and when her daughter started to become a woman Joan became jealous. I have personal experience with this.
What happened was her mother treating her like she did...... poorly....it played a game on her mind as a child ....so she found a way to retaliate as an adult ....& It wasn't good 😊
@@shellytracy5396 That is an OUTRIGHT LIE. Name these biographies. You can't and won't because they do NOT exist. I have researched this topic for over 20 years. You're lying.
@@ChristinaCrawfordLied Lana Turner's daughter was on Phil Donahue show and he asked her if she believed Christina and she asked her mother Lana Turner and she said yes it's true.
Christina documented several times in which Joan Crawford was drunk at home (the Chadwick years) and at Don The Beachcomber's. Margaret O' Brien stated that Joan had to be assisted out of a restaurant because she had too much to drink. O' Brien personally witnessed that. Betsy Palmer stated that during the filming of Queen Bee, Palmer received calls at 7am instructing her (Palmer) to come in to work, becaue Crawford could not be filmed due to her "boozing" all night with John Ireland. While referring to the filming of Torch Song, Charles Walters stated, "..Supposed to start at nine in the morning, at about a quarter of nine, the assistant said Joan would like to see you in her dressing room. I went in, she's dressed but she's like this (leans forward in a stiff, tense pose), she says, 'I am petrified, I cannot get off this stool, I cannont get out of the dre-, I (stuttering) I can't. I know it's terrible, but could I have a little vodka?' I said, 'Honey, anything that's going to relax you, the routine is down pat, we're lit, we're ready to go, have a little slug if it's going to help you, Honey.' She said, 'Well you've got to have one with me.' Well, about 10 o' clock, (laughs) we came out of the dressing room, a hair high, but relaxed and comfortable." Natalie Schafer stated, "She didn't like normal vodka which I think is 80 proof, she liked vodka that's 120 proof, it's stronger, and uh, she would have it in a water glass, and she had it in her hand in between takes, but I thought it was water. And one day it was very hot, and her water glass was right on the table between us, and I said, 'Oh, can I have a sip of your wa- I'm so thirsty,' and I took a sip, and you know it was like straight alcohol straight, straight 120 proof vodka, and I don't know how she could work with it, but she did." Greg Bautzer, on The Hollywood Greats (1978), stated, "The boy was left handed, and she was trying to change him from left handed to right handed. Now I don't know the medical involvements in that kind of attempt, but uh, at least I don't think there was anything wrong with a boy eating left handed. And one time we were sitting at the table at a Sunday family dinner, the children, Christopher, and myself, and she reached over as he was taking his fork (gestures with a swiping motion) hit him" Vincent Sherman stated, "Joan was preparing lunch for the children, and then Christopher came in, and she started balling him out, and the poor kid was sitting there with tears in his eyes, and I said, 'Joan, don't humilliate him in front of people." Natalie Schafer stated, "'She said, 'I'm a marvelous mother.' She said, 'my children obey me, and they must obey me.' And this little boy, I think he was 4 or 5 years old,was in the living room and on the coffee table was a box of chocolates. And she told this story, you know, quite proudly. She said and he took a chocolate and he said 'may I have a candy mama?' And she said, 'yes, you may have one.'So when she wasn't looking he took another , and she caught him, and she said, 'now I want you to eat EVERY CHOCOLATE in that box,' and it was a GREAT BIG BOX of chocolates, and she stood over him til he ate ALL the chocolates in the box, and then threw them up, so she said, 'of course he won't do that again.' and she was very proud of herself." Helen Hayes described Joan Crawford as "cruel." Therefore, there were witnesses to alcoholism and abuse pertaining to Joan Crawford.Show less

@@ChristinaCrawfordLied many oeople were abused by Hollywood. Joan Crawford was one of them. It's sad to me that Christina can't appreciate or even understand the abuse that Joan endured and instead wants to focus on Joan's disease as it effected Christina. Wish she would give up her competition with her mother and make peace with the fact her mother was human and not the statue of perfection she wanted to portray.
