WHY AM I DONG IT THIS WAY?
A lot of channels do Patreon or RU-vid Memberships at a cost to the viewer which puts a lot of content behind a paywall, meaning it is pay to view, and a large amount of the subscriber base miss out on a lot of content, or the quality of the content available to non members reduces. I don’t like this approach.
My way - EVERY one will get to see ALL content. If you aren’t in a position to donate - you still get to see ALL content and your current experience of the channel will NOT change at all. If you do want to support the channel then you get to decide how I prioritise the videos.

WHO AM I?
I am a BABCP accredited cognitive and behavioural psychotherapist living in the south of England. I specialise in working with people who have experienced trauma to help them move forward with their lives.
On this RU-vid channel I try and make information more accessible by discussing psychological concepts through reacting to popular media.

Living in the US, it's hard to live with C-PTSD. Just because it's not in the DSM-V doesn't mean that it isn't real.

So a little context on the band. Citizen Soldier was founded in 2016. Just before that lead singer Jake Segura attempted to take his own life. Obviously he survived and while in the psych ward afterwards he wound up writing the lyrics for a song titled Let it Burn on the back of a napkin. That song would go on to be the first single for Citizen Soldier. Jake himself is now a licensed and practicing clinical therapist who puts the kind of thoughts he experienced both himself and from seeing peoples struggles into the bands music. As an added note one of my favorite things about Jake is after concerts he will often hang around for hours just so he can greet and talk to people who came to the concerts and who have been touched by the bands music.

Every single citizen soldier hits home for me especially bedroom ceiling. on their youtube comment section you see people feeling similar and it makes you feel less isolated, messed up and alone. Music is definitely a lifeline.

Bedroom Ceiling is so relatable to so many people! I've personally gotten more into their heavier songs but they have such amazing lyrics and Bedroom Ceiling is a great example of it!

Yay! Thank you for your reactions. This is my favorite band. They are all about mental health in their songs. Jake (the lead singer) had struggles and came close to death but thankfully survived and later became a counselor and formed this band to combat stigmatization around mental health. He writes stories from people he has seen and also his own. I believe this song is a song he wrote about what he would say to his younger self when he was at his darkest place in that hospital after his attempt.

@@TherapistReactsOfficial No worries. I've been hooked since I found them. I thought it was a real message of hope the fact that the lead singer went through things himself and can be here today to testify it is possible to survive and get better. Definitely check out more when you can. They have so many songs but I'd recommend checking out Tattoos (which I think I requested through the form?) or Let It Burn which is an older but good one too. These both are about Jake's personal story and his struggles. Let It Burn he actually wrote on a napkin in the psychiatric hospital. You can also do whichever you find interesting of their songs, they all have something to say about mental health and people's struggle. Anyways I have not commented here much but I do love watching your reactions from Ren to NF to everyone else really. Keep it going!

What a gifted artist who has taken much pain on his journey and used it to speak and help others. It broke my heart. I thought about people I've known and worked with in other situations; partial list would include a student with CP with whom I worked in elementary school who endured bullying through HS but maintained some close friendships that got him through, and as an adult is now a friend, people with a chronic illness whose friends and family don't understand, someone overcoming childhood brain cancer and being patient (semi😂) with her brain as it learned to reroute impulses, invisible people. Sorry for the tangent, and I certainly am not discounting mental health struggles, just saying that this song can speak to so many.

Great reaction and discussion. Would love to see you do more of their songs!! Love this band and this artist's story: from trying to take his life, to building a band, becoming a counselor, and vontinuing to write songs about the struggles he and other face.

I don’t think he is talking about stopping medication. Throwing up your medication on the bathroom floor refers to overdose. Jake started Citizen Soldier by writing “Let It Burn” from the psych ward after a failed suicide attempt.

Ah yes, I took it to mean similar to the marks on the skin comment - i'm going to do things (such as stop taking medication thats 'helping' me so people see how bad I am with out it and that I am really struggling without these meds. But your way makes more sense. Thats the thing with reactions there is so much going on to think about!

You need to react to let it burn and then limit it paints and explains everything, back to the beginning to when we first wrote let it burn, thanks for the reaction for the awesome video

I see people told the back story of the band but would you like to hear it in song? Gun shot lullaby "i wanted to praise love and all it's glory, but now i write it in sader stories" Let it burn, like others said is the first song they've made and the situation behind it. And lastly limit, how are they doing now after all their accomplishments? Limit has a guest star called low spirit. If your interested in his story mind of mine, mama, anymore, and most importantly wild things And while im ranting to the void, carry on by ironmouse. I think you'll love to react to it, but I'll only drop a hint to why. The RU-vid video for that song is on the IDF's official channel.

The headman of citizen soldier attempted suicide a while back and in a psych ward wrote let it byrn their first song over the years they gained popularity this song is about that or im pretty sure it is cause it says hey jake are you okay

This is such a sad and yet powerful track. I feel so sorry for whoever this track was written about or those who get to this stage without genuine help. Not seeing people is a real problem. Taking time to really understand a persons problems and to listen, is something I think the health system in particular in the UK doesn’t do well enough or spend enough time, money or resources on getting better at doing. The health system spends so little time with each person needing help and we know all too often the solution is to ‘place hold’ by doling out pills or tiny amounts of talking therapy which are to brief to really deal with the problems effectively. We all know if more was done in the early stages to really help before things get so bad for people, then perhaps fewer people would end up in this position. However, mental health services have always been considered secondary to physical health, and I doubt this will change in my lifetime. At least I am not very optimistic about that purely based upon how the NHS as a whole is suffering its own health crisis and lack support. If no one even listens when the system itself is in crisis, or indeed tries to solve its current problems; then how do we expect individuals needing help to be listened to?! Individual patients stand even less chance overall, right!

I'm pretty sure I saw a comment somewhere saying that this song is what Jake would say to himself if he could go back. Not sure if it's true but it's still a good message
