I think Cassiopeia's idea of archetypes can help to explain how ford's and maybe even real people's DID works, as the multiple personalities could just be archetypes with control of the main body

As someone diagnosed with DID the only problem I have with this game's depiction is ford's parts are just caricatures with one trait and nothing more. DID usually involves parts that are a lot more complex and developed than that. A lot of people think DID is just, angry alter, happy alter, trauma alter, ect. But one alter can be all of those just like any human cuz of how much dissociated content is in them that needs to stay repressed just to function in daily life.

I believe it was actually Truman who offered Agent Forescythe the job at the psychonauts, not Ford Cruller. Nonetheless, good video

I can say that DID is real. My last girlfriend had more than one person in her head. They were all her but they also weren't all her. She had pretty severe PTSD from her service in the military. She used to forget where she was and who I was sometimes. She'd wake in the middle of the night and she could only speak French or Russian. That was OK. I could deal with that. But when she would drink that's when the real monster came out. In the end, I have to cut her out of my life.

I'm a psychologist. I have ever treated one person with DID. This was physically a young man that had experienced a lot of trauma early in life and had had a lot fear for his own physical integrity. To a degree this explained their fragmented sense of identity. Their "system" consisted of 3 "thems". The one that carried his original name and sense of identity which was somewhat distrustful and sarcastic; a young naive and trusting boy and an artistically inclined nonbinary/asexual self. I wanted to refer them to someone experienced in DID as I honestly communicated my inexperience on the topic but they were scared of losing their sense of "community self" (if they went to DID specialised therapist). I can honestly say that was my most interesting case, I learnt a lot from them. About which of them talked on what topics and dealt with what issues. About how they protected eachother from their insecurities and fears. About how they dealt with their trauma and the fragmented sense of self. Ultimately they dealt with the primary stuff that they wished to deal with in therapy and could function in a way they were happy with and we decided to stop therapy there. Could it be that they faked it for attention? Perhaps. Though I honestly don't entirely believe that. I believe they believe they are multiple selves, and having experienced all of them and feeling that distinction made me sense this was a real thing for them I treated it a such (not wanting to do more harm than good). But I can't prove it is a real thing, I wouldn't even know how to test that to a satisfactory degree.

I always loved ford’s character as someone living with DID.

I feel like Ford's different personalities are the result of him shattering his own mind in the Astrolathe with the fragments of Ford's mind attempting to become whole again by latching on to things around Ford to form these shallow one note personalities.

It bothered me at first when Ford says "I was young, I made a terrible mistake." Because well... he's 75 years old at the time of Psychonauts 2, and the events he's referencing took place only twenty years ago, so he was well into his fifties at the time. Not really "young" anymore to warrant that sort of reckless mistake, even if you spent a couple of decades experimenting with "pretty far-out stuff" beforehand. Though now... eh. Almost a little satisfying, knowing you can still make a fine mess of things, even when you should be old enough to know better. Might be a good lesson in there. You are never too old to make mistakes, nor to fix them.

Not me quoting cutscenes from the first game as they aired... especially the introduction cutscene after just seeing like 5 seconds of it. I think I might need help I've played the first game too much.

i have osdd/did (not entirely sure which at the moment), but i do like how you spoke about this and we all appreciated it. elenore did especially and sometimes she'll sit in and watch videos with me, and it's hard to find something she really enjoys. we both liked how you treated this too, you took it seriously and pointed out a few of its shortcomings (namely, ford's osdd being played as a joke in the beginning of the game). ellie and i are big fans of psychonauts and angel has a passing interest, but im sure angel will enjoy watching this video later. if he does, i'll ask him to leave a comment to see how he felt on it too :)
