Psychopathy anxiolytic: he grows up in a hostile, dysfunctional, abusive, traumatizing environment or provokes hostility, rejection, and punishment (conduct disorder, ODD).
Love is fickle, ephemeral, untrustworthy, linked to betrayal and abandonment.
Fear a stable, consistent motivator.
Fear requires having power over people and hurting them is a way of establishing hierarchy (sadism).
“Playing dead” strategy.

Why is there no one else trying to explain psychopathy as understandably as Vaknin? All other youtube psychologists/psychiatrists regurgitate what psychopathic behaviour is but no one comes close to giving the why and the how, it just goes to show that there's always a few people in every field who are light years ahead of everyone else, and the distance increases by the minute.

@@jackiesimkin8661 He can explain only narcissism from his experience. He can explain 100% of the core of narcissism but narcissism in general (according to his words) only 3% from his experience. But he uses the biggest data base with narcissists and "victims". He remains an unusual guy. The fact that he explained things from his experience doesn't give any clue about his ability to explain anything. Maybe it is another explanation:: he is a story teller (a sophist that was forced to respect the scientific method). Another explanation: his pathology is very close to the aspengers and he is building a logical graph and trees of classifications. After this process he is following the structure for obtaining a reasonable explanation. Because psychology isn't his primary domain, he translates for him things in a common language. For example "flying monkey" isn't a part of psychological language. He had altered the entire language of psychology and he made a kind of fusion with religion.

My Maternal Aunt is a psychopath (secondary, ASPD with religious OCD)(diagnosed), she loves to abuse everybody around her verbally and sometimes physically. Because of her abuse, my grandmother died of severe depression(diagnosed). My aunt's husband died of overdrinking/cirrhosis without any child She acquired all the property from her husband and parents(after my grandfather's natural death). My mother did not claim any property to save her little sister. But her abuse did not end. She now abuses her neighbors and damages their properties just out of jealousy. Now, she has her eyes on us, and she tries to visit us to gain monetary benefits from us and tries to abuse us as everyone left her. I can feel, in her mind, she tries to achieve my mother's position by eliminating my mother( her elder sister). Very very dangerous person. Can do anything to gain power and property. Do not care about her family members or her loved ones. It's like closed ones are her biggest enemies. From her childhood, she was always jealous of her elder sister. If parents praised her elder daughter, the younger daughter started crying and would get violent on her parents. In my childhood, I watched my grandmother saying to my aunt " Why are you doing this? Am I the only mother to u? Is she not my child too? Why are you so jealous". Because of my aunt, I was not able to visit my grandparents house as a child. She is that much jealous. My aunt did not allow to spend my grandparent's own money when they were terminally ill. She loves money.

For the past month, I've been binge-watching Sam Vaknin's videos and have become convinced that my father, brother, and sister are narcissists. It's quite obvious. However, my brother has exhibited certain behaviors towards me throughout his entire 33 years that have deeply and intensely hurt me. I've been repeatedly traumatized, always wanting to look up to my big brother, seeking his validation, hoping he would recognize me as the amazing little brother I always wanted to be. Instead, I received punishment, pain, suffering, and a complete lack of interest in any of the horrible feelings I experienced. There's been a complete lack of empathy from him, unlike my sister and father, who could still somehow show some degree of empathy, however shallow. My brother has never truly felt sorry for the horrible hurt and pain he caused me throughout my life. But I was always confused. I thought he was a narcissist because I was certain he did not enjoy hurting me. I could never sense that he actually derived pleasure from my pain. I knew that sadism is a telltale sign of a psychopath, which is why I assumed he was a narcissist. But now, after considering Sam Vaknin's explanations, it makes sense. Vaknin explains that the sadism in psychopaths isn't necessarily about enjoying the act of hurting others, but rather seeking to understand themselves better, to gain power, confidence, understanding, and control through the harm they inflict. Viewed in this light, everything my brother has done makes complete sense. I could never understand how he could do these things and not feel bad or sorry, especially as I am extremely sensitive and highly empathetic. But here I am, at the age of 31, finally understanding why the people around me have been so mean. Thanks to Mr. Vaknin's teachings, I now understand the nature of the sickness around me. I am extremely grateful that he makes this highly complex material so easily digestible for someone like me, who merely seeks to understand the toxicity around himself. Thank you very much.

Do psychopaths cry? If so, what does it mean? A person in my life cries when they witness someone being treated terribly in the exact same way they treat me and never shed a tear over. Particularly in programs/movies. It's bizzare!!

Professor you mentioned psychopaths are very much grounded in reality. Unlike the narc. But can psychopaths remain in reality if they are severe drug and alcohol addicted? As that correlation is also high between psychopaths and addictions? I was really wondering about this and how they then remain grounded in reality. Or do they perhaps believe themselves they are still grounded in reality while heavily intoxicated? Thank you

@@samvakninThank you for this very concise and comprehensive explanation of fear as the psychopath's means of reality testing - that one concept is revelatory and applied properly it may explain so much about how hierarchical societal structures and social cliques work. As far as the effects of addiction on reality testing, I can understand why the addiction itself might not undermine reality testing, but the intoxicating effects of the "drug of choice" to alter reality perception in some "positive" way, as a means of "escaping" or dissociating from a painful reality is the primary psychological motivation underlying the addiction in most cases, is it not? How would chemical inebreation NOT affect reality testing, whether in the case of a psychopath or other personality constellation? How do intoxication and addiction differ in their effects and motivations for different personality architectures, including psychopathy? This topic fascinates me, and might make for a very insightful discussion. Thanks for what you do Dr. Vaknin, you earn your "supply", and genuine gratitude and admiration for your knowledge and service, with every video you produce.

In this explanation, it seems that those who are psychopathic in some form who use their psychopathic behaviors to relieve their anxiety- instilling fear, rejecting love- they are not aware they are instilling fear in others to alleviate their anxiety. They may realize their actions are received negatively by other people but they have no lucid thought, “I am going to instill fear in this person to push away love because love is dangerous.” When my ex bf would create a bunch of stress in his life, but things were calm between us (as it happens in cycles of abusive relationships- there’s stretches of relative calm), he would out of nowhere induce an argument and accuse me of being all sorts of negative things, completely defensive of his actions when I would tell him he was being harsh and pushing me away for no reason. In those conversations it was like I wasn’t even there. He had to find a way to relieve his anxiety and instead of drinking a bottle of whiskey he would try to use aggressively withholding love from me and antagonizing me as a way to make me fear him. He had to exert power over me to return to a baseline state of neutrality in himself. But vehemently denying he was being hurtful. It was like he was in a trance, like how someone behaves when they are blackout drunk. He was Don Quixote fighting the windmills. He completely lacked the ability to see himself clearly.
