On an SNG downswing again. I find these ones tough to swallow. When in push/fold scenarios, I can deal with shoving with the best hand and losing (to some extent). What crushes my soul is shoving, and getting called by a hand that dominates you. This happens pretty frequently, where the correct play is shoving with your A8s but getting called by A9 and it breaks your spirit. According to holdem manager, I have won 54% of the shoved hands preflop that had a winning percentage chance of 55-80% against the villain. Poker is such a weird game. One day, you're considering quitting your job and doing it for a living. The next day you're pondering suicide and wondering why the world is so cruel and is out to get you.

I lost a huge hand last night and it sucked balls lol. instead of finishing the night with a profit I finished a little down. it's just hard to accept when someone hits a 2 outer on you! on the river too... I made the right call and he got super lucky. oh well it's 7am now so time to sleep and back to the grind tomorrow night :)

The problem is.. how can you tell the difference between a downswing and simply sucking at poker
@colinglen4505
@colinglen4505 8 лет назад
+badpanda84 yes badpanda, I have that same thought buzzing around in my head constantly.the video guy said 'if we're making the right decisions and losing then it's a downswing' but I want to know what are the right decisions...doesn't that depend on who is playing ..I've seen many professionals play very different styles ..and i'm sure the right decisions have changed with the evolution of poker over the past 10 years. sometimes when I hear modern coaches talk about hands it sounds to me as if they have reverted back to pre moneymaker ABC poker..when it comes to variance and downswings I think one essential factor is the most relevant , and that is...are you a lucky or unlucky person... example...everytime I see a supposedly 'sick, brilliant, genius play by a pro' they very often succeed because they miraculously hit just the right card at the right time..... and sometimes I think...what's the point of even attempting to make the right decision if we're so at the mercy of variance.... maybe we should just shove with any two in a pot that opens 2x or 3 x and has been 3 betted. :p

In my opinion you should have a plan what to play (STG/MTT/Cash), how many buy in would you spent, how many time you have to play poker (1 or 2 h or you have all night) before every log in on your pokersite. Also it is very usefull to analize every hand or some interesting hand you play after every session and share with someone. I think that can help you to have smaller downswings. And sorry for my bad english. I hope you understand it :)

I'm 16 right now ive been playing poker for about a year now and have watched hundreds of videos online and even started a poker book. Since im unable to go to the casino i play online a lot on free apps and i play cash game/ tourneys with my friends. Ive noticed im really good with the percentages that involved with counting outs and ive put my friends and even people online on their exact hands. Is their a chance i could be one of the next great poker players if i kept with it?

Recently played six hours of $1/2 where donks were going to showdown with anything. Saw a guy get busted going all in with air in the first 45 minutes. Ace came on river. I'd have folded to that scare card and his all in, but a donk called him with a pair of 5's. Of course, that guy was also felted within an hour. I worked hard on table image, but also just looked for cards. Stayed with my range. Nothing...for six hours! Exhausted, I finally walked away up $62 and I was proud I kept my cool.

I play 1/2 live. I buy-in 100$ 3 days of the week, my bankroll is 1800. I've lost 3 days straight first time in 1 month. I play the lowest stakes so how can I manage bankroll if I dont have enough money for the stakes yet alone be able to buy-in the full amount? Should I just stop playing poker? I don't like online poker but my local card room offers weekly freerolls should I take advantage of those? Any tips and advice would help thanks.

It was Mike Caro that said; "the better you get at poker, the more bad beats you will receive because you are getting the best of it more and more often."
@josereyes1148
@josereyes1148 7 лет назад
I'm starting to question my skill as a player on downswings. the thing is its only bad beats that destroy my role and confidence. this is what happens I put $100 on. over the next 3 or 4 days I can get it to $700-$900. I'm feeling great I'm confident in my ability and then it starts. all of a sudden I cant win a single hand, in anything cash, sngs, mtts, hu, nothing. I will go hours or days with out connecting on a single flop. if I do I am counterfeited or sucked out on for runner runner. or set up coolers heads up. it becomes impossible. then my role goes from $900 to $700. down to $500. maybe back up to $700 down to $550. down to $400 back up to $650 down to $400. down to $300 and repeats until I go broke. I know I'm not practicing any bankroll management but id like to make some money. I am not going to grind for $20 a day. besides my poor bankroll management is this just normal? like every 4 days I can expect to run cold as ice. I feel like I outplay the players but I can never make 2 or 3 grand so am I just a donk?

good video :) after today's Sunday sesh in which i thought i played pretty close to my best, bar the 1st hour or so where i felt slightly tilted, i had yet another fruitless and losing day. this month has been terrible, i play mtt's and have had like zero big scores, some okay ones but nothing great. today my last tournament out with 60 odd left A K< A Q out of 2000 odd. then all day AA < A5s. AA< 8 7o. JJ< A7s. A 10o< A8s. A 8o< K 8o. JJ< 7's. these are all times ko'd from tournies :(

Villain had k j d and other guy had 9 10 off smh. I hit a 3 to add straight draw then missed A Q 2 and all D. Woulda had a super chip lead smg

Guys I really in downswing , i mean as he said i played so perfect and i lost all those 2 weeks i did play them! i can give an example last time i played was : i had TT on position , before an guy wich he is so tight raised like 20$ wich our stakes was 200$ i called the flop is T 9 3 OFF no flush draw, he start by rasing 100$ so i took my time to think and i said i can not call this guy while i knew he had 2 big pairs so if i call him i remain with only 80$ so i re-raise all in ! he called with jacks ! the turn and the river came jacks..i lost 80% like this hands ..now i am on break! but i feel so unlucky i feel like is some all are against me while i go to that club , i feel like i am the only one who are the eyes on him ! pls help ! and thank you for this beatufiull amazing great video , becouse i told my story on all the poker forum and they all moved my thread into closed topic. ! thank you

I raised PF with AK and got called by one guy. Flop comes AK7. The caller shoves allin. I call instantly and he shows J10. Turn comes 8, river comes 9, I lose to a straight and my money evaporates. 2 hands later, he loses all his money - *my money* with a similarly stupid play to someone else. Breaks your heart to lose these hands.

good advice for live play but online play involves coping with a so called RNG that is not pumping out boards that are random. if you don't adjust your play, you will lose. TAG play does not work online.

You are right, for human mind is very difficult to accept loosing after they played correctly, so maybe they will try to change their game so it is not the correct decicion(like i did) You do not need a high IQ to be succesful at poker, you need to have HIGH SELF CONTROL!!!

Cody, it is safe to believe that you know almost nothing about poker and if you want to improve on your game, you need to believe so. Knowing how to calculate percentages on outs is like knowing how to multiple and add at a primary school level. Now, I don't want you to take that as an insult, but anyone can do it if they are given 10 minutes to learn. Don't get ahead of yourself and think you're the best cause you played some cash games with the change in your pocket. You need to know more.

why online poker when you win the next day you play its imbossible to win you loose it all in river no matter what you have even in heads ups thats inpoosible to loose 9/10 ...why this shit happens always and you loose all winnings ??????

This everything is nice.. But when you´re predetermined to loose, you just gonna loose no metter how good you play.. Sure, if I had infinite money and could live 200 years I´d be the best you know, but that´s not the case unfortunately.. Btw I´m not talking in a moment anger, I´m talking about being screwed on everyday basis one year in a row

Ok so getting terribly bad beats even though you read the hand perfect and play the hand awesome.... is a good thing? Certainly don't feel like it. I make the great reads sometimes like i KNOW this guy has THIS hand so I'm calling his all in........ then getting sucked out...... Or flopping the nuts knowing ur opponent only has two pair when he raises all in and then losing to a full house on the river..... It certainly don't make me feel like a good poker player.

u play online with real money? if not then you dont know if ur good. play money is play money, real money is real money. When i started playing poker i thought it takes few years playing as much as I can and studying as much as I can, thats not. I started like 16y playing online underage, built up to something like 2k$ by 17, now im 18 still stuck with 7k$ . It looks way easier than its. as some people say '' poker - hardes way to make easy living''.Hard to master, easy to make when u mastered
